UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been telling NATO, telling Trump, and telling the British people that the UK is finally getting serious about defense. 2.6% of GDP by 2027. 3.5% by 2035. Born again on defense... spending after decades of freeloading on American security guarantees. Senator John Kennedy read the actual report. The cash is backloaded. Starmer isn't planning to spend the real money until the 2030s — four years from now, minimum. By which point, as Kennedy notes, Starmer will almost certainly no longer be Prime Minister. He's making a promise he won't have to keep, on a timeline he won't be around to answer for. Then there's the inflation problem. Defense production costs are rising sharply right now because so many countries are simultaneously trying to rearm. When you factor in defense inflation between now and when Starmer actually plans to start spending, Kennedy's math shows the UK would end up delivering roughly £24 billion — about $32 billion — less in real defense capability than the headline numbers suggest. 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥. His numbers guys knew about it. This wasn't an oversight. This is the same UK that just told Trump it couldn't send ships to help secure the Strait of Hormuz — the waterway that carries 20% of the world's oil — because it needed to consult its team first. 🇬🇧🇺🇦In a summit with Zelensky and other now-panicking European vassal states, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer says the summit’s goal is to outline a plan to stop the fighting in Ukraine and then discuss that with the United States. Pure delusion. Starmer and these other European vassals have now deluded themselves into thinking that after screaming to keep the proxy war going for as long as it takes, that Donald Trump actually would give a moment of serious thought to what Europe has to say about the Ukraine proxy war. This was always Washington’s proxy war, the UK and Europe were simply the attack dogs on the US’ leash. The end of the proxy war and the terms of its conclusion will be decided by Washington and Moscow. Vladimir Putin doesn’t trust the UK’s and Europe’s leaders as far as he can throw them, so he will ignore any of their maximalist proposals. Donald Trump will be confused that the US’ loyal vassals are daring to try and formulate a plan of their own, and actually think it will get anywhere. The ‘plan’ that these band of clowns will reach will be given to Donald Trump on a silver platter, tied up in a beautiful ribbon. Trump will take this ‘plan’ and unceremoniously throw it in the bin and continue the only serious diplomacy going on right now, which is between Washington and Moscow. In summary, the US’ approach will be to look at this plan, toss it aside, say ‘anyway’, and continue direct negotiations with Putin. This summit is nothing but political performative pantomime for domestic political consumption in the Western European rump of Eurasia. Sir Keir Starmer is trying to be the ‘great consequential statesman’ he thinks he is, European leaders are trying to look like they’re actually doing something of consequence while the world looks at them as vassals, and Zelensky is trying to sell a false reality to Ukrainians that it doesn’t matter if the Trump administration detests him, at least the irrelevant European leaders are on his side. My appearance on the British Brainwashing Corporation's Question Time in 2018, where I sat next to future UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and challenged him on this belief that we should uncritically believe what Downing Street says regarding foreign policy. Sir Keir Starmer, now somehow even more deeply despised by the British public for his appointment of Peter Mandelson as Ambassador to the United States, despite knowing of his close relationship with pedophile sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. He has turned the UK into even more of a vassal state of Washington, loyally followed the same neoliberal economics which continue pushing the UK into terminal economic decline, armed and backed the Gaza genocide, and now faces perhaps the end of his leadership. If this is indeed the end, or the beginning of the end of the charisma vacuum, then it has been a tenure of nothing but failures, hypocrisy, destruction abroad, and abhorrent lies to the public...but then again, none of this is unusual for a British Prime Minister in the 21st Century.

Treating NATO partners like adversaries and now he wants those same people to send their frigates into the Strait of Hormuz alongside us. Germany's Defense Minister Pistorius said it most plainly. What does Trump expect a handful of European frigates to do in the Strait of Hormuz that the most powerful Navy in the history of the world cannot do on its own? Answer that question. I'll wait. Keir Starmer said this was never going to be a NATO mission and I think the Europeans are making exactly the right call by staying out. Because here's the escalation scenario that terrifies me. Europeans get pulled in. China feels compelled to respond. Russia sees an opening. And suddenly a regional conflict becomes something that nobody alive has ever seen before. World War III. Now someone needs to find the exit ramp before ego and improvisation make that conversation impossible.

The Labour Party do not seem to have grasped that, by the Prime Minister’s own admission, the United Kingdom is now entitled to take defensive action against the launch of missiles and drones aimed at us. We are, in effect, in precisely the same position as the United States. The Prime Minister said his reason originally for not allowing Fairford or even Diego Garcia to be used, was that would constitute for him a breach of international law, because it would be us condoning an offensive operation. However, he's changed his position on this because of attacks on allies and on a UK base, and that means now that he is authorising the Americans to act in defence by taking out those kind of missiles that would attack us. Surely that now means that the UK Armed Forces, in this case the Royal Air Force, could now be used by the Government in no breach of international law in a defensive action to take out those missiles as well.
