Member of Parliament, Fawziya Haji Adan “I ask the leadership of the country why they’re hellbent on the downfall of their country Somalia & Somalinimo. In 2016, I was discouraged from the seat of the African Union’s Chairperson by President Hassan Sheikh who called for my withdrawal from the race. His choice of chairperson went on to lose. Today 8 years later in 2024, I am told again to withdraw in a place of another preferred candidate from a different foreign country. If I do this, the seat will not return to the region for another 40 years, so I will not step down, I still cannot figure out why Somalia’s leadership is working against me- a Somali national!”

Madobe Is Not the Issue — Somalia’s Federal Election Is In 2019, Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed Islam was ELECTED, and then-opposition leader and former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud risked his life to attend the inauguration in Kismaayo — the footage of his warm congratulations still exists and is attached. Equally, Hamza Abdi Barre — who now protests Madobe’s November 2024 re-election — was then the Chairman of Jubaland’s Independent Electoral Commission and personally certified that very process. The attached clip speaks for itself. Today, after Madobe followed the same state-led process used by all Federal Member States, those who once endorsed him now cry “improper election,” while President Hassan Sheikh has himself extended the mandates of leaders of Galmudug, Southwest state, and Hirshabelle — powers granted by neither federal nor state constitutions. These regions have operated under expired terms since as far back as 2022, yet it is Jubaland that is treated as the national emergency. The contradiction is staggering. Barely seven months remain of the federal mandate, with parliamentary elections due in February and March — the real clock is ticking. Somalia has no time for manufactured outrage or convenient scapegoats. Madobe’s election — held a year ago — is not the national debate; the urgent task is agreeing on a federal electoral model. Hassan Sheikh refused to meet with the people of Awdal and told them that he had referred Awdal's request for recognition as a federal member state to Djibouti. Imagine that. A leader outsourcing the future of part of his own country to another state. What an embarrassment! 📍The people of Awdal brought him a detailed file warning of serious threats to Somalia's sovereignty. They warned that the Ethiopia MoU would not be the end of it and that other foreign actors, including Israel, could follow. Because Hassan Sheikh Mohamud continues to remain in office beyond the expiration of his constitutional mandate, Somalia is facing an unprecedented level of political uncertainty. His refusal to initiate an inclusive electoral process has left Somalia’s international partners with more questions than answers about the country’s political direction and future. This uncertainty is placing at risk the partnerships that have been fundamental to Somalia’s security, state-building, and democratic development. The trust and confidence of our international partners, built over many years and at great cost, cannot be taken for granted. Without constitutional legitimacy, Somalia’s ability to engage credibly with the international community, honor its commitments, and sustain the cooperation that underpins its stability is being seriously undermined. What Will The International Community Say Now? When former President Mohamed Farmaajo engineered parliament’s extension of his term in 2021, he argued that he had not personally extended his mandate — that parliament had given him the extension. Last night, Prez Hassan Sheikh Mohamud made a similar argument in the attached video, stating that parliament, through the constitutional changes he spearheaded, had given themselves — as well as him and his cabinet — an additional year in office. This is despite his earlier public position that his mandate was four years and that even if the constitution were amended to provide for five-year terms, such changes would not apply to him, parliament, or his cabinet, but only to the next government. Below are selected quotes showing how the international community reacted in April 2021 when Farmaajo’s term extension was announced. Ms. Catriona Laing comment was inappropriate against the people of Somalia who are defending their homeland, and she chastised the president of the country, as she publicly stated, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud , please refrain from becoming emotional. This is the third time that she has violated the nation of Somalia at the Security Council. Ms. Catriona Liang, the United Nations envoy for Somalia, has committed this infraction every time she serves the UNSC. The fact that the unlawful agreement between Ethiopia and the separatist tribal enclave administration is still justified by the fact that, as Ms. Catriona states, it is unclear what is included in it. She also reported that it is an economic deal, and it has left out the remark from Ethiopia that, without disguise, they would recognize a breakaway tribal enclave or that it would research for future recognition. FGS MP Abdullahi Hashi Abib Leaks Secret Audio of President Hassan Sheikh & Speaker Aadan Madoobe Discussing the Whosale Auction of Somalia's Oil and Gas to Turkey MP Cabdullahi Xaashi Abiib, renowned for exposing prevalent corruption in President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's administration, has previously warned that Somalia’s oil and gas resources were being handed almost for free over to Turkey. Now, MP Abiib just released a leaked phone conversation between the President and Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, in which they strategize how to push the controversial Turkish oil and gas deal through Parliament without any debate. The agreement grants Turkey 90% of Somalia’s oil revenue, leaving Somalia with only 10% and perhaps even less. As we have previously reported, the 10% share would be further reduced by deductions for Turkish security expenses and Somalia’s own oil consumption. Additionally, the deal allegedly stipulates that all oil revenue will be deposited in foreign banks, bypassing Somali financial institutions entirely—except for whatever portion is designated for Somalia to pay necessary expenses. In other words, Somalia isn't in control of its own resources and is being exploited and treated as a Turkish colonial outpost. In a letter to the Somali public and FGS parliamentarians, MP MP Dr Abdillahi Hashi Abib writes, "Despite repeated claims by the President and Speaker that Parliament was consulted, and that Somalia’s national interest was safeguarded in the agreement, I have come into possession of direct audio evidence that indisputably contradicts their public and official statements." MP Abib continues, "This audio recording captures a private phone conversation between the President and the Speaker - and was shared with me last week by a high-level senior official from Villa Somalia who was present in the room during the call. If you're a citizen of another country, whether you were born there, or whether you naturalize into it, and you refuse to give up that citizenship, you should not be able to serve in Congress" "Ilhan Omar was a citizen of Somalia. She was born in Somalia. She came to the United States. She has publicly said that she puts the interest of Somalia over the interests of the United States. So we can assume that she's a dual citizen, but we don't know that for sure, but she was a citizen of Somalia at some point, if she's not today, and the question is, if you're a citizen of Somalia and the United States, you can't swear an oath to protect and defend two countries. One of them has to come first. You can't serve two masters. So my bill is very simple. You can only be a citizen of the United States if you want to serve in Congress."
