Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie has confirmed that legends from South Africa national soccer team’s 2010 FIFA World Cup squad will face their Mexico national football team counterparts in a nostalgic rematch on 8 June 2026 in Pachuca, Mexico. He added that the South African legends will also be provided with tickets to attend the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup between Bafana Bafana and Mexico.

Bafana coach Hugo Broos, according to reports, opted to play the match behind closed doors to try new things tactically and not give anything away to World Cup opponents. Lyle Foster scored after a failed attempt to play out from the back by the Reggae Boys. The Island nation subsequently equalized.
