During Nyerere's time, members of the armed anti-colonial freedom forces flocked to Tanzania to establish a base... for their fight against White supremacist rule. This included the Mozambican Liberation Front (FRELIMO), the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU), the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) - in what is now Namibia - and the African National Congress of South Africa. Wow, the president of Dudula is as daft as a brick. I cannot imagine that someone who wants to be a politician, enter politics, and lead people in South Africa does not know what the Frontline States means or what they stood for. This is exactly why I always encourage young people to read — and to read widely, with depth — not just to chant empty slogans rooted in ignorance. For those who did not know, the Frontline States were a coalition of southern African countries that supported the liberation movements fighting against colonialism and apartheid in the region. They were a precursor to what later became SADC, and their solidarity played a crucial role in the liberation of countries such as Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, and South Africa itself. The Frontline States were Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, and later Zimbabwe. These nations formed a regional alliance during the 1970s and 1980s to coordinate political, diplomatic, and military support for liberation movements fighting colonial and apartheid regimes in southern Africa.

Remembering Zimbabwe’s Joshua Nkomo, who died of prostate cancer on 1 July 1999 at the age of 82 at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare. Joshua Nkomo was a towering African political figure in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, revered as a father of the nation and a symbol of unity and resilience. A trained social worker and nationalist leader, he co-founded the Southern Rhodesia African National Congress in the 1950s and later led the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), fighting for the emancipation of black Zimbabweans from colonial rule. Nicknamed “Father Zimbabwe,” Nkomo was known for his calm demeanour, inclusive vision, and unwavering commitment to justice. He was deeply respected for his attempts to promote peace during turbulent times, even when he was betrayed or marginalised. May his soul rest in peace!

He was merely doing his job as a Truck driver, transporting goods around the Southern African region, using her specialist skills. Last week he became the latest victim of Afrophobic attacks in South Africa, shot dead in cold blood in broad day light. Today he was laid to rest in his home town in Zambia. The same nation that contributed immensley in resource and blood to the liberation of South Africa.

It was also the first time they were captured by a non-state armed group. South Africa has been in the DRC longer than the US was in Afghanistan. This expert notes that the South African government may have concluded there was nothing more it could do in the DRC, especially after the January 2025 rout. That is true. Sadly, while South Africans are reflecting on the condition of their army, which is a legitimate concern, they have refused to reflect on the purpose of their mission in the DRC. Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki would never have backed a regime bent on exterminating part of its population. They would never have supported a government that recruits the FDLR, a group formed by the remnants of genocidal forces. Never. The same is true for Nyerere. There was a time when South Africa (and Tanzania) offered the world a moral compass. That South Africa no longer exists. It has been replaced by corrupt, populist politicians who have forgotten their own liberation struggle and chosen instead to embrace an apartheid-like, genocidal regime in Kinshasa. 'U.S. EMPIRE IN DECLINE, CHOOSE AFRICA' We hear very often that only two options are on the table for Black voters in the United States: Kamala Harris or Donald Trump. But could other choices be available? In this exclusive interview with African Stream, Onyesonwu Chatoyer, a member of All-African People's Revolutionary Party (AAPRP)international (All-African People's Revolutionary Party (AAPRP) on X) and Hood Communist☭🇿🇦, raises the possibility of organising for collective worldwide African liberation as a viable option beyond voting for Democratic or Republican candidates that ultimately work against the interests of the entire African diaspora, with drone strikes, police violence and Congolese child slavery being a few examples. What Chatoyer lays out is in the tradition of many revolutionary Pan-Africanists, such as Malcolm X (1925-65) and Kwame Ture (1941-98), who worked tirelessly to organise African communities in the United States. Pan-Africanists advocate for a strong, unified African continent to protect Africans worldwide. 'I'm not a Democrat. I'm not a Republican. And, I don't even consider myself an American,' said Malcolm X in his famous 'The Ballot or the Bullet' (3 April 1964) speech. At another moment, he said, 'Our hope is in a strong Africa. When Africa is strong, our position in America will be one of respect.' A unified Pan-African state could issue sanctions or cut off trade with any country that harms the African diaspora. Malcolm X once explained this using the example of China, which the United States has made an enemy, allowing Sinophobic racism to rise in the US. 'U.S. EMPIRE IN DECLINE, CHOOSE AFRICA' We hear very often that only two options are on the table for Black voters in the United States: Kamala Harris or Donald Trump. But could other choices be available? In this exclusive interview with African Stream, Onyesonwu Chatoyer, a member of All-African People's Revolutionary Party (AAPRP)international (All-African People's Revolutionary Party (AAPRP) on X) and Hood Communist☭🇿🇦, raises the possibility of organising for collective worldwide African liberation as a viable option beyond voting for Democratic or Republican candidates that ultimately work against the interests of the entire African diaspora, with drone strikes, police violence and Congolese child slavery being a few examples. What Chatoyer lays out is in the tradition of many revolutionary Pan-Africanists, such as Malcolm X (1925-65) and Kwame Ture (1941-98), who worked tirelessly to organise African communities in the United States. Pan-Africanists advocate for a strong, unified African continent to protect Africans worldwide. 'I'm not a Democrat. I'm not a Republican. And, I don't even consider myself an American,' said Malcolm X in his famous 'The Ballot or the Bullet' (3 April 1964) speech. At another moment, he said, 'Our hope is in a strong Africa. When Africa is strong, our position in America will be one of respect.' A unified Pan-African state could issue sanctions or cut off trade with any country that harms the African diaspora. Malcolm X once explained this using the example of China, which the United States has made an enemy, allowing Sinophobic racism to rise in the US.
