This follows an incident... over the past weekend in which community members who attended the funeral fell ill after consuming food, with symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea. According to the Premier 123 foodborne disease cases presented across four health facilities. So far, 25 admissions and three deaths have been reported. Emergency services and traffic officials are currently attending to the incident, with early reports indicating possible injuries and fatalities. Motorists travelling from Gauteng towards Polokwane are advised to off-ramp at Nyl Plaza and use the R101 route into the city. Those travelling southbound from Polokwane should also use the R101 towards Mokopane and rejoin the N1 at Nyl Plaza. The Premier has confirmed that there has been fatalities in the accident. The cholera test has been found positive in Jajpur, not in other districts yet," said Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department of the state, Aswathy S, on the cholera and diarrhoea outbreak in the state. She said, "Yesterday, we had an inpatient new admission of approximately 300. We have requested the hospitals not to discharge even minor cases for at least 24 hours... Today, the number of inpatients has not gone up. The new admission happens to be almost the same as yesterday. The good thing is that we see only mild cases, which means people are not waiting for it to become serious... So far, we have information about 10 cases that have been audited. Two more cases are being audited. Three reported deaths were found not to be caused by the outbreak... We are remaining vigilant. Sporadic diarrheal cases have always happened during monsoon all over the state... However, we have already ensured preventive measures to maintain health and hygiene, and deployed more officers to Puri for checking water sources." (18.6)

In the past month, World Health Organization (WHO), Africa CDC and partners have supported Ministère de la Santé RDC to increase the number of Ebola Treatment Centres and lab and surveillance capacities, to train more health workers on clinical care and infection prevention and control, and to improve the understanding and involvement of communities. But much more is needed: more treatment centres, more trained health and care workers, more testing, more teams from within communities supporting communities. We need sustained and safe access to reach all affected people. We need continued solidarity from international community to end this outbreak. And ultimately, we need peace for the people of DRC.

A man in his 30s has stabbed his girlfriend (24), to death, therefore took his own life after his girlfriend told him she is in a relationship with an educator from Mogolo Secondary School. The incident occured at Ga-Kabu, Ga-Mashamothane, Limpopo. It is said after killing his girlfriend, the man dumped her body at a rented residence of the educator. Thereafter, he went live on Facebook to detail how he killed his girlfriend at night over the weekend. Afterwards, he drove his black Audi to a nearby river where he wrote a note saying "Call Thomas. Take Me Home - along with contact number", and after he hanged himself on a tree. Reports alleges the man was working at a local mining company of Platinum City in Burgersfort and is from Tzaneen. Police and forensic took the deceased.

The FDA just announced there’s another cyclospora outbreak. Seventy-two people have been linked to the new outbreak, according to an update posted on the agency’s website Wednesday. While the agency has launched traceback investigations, it has not provided any information on the source of the parasite or the outbreak location. Messaging around these outbreaks has been confusing and health experts say that’s in part because of the difficulty in tracking the parasite, which also can’t be reproduced in a lab. The previous major outbreak, focused in Michigan and four surrounding states, has been linked to shredded iceberg lettuce sold by Taylor Farms and grown in central Mexico, though that’s not been confirmed through lab testing. On Friday, the Washington Post reported that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has linked this outbreak to four additional states — Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania — bringing the total to nine. Meanwhile, individual cases of cyclosporiasis have now been reported in 41 states. While we wait for more information, these are still good food safety tips to follow: Wash hands with soap and water before handling food. Many of them have now left, and those remaining are extremely fearful for their safety and planning to leave a place they had turned to for refuge and protection. Hospitals, ambulances, health workers, and people seeking care must be protected, at all times, under international humanitarian law. Today’s bombardments are unconscionable. Gaza’s health system is already on its knees, with health and aid workers continuously stymied in their efforts to save lives due to the hostilities. I join international calls for an immediate ceasefire, including urgent action to ensure the accelerated and unimpeded flow of food, medical supplies, water and other essential items to millions of civilians forced to live in unspeakable conditions of hunger, disease spread, and lack of hygiene and sanitation. Gazans are still receiving only a fraction of the supplies they had access to before the war, just as only a fraction of Gazans in need of medical evacuation are being evacuated. This is unacceptable in light of the dire humanitarian catastrophe which has unfolded over three months. Man Arrested After Knife Incident, Bradford College A man has been arrested following an incident near Bradford College this morning. Reports were received from 9.21am of a man armed with what appeared to be a knife on Great Horton Road. He was detained by college security staff and arrested by attending officers. A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two members of the public and assaulting two emergency workers. He was also arrested for a racially-aggravated public order offence and causing damage to a police vehicle. The two injured members of the public have been taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. A small gardening tool was seized by police at the scene. Detective Inspector Ailis Coates said: “We know that this incident will understandably cause some concern in the community. I would like to reassure people that the suspect was quickly detained by security staff and arrested by the police. “We understand that this incident has been witnessed by a large number of people and that some people may have filmed bits of it. We would ask them to please share this footage with the police as it could greatly assist us in our ongoing investigation. “We currently have a police scene in place on Great Horton Road and people can expect to see our neighbourhood policing colleagues in the area providing reassurance to college staff and students and the wider community.”
