In the late 1980s my science teacher, also the head of the A/V department showed me this film (I was an A/V volunteer why I have so much of this stuff). This is The City from 1939 and it is a very powerful film. It blew me away. And changed me. I convinced him to show it to all his classes and it was loved. I love everything about this movie. But especially the part where it said we could do better. This movie was shown at The World’s Fair and influenced many. However Cronyism and corruption took our good senses and responses it to tribalism that nullified the will of those that saw this film and saw a healthy path. Take the 45 minutes and know this was 1939.

Scarface is widely regarded as a classic today, but when it first came out, the reception was brutal. Steven Bauer, who played Manny, says it was so painful that for years he and Al Pacino barely even spoke about the film. He explains… “Scarface is great to be a part of now. For years, it was dismal - like everybody associated with Scarface was a leper - people got very wimpy about Scarface really quickly. As soon as the reviews were out… Our peers came to see the movie in the premiere, right? There were two premieres, one in New York, one in LA, and people came to see it and they were like, ‘Wow, what a movie…. The next day, the reviews are out, and all the papers — this is before the internet, okay? - so you get just the conventional news media outlets - and 90% of them gave Scarface a horrible review. Like horrible, really, really insulting, injurious stuff. Personal attacks on Pacino and Brian De Palma, the director, and on Oliver, the writer... It was really, really mean because the country was going through a politically correct sort of thing - they were like, "This is like a new wave of violence in the movies, oh!" It’s nice because when I see Al - we can finally talk about it, because...for years, we couldn’t even talk about it. We’d be like, “Oh yeah, Scarface, yeah, yeah...” It was so sad! Because the movie was so great! According to Jack Lemmon, the first sneak preview of "Some Like it Hot" (1959) had a bad reaction with many audience walkouts. A lot of studio personnel and agents offered advice to Billy Wilder on what scenes to reshoot, add and cut. Lemmon asked Wilder what he was going to do. Wilder responded: "Why, nothing. This is a very funny movie and I believe in it just as it is. Maybe this is the wrong neighborhood in which to have shown it. At any rate, I don't panic over one preview. It's a hell of a movie." Another thing that The LEGO Movie (2014) has that the Mario Movies (particularly Galaxy Movie) DON’T have is a scene like this that really impacts just how amazing and special The LEGO Movie (2014) really is whereas the Mario Movies (mostly Galaxy Movie) don’t have a single scene like this that makes it so special themselves or convinces you that they are truly “amazing movies” when they really aren’t, not only is this scene so beautifully well written but there are also no unnecessary interruptions or unnecessary humor placements in this scene and it actually takes the time to breathe and slow down a bit and gives you a heartwarming message to both kids and adults, the fact that Mario fans (especially Galaxy Movie fans) keeps giving the bullshit excuse of “it’s a kids movie” makes zero sense and ya’ll simply refused to accept the many issues that Galaxy Movie has and yet The LEGO Movie is also a “kids movie” and yet it wasn’t afraid to treat their audiences like they are real people and not dumb at all, Phil, Chris and the rest of the crew treated it like it was a REAL movie, they didn’t see it as a cash grab like what the Mario Movies would later do, they took the opportunity to make a movie about LEGOs and actually make something worth it for both critics and audiences, the Mario Movies treats their audience like they don’t care about storytelling or character development and keeps gives you a lot of random action scenes or crazy stuff happening every few minutes that it gets so repetitive and boring so fast that it doesn’t challenge the audiences or even kids, The LEGO Movie (2014) is the complete opposite and I wish the Mario Movies were like this movie because fans and audiences truly deserve better than just fan service or random actions scenes happening every few minutes, they simply failed as movies and there’s a reason why there is rarely any hate for The LEGO Movie (2014) because it’s truly a masterpiece that cares about its audiences and it shows that the whole “it’s a kids movie” is really a stupid excuse.

James Garner was initially warned that comedy westerns won't make any money, but he went ahead and made "Support Your Local Sheriff!" (1969) with a shoestring budget of $750,000. It was considered a "bomb" as it didn't do much business in the first week of its release. United Artists wanted to shelve it. But James Garner said to them, “You put up $10,000 and l will put up $10,000, and we'll run it in one theater.” The result was impressive. it ran on Wilshire Boulevard for one month. The movie gained audience through "word of mouth" within the end of the week. Then they re-released it and the movie did well everywhere. It was the 20th most popular movie in the US box office in 1969.

John Carpenter on how Howard Hawks's "Rio Bravo" (1959) inspired him to become a filmmaker: "As I got older I began to see that certain directors did certain things. One of the earliest examples of this was Roger Corman. I started going to see these exciting, fast, kind of cheesy but really fun monster movies, and there was one name that kept coming up on the screen: Roger Corman. 'It Conquered the World' (1956), 'Not of This Earth' (1957), 'Attack of the Crab Monsters' (1957), 'The Undead' (1957)... But | really understood for the first time what a director did when I saw 'Rio Bravo' in 1959. There was something about that movie that was like home and I can't really explain it. It was held over in Bowling Green for three or four weeks in a row because people kept coming to see it. I abandoned to see what was new in the other movie house in town to see this movie every weekend again and again because there was something in it that was different from the other westerns I had seen. I had certainly seen John Wayne before. He had become a part of my growing-up experience. He was the action guy, the cowboy. He was the guy in 'Flying Tigers' (1942) who was flying the airplanes. So what was so different about that movie? Then I became aware of this credit: “Howard Hawks’ Rio Bravo.” I looked at the poster and I said to myself, “Who is this guy? He didn't write the movie and he wasn't starring in it so why is his name up here? And why is he last in the credits?” All these things started to occur to me, but it was the emotional impact of the film that got me to start using my brain. This guy claims Larry Silverstein is both the dumbest and luckiest businessman. - 6 weeks before 9/11 he gets the lease for the Twin Towers. They only require $1.5 billion in insurance but he takes out over $3.5 billion of insurance. - He never misses work and just happened to miss that day. You all think this is a coincidence or do you think he knew something?
