𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗔 “𝗝𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧” 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦 This is Courtney Bonneau, an American photographer who travels through Lebanon presenting herself as an independent reporter. I challenged her video from Aitaroun yesterday because it showed the devastation while erasing every event that led to it. Today she films from Mansouri.... I did not insult her. I simply asked her to acknowledge the other half of the story: • Hezbollah opened fire on Israel on 8 October 2023, one day after Hamas’s attack, not because Lebanon had been attacked, but to support an Iranian-led regional war. • For four decades, Hezbollah has violated and usurped Lebanese sovereignty by maintaining an Iranian-funded military state within the Lebanese state and claiming the power to decide war and peace on behalf of an entire country. • Its independent arsenal and military command have operated outside the exclusive authority of the Lebanese state and in defiance of the Taif Agreement and UN Security Council resolutions 1559, 1680 and 1701. • The November 2024 cessation-of-hostilities arrangement required Lebanon to prevent Hezbollah and other armed groups from attacking Israel and reaffirmed the full implementation of Resolution 1701. • Hezbollah nevertheless resumed its attacks on Israel on 2 March 2026 following Ali Khamenei’s killing, once again dragging Lebanon into an Iranian regional confrontation in which the Lebanese people had no say. • In response, the Lebanese Cabinet formally prohibited all Hezbollah military and security activities, declared them outside the law, ordered Hezbollah to surrender its weapons and restricted its permitted role to political activity within Lebanon’s constitutional framework. Hezbollah’s armed structure is therefore no longer merely defying international resolutions. It is openly defying an explicit decision of the sovereign Lebanese government. None of this excuses unlawful conduct by Israel or diminishes the suffering of Lebanese civilians. But a reporter who displays the consequences while deliberately concealing the decisions and military infrastructure that precipitated them is not providing context. She is manufacturing a narrative. How did this self-described journalist answer a Lebanese citizen from the South whose home has repeatedly been destroyed? “𝗙𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.” She blocked me. She did not refute one fact. She did not explain why Hezbollah had the right to initiate hostilities from Lebanese territory. She did not acknowledge Iran’s control over Lebanon’s decisions of war and peace. Instead, she reduced herself from a purported journalist to a propagandist for an Iranian militia that has violated and usurped Lebanese sovereignty for four decades, and whose military and security activities the Lebanese government has now formally outlawed. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 is that the world is now waking up to the scale of the military infrastructure constructed at Ali al-Taher over two decades by Iran and Hezbollah: underground networks, command centres, weapons depots, launch positions, living quarters and heavily fortified installations embedded within the landscape of southern Lebanon. That infrastructure did not appear overnight. It was planned, financed and constructed over many years to wage an Iranian war from Lebanese territory, beneath and among the communities whose destruction Courtney now films such as the hospital in Mansouri. Yet she turns her camera away from all of that. She strips Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and Iran’s role from the history of the conflict and presents Israel’s actions as though they materialized one morning without provocation, context or cause. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, and astonishing arrogance toward a Lebanese citizen who has lived through the consequences she merely visits to photograph. Courtney, you may block my account, but you cannot block Lebanon’s history. You cannot photograph our destroyed villages, erase the Iranian military machine constructed inside and beneath them, ignore the militia that initiated the hostilities and then curse Lebanese people who refuse to accept your imported narrative. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱. 𝗪𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀. The people of southern Lebanon are not scenery for foreign activists, and our ruined homes are not props for one-sided propaganda. Then Nasrallah invited Netanyahu back on 8 October 2023 and was killed in 2024. Then his successor Qasim re agreed to implement UNSCR 1701 of August 2006 in November 2024 but did not. He lied.
