Along with Robbo, Hughes was my hero as a kid. I used to spend hours trying to copy his volleys. What a player he was. People (rightly) talk about Berba’s first touch but no-one could kill a ball like Sparky. Whether it be with his chest, thigh or foot… it just stuck!

I absolutely loved him. If he cooled down with his elbows he would be the perfect striker these days with two wide forwards either side. His link-up play was so bloody good

A scorer of great goals. Always showed up in the big games. An absolute warrior and a baller to boot. My original united hero.
