The referee of the World Cup match was saved by pickle brine. The match between the USA and Australia national teams was briefly stopped due to health problems of the head referee, Felix Zwayer. In the closing stages of the game, the referee collapsed on the pitch due to a severe muscle cramp. Players from both teams helped him relieve the spasm, and then a female referee ran onto the field and brought pickle brine. After the “emergency treatment,” the referee was able to continue the match.
