Jeff Bezos just described the Moon as a fuel depot, and the number behind it explains why nothing has ever left this planet cheaply. Bezos: โ€œit has a very low gravitational field, only a sixth of Earthโ€™s, which means it takes about 30 times less energy to lift a kilogram of mass off the Moon than it does to lift it off the Earth.โ€ Thirty to one. That number rewrites the economics of everything beyond this planet. Every rocket ever launched has fought the same math. The fuel required to escape Earth is so heavy that most of what a rocket carries is the fuel needed to carry the fuel. The Moon breaks that cycle. It sits outside the well with water frozen in its shadowed craters, and water splits into hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen and oxygen are rocket fuel. Bezos: โ€œthe Moon is really a giftโ€ Fill the tank up there instead of down here and the arithmetic of the entire solar system changes. Bezos: โ€œSo we can use the Moon as a rocket fuel depot to go to the rest of the solar system.โ€ Not a destination. A gas station. Then there is the second constraint, which is that the sky itself runs on a schedule. Bezos: โ€œunfortunately to get to other planetary bodies, they have very rare launch windows. Mars, you can go to Mars once every 26 months or so.โ€ Miss the window and the answer is not next week. It is two years and change. Every world beyond our own operates on a timetable that does not care about human ambition. Bezos: โ€œItโ€™s so close to Earth. Itโ€™s only three and a half days away.โ€ Except the Moon. The Moon is always there. Always reachable. That is what makes it the staging ground rather than the trophy. Apollo treated it as an endpoint, planted a flag, and came home. The flag was the mistake. A gas station is worth more than a monument. Monuments end the story. Infrastructure is what lets everyone who comes after take the trip for granted. Every era of exploration on Earth followed the same shape. Someone crossed once for glory, then someone built a port, and only after the port did ordinary people go. We have been staring at the Moon for three hundred thousand years thinking it was a destination. It was never the destination. It was the door. Every planet in the solar system just got closer. Not because the distances changed, but because the starting point did.

New episode on The Creative Genius of Rick Rubin This episode contains a nonstop stream of ideas directly from Rick about how to make great work over a long period of time: (01:00) Just one habit, at the top of any field, can be enough to give an edge over the competition. Wooden considered every aspect of the game where an issue might arise, and trained his players for each one. Repeatedly. Until they became habits. The goal was immaculate performance. Wooden often said the only person youโ€™re ever competing against is yourself. The rest is out of your control. This way of thinking applies to the creative life just as well. For both the artist and the athlete, the details matter, whether the players recognize their importance or not. Good habits create good art. The way we do anything is the way we do everything. Treat each choice you make, each action you take, each word you speak with skillful care. The goal is to live your life in the service of art. (08:41) Faith allows you to trust the direction without needing to understand it. (10:16) If you make the choice of reading classic literature every day for a year, rather than reading the news, by the end of that time period youโ€™ll have a more honed sensitivity for recognizing greatness from the books than from the media. This applies to every choice we make. Not just with art, but with the friends we choose, the conversations we have, even the thoughts we reflect on. All of these aspects affect our ability to distinguish good from very good, very good from great. They help us determine whatโ€™s worthy of our time and attention. Because thereโ€™s an endless amount of data available to us and we have a limited bandwidth to conserve, we might consider carefully curating the quality of what we allow in. The objective is not to learn to mimic greatness, but to calibrate our internal meter for greatness. So we can better make the thousands of choices that might ultimately lead to our own great work. (14:25) Weโ€™re affected by our surroundings, and finding the best environment to create a clear channel is personal and to be tested. (27:57) Rules direct us to average behaviors. If weโ€™re aiming to create works that are exceptional, most rules donโ€™t apply. Average is nothing to aspire to. The goal is not to fit in. Communicate your singular perspective. (28:30) Itโ€™s a healthy practice to approach our work with as few accepted rules, starting points, and limitations as possible. Often the standards in our chosen medium are so ubiquitous, we take them for granted. They are invisible and unquestioned. (29:00) The world isnโ€™t waiting for more of the same. The most innovative ideas come from those who master the rules to such a degree that they can see past them or from those who never learned them at all. (38:50) Fear of criticism. Attachment to a commercial result. Competing with past work. Time and resource constraints. The aspiration of wanting to change the world. And any story beyond โ€œI want to make the best thing I can make, whatever it isโ€ are all undermining forces in the quest for greatness. (42:32) To hone your craft is to honor creation. By practicing to improve, you are fulfilling your ultimate purpose on this planet. A lot more ideas in this episode including: The importance of developing a practice of paying attention, why impatience is an argument with reality, why you need to create space in your schedule to tap into ideas in from your subconscious, why you'll find what you're searching for by looking deeper, the reason it is important to carefully curate the quality of what we allow in: people, ideas, content, why rereading the same books again and again can help you find new ideas, how to find the environment that allows you to produce your best work โ€”and how other artists have done so, several examples of the people that are the best in the world at what they do being full of self-doubt โ€”and yet they do it anyways, why adversity is unavoidable, if you want to make great work for a long time you canโ€™t self-sabotage, why the goal is to keep playing (Rubin has been playing for 40+ years), how you can overcome insecurities by naming them, how you can doubt your way to excellence, why distraction is not procrastination and why distraction can be a strategy in service of the work, why if you're aiming to create works that are exceptional most rules donโ€™t apply, the importance of communicating your singular perspective, and why if there is one rule on creativity thatโ€™s unbreakable itโ€™s that the need for patience is ever-present.

Firefighter James Rodgers speaking alongside Zack Polanski, on the need to address climate change "When people talk about climate change, they often talk about the year 2050. Iโ€™m a firefighter. I want to talk about now, because for firefighters, climate change isnโ€™t a prediction, itโ€™s a shift weโ€™re already working. Climate change is the fire call to multiple back gardens alight, childrenโ€™s clothing burning on the washing line." "Climate change is the acrid smell as you effect entry into a flat because someone has succumbed to heat stroke and hasnโ€™t been checked on in weeks. Climate change is the sound of people in floods of tears when theyโ€™re stuck in a lift 20 floors up in 30-degree heat." "Climate change is the taste of dust in your dry mouth watching a fire sweep uncontrollably across a park you used to play football in as a child in your summer holidays. Climate change is this becoming a day-to-day reality." "This week Iโ€™ve spoken to my colleagues from all over the United Kingdom and they have said no one wants to admit it, but the heat is getting to all of us. Weโ€™re getting shorter with each other and weโ€™re finishing jobs feeling like weโ€™ve done a full dayโ€™s work even before lunch." "Another said, my station gets very hot inside and there isnโ€™t a place I can find relief from the heat whilst at work. It leaves me having more headaches and brain fog, less able to do my job after 24 years in the job. Another firefighter said to me, when are we finally going to get the workwear designed for this climate?" "Everyone who works in the fire brigade is feeling the exhaustion. We expect the fires, we expect the floods, we expect the road traffic collisions. What we didnโ€™t expect was for the extreme heat itself to become the emergency." "Not just for the public, for the people responding to it too. Climate change is rapidly changing the conditions in which every part of our job happens. Make no mistake, we will turn up. Donโ€™t fear the sound of our sirens โ€“ itโ€™s the sound of help on its way." "We will keep responding, we will keep adapting. The question isnโ€™t whether us firefighters will do our job, the question is whether the rest of us are willing to do ours. The climate crisis is stretching the fire service long before it makes headlines." "And whilst the same debates continue to happen, whilst fossil fuels are exploited from the earth for the profit of the few, our jobs are getting harder, days longer, resources thinner and incidents more severe." "Major fires can start with a single spark. Every solution starts with a decision to act. Every action that cuts emissions, protects our green spaces, teaches our children to care, supports resilience or helps a vulnerable neighbour matters." "Our future isnโ€™t decided by one big decision, but millions of small ones. And the longer we wait, the harder it becomes for communities, for governments and, yes, for firefighters too. Because the climate crisis isnโ€™t coming." "Itโ€™s calling 999."

At the end of the day, as I discussed with Jordan Peterson, there are just two games to be played, one real, one Woke. The real game is called civilization. The false game is called power. A long post/๐Ÿงต: The real divide between Woke and not Woke is in power. The Woke game is the power game, and it is a parasite on the real game, which is civilization. Here's roughly how Jordan described the foundation of this idea. There are various rules, norms, etc., in the game society ultimately plays, and these create a hierarchy that is based upon competence, mostly organically, obviously imperfectly. If the rules of the game are good enough, the imperfections (natural corruptions) are minor and society thrives. If they are not, you'll have problems. This is the real game of building society, and it ultimately has to favor competence. This game must be called "civilization" because that's not just its goal but it is also what it does. It civilizes us beyond our base instincts and impulses so we can work together productively in a healthy manner that generates prosperity. As Jordan put it, this game is also a reservoir of value, and reservoirs of value create parasites. What are these civilizational parasites? Theyโ€™re parallel games organized by and around malignant psychopathological modes like Dark Tetrad traits, psychopathy, and Cluster-B disorders: histrionic, borderline, antisocial, and narcissistic. These malignant pathologies render people incompetent except at manipulation, so they cannot rise far in a healthy civilizational hierarchy. What do they do, then, to gain power and status in life in a game they cannot actually play? They define a parasitic parallel game and rope people into playing it. It is parasitic in that it draws off the real game (civilization) and mimics its form so that the hosts (people in society) are less likely to realize itโ€™s there, but it doesnโ€™t build or create of its own. It siphons and tears down. What drives this game is failing to see what makes the civilizational game and the hierarchy it produces legitimate in the first place. This is characteristic of the psychopathologies at its heart. The narcissist imagines the world should be serving himself at the top, but it isnโ€™t. The problem canโ€™t be himself, so it must be that the game is illegitimate. Otherwise, heโ€™d be at the top, but he isnโ€™t. Therefore, the game is corrupt. His histrionic nature makes him a victim of the real game, preying upon emotions like empathy and righteous indignation to recruit followers. Because of his Dark Tetrad alignment, his game is not only illegitimate but toxic. Itโ€™s inherently sadistic, cruel to its recruits in the way typical of all cultsโ€”alternating punishment and leniency or even love-bombing. Itโ€™s dishonest. Itโ€™s psychologically broken from reality. Itโ€™s also a Machiavellian game, which means it has no interest in moral or ethical behavior but only in power. Thus, this rival game to the game of civilization is the game of power. The parasitic gameโ€”that is, the power gameโ€”is based on a fundamental failure to understand the legitimacy of the civilizational game or the approximately legitimate hierarchy it produces. This is a result of its narcissism, mostly. The game cannot be legitimate because the psychopath isnโ€™t on top of it, where he sees himself constantly as a projection from his frail ego. It sees power in the real hierarchy, though, which it can perceive and understand, and for which it blames most of its troubles. What this means is that the (Woke) power game develops a critical theory of the existing legitimate civilization game. Thatโ€™s why Woke means โ€œusing critical theory (and activism).โ€ A critical theory exists not to articulate a visionโ€”at least not beyond a Utopia after the cult power game holds power to enforce its power game long enoughโ€”but to โ€œcriticize those aspects of the existing society we wish to change,โ€ as Max Horkheimer, creator of the Critical Theory, put it. The critical theory of the power game exists to recruit by delegitimizing the civilization game in the minds of some of its players, usually ones who arenโ€™t succeeding as well. It picks at โ€œcontradictions,โ€ failures, and imperfections while casting the whole civilization game as corrupt and unjust. It offers itself as the only alternative to civilization game while pulling at the threads of the civilization game that allow people to believe in it. It all proceeds from the Woke failure to understand the legitimacy of the hierarchy of the civilization game as it proceeds from its set of rules. Misunderstanding legitimacy leads it to conclude that all hierarchies are actually based in power, and all power is fundamentally arbitrary. That is, they do not believe all power is illegitimate. They believe power is the only legitimate thing in any hierarchy, but they also believe that power is located in persons like themselves through their narcissism and projection. Think of Voldemort as an icon of this mode of thinking: โ€œthere is no good or evil, only power and those too weak to seek it.โ€ Of course, that quintessential Dark Tetrad perspective is what ensures the psychopathological power game will be rigged to make sure the psychopaths are attracted to it and rise to its top. This belief is what we call Woke. The Woke game is the power game, and it is a parasitic competitor to the civilization game. There is no overlap between these two games. To adopt the power game is to abandon the civilization game entirely and, in fact, to become its enemy. But James, you might ask, isnโ€™t there power in civilization? Yes, there is, and necessarily, but it isnโ€™t what defines the civilization game. Itโ€™s a byproduct of the game, not the game itself. The civilization game is fundamentally the building out of an organic and dynamic hierarchy based on a set of rules, or what some people call โ€œmuh principles,โ€ that will succeed or fail for that civilization in direct proportion to three things. 1) How aligned with the truth are the rules of the civilization game? 2) How aligned with justice are the rules of the civilization game? 3) How willing are the participants of the civilization game to defend their principles and their game, including against socio-parasitical perversion? The more aligned with truth and justice a civilization game is, the more successful it will be, and the more legitimate its hierarchy. The power that results as a byproduct is extremely legitimate in a highly aligned civilization where people havenโ€™t forgotten their charge to defend the game itself, which is what we call responsibility. A civilization game strongly aligned with truth and justice filled with a preponderance of responsible people will produce a thriving, prosperous society. It only works this way every time. Not everyone is responsible, though. Some are also incompetent because of various pathologies (not talking about for other reasons). Those pathological players may, under certain circumstances, create a parasitic side game with themselves on top through a variety of strategies that mimic the values and principles of the real game while distorting them into power plays because their game is power, as discussed above. They will recruit into that game primarily from those who are resentful of the real game for any variety of reasons, and getting recruited into the power game from the civilization game is called โ€œgoing Woke.โ€

Farcana is the most ambitious web3 gaming project of all time, and we are undergoing a major overhaul. Here is what is changing ๐Ÿ‘‡ Honestly, the past year has been a roller coaster, and as we reflect on the journey of 2024, we can say that we have taken innumerable lessons and insights to heart. Weโ€™ve seen what works and what doesnโ€™t, and if one thing that hasn't changed in us, is our drive to build the most epic shooter the space has ever seen. Farcana is that game. Farcana will not only redefine gaming but will also incorporate cutting-edge technologies like AI, real-world assets, and decentralization. Our goal is not only to address the pain points often encountered in traditional Web2 gaming, but to ensure a seamless and rewarding experience for players. Here are a few things, we would like to set in stone, going forward. ____________________________ 1. A Vision for the Future Our vision as often stated by our "haters" is quite ambitious: a AAA Shooter game. What others say is ambitious, is actually already acheived by us. Our playtests are a testament to this. We are determined to create a game that elevates the entire gaming landscape. We aim to introduce intelligent gameplay dynamics that adapts to player strategies, creating a truly immersive experience. Moreover, the integration of real-world assets will further bridge the gap between the virtual and real. We believe in empowering our community, giving players true ownership of their assets and fostering a collaborative ecosystem where creativity can thrive. All we can say at this point is that, something huge is coming. ____________________________ 2. Resilience and Strength This year hasnโ€™t just been about successes; itโ€™s also been about learning from those who didnโ€™t have our best interests at heart. Weโ€™ve faced setback, after setback..but each challenge has made us hungrier and more determined. It's often said, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You will witness this first hand with our team here at Farcana. We have grown and one thing we can do apart from creating a great game is to perfectly sail the complexities of the market. We are not just building a game; weโ€™re building a community that stands together, learns together, and celebrates every victory. We are resilient. We go FAR. ____________________________ 3. A call to join us. As we move forward, we invite you to be a part of this incredible journey. We have just one goal. That is to create a groundbreaking AAA shooter that redefines what gaming can be. Hereโ€™s to a future where gaming reaches new heightsโ€”letโ€™s elevate the experience together! JOIN US. LET'S GO FAR! ๐Ÿ’ซ

Grateful for the outpouring the past few days. I canโ€™t tell you how motivating it is to have people care so much about Arc. The encouragement, the criticism, the confusion. Took it all in <3 As a thank you, Iโ€™d like to speak more plainly about whatโ€™s happening and why โ€“ we owe it to you: 1. Every person who joined or invested in our company did so to build products beloved by hundreds of millions of people. โ€œWe want to be to the browser what the iPhone was to the cellphoneโ€ has been our rallying cry since Day One. We knew chance of success was low but the ambition made us leap out of bed every morning. 2. Arc is beloved, popular, and growing (4x daily actives YoY). But itโ€™s now clear that what most people love about the product *is also* what will prevent it from reaching hundreds of millions of people in our target demographic (people who spend hours in their browsers each day for their livelihood). Arc is a niche browser, even if we did not intend for it to be so. 3. Luckily, we architected this company โ€“ from company name to investors and technical architecture โ€“ to support multiple products since Day One. See Arc Search. Our favorite brands have multiple product lines in the same category too (Apple, Nike, Disney). Hence our realization: why keep trying to make Arc something it is not? Nobody who loved Arc wanted Arc Max. Arc members just want it to be more stable, secure, and performant. โ€œLetโ€™s just do that!โ€ 4. With Arc as our beloved but niche browser #1, we asked ourselves a simple question: if we founded the company TODAY (in 2024), with everything that we know, what would the browser of the future look like for hundreds of millions of people? Letโ€™s go build *that* product, alongside Arc. A second browser that is easier to use, more focused, and more powerful. All in order to live up to our founding mission (#1 above). 5. Yet none of this wouldโ€™ve happened if it werenโ€™t for the timing (market timing is most underrated startup ingredient). Mark my words: the Web is going to dramatically change in 2025 โ€“ much more than we all appreciate. Crazy new AI & computer-use models are incoming. I promise you that new browsers will be the story of 2025 (The Browser Company aside). Why? The browser layer is the obvious epicenter of AI & Agents because of its unique context, cookies, & apps. 6. To build a breakthrough consumer product (#1) โ€“ like truly breakthrough โ€“ you need a catalyzing innovation or technology. AI will be that for the next era of browsers, whether we win or someone else does. So why us (other than Arc is niche)? Our belief is that not only do you need the browser layer to win, but โ€œthe hard partโ€ is nailing the interface, the interactions, the storytelling. Thatโ€™s our bread & butter. Thatโ€™s the expertise of our team. Now you can see how these puzzle pieces fit togetherโ€ฆ We built something people love (in Arc) and we intend to stick by it. But we also wonโ€™t lose sight of why our team poured so much blood, sweat and tears over the past 4 years into this company: the mission to build a new interface to the internet used by hundreds of millions of people every day. It truly feels like the moment we were waiting for is here and we wonโ€™t miss it. Everything weโ€™ve done up until this point was for this type of window, even if we couldnโ€™t have predicted it would play out exactly this way. Weโ€™re hopeful that more of you will understand why weโ€™re building this second product soon. I feel confident you will once we can show you more of what weโ€™re dreaming up, and once more of the things weโ€™ve heard and seen in the industry reveal themselves soon. Candidly, we wanted to wait on this announcement but random stuff was leaking and it seemed wrong for you to hear from anyone except us first. Weโ€™ve always been at our best when weโ€™re open & honest. Weโ€™ll continue to be. Finally, THANK YOU, again, for the love & tough love. We donโ€™t take it for granted. We canโ€™t wait to ship, ship, ship in early 2025!

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŽฅ Full post-match interview with Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire after the 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town! ๐Ÿ”ด๐Ÿ”ฅ โ€ข Reaction after the disappointing opening game! โ€ข Regaining control and showing courage in the second half! โ€ข Brunoโ€™s third hat-trick at Old Trafford! ๐ŸŽฉ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Interviewer: โ€œCongratulations on the win. It looks like a very big victory and your first of the season. How are you feeling?โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Bruno Fernandes: โ€œIt was definitely a very important and big win for us. We knew we had dropped three points last week, so the aim was to get the three points and put in a great performance for our fans at home in our first game here for a long time. We canโ€™t make up for last week because you canโ€™t get six points from one game, but we wanted to start the game on the front foot and with intensity. We controlled the game even when we conceded, and in the second half we were really excellent.โ€ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Interviewer: โ€œThe game felt like a real statement of the teamโ€™s strength. Harry, what did the team do particularly well?โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Harry Maguire: โ€œI think we started the game really well, but their goal unsettled us a lot. Last weekโ€™s defeat was difficult, and when you lose at this club, thereโ€™s a lot of noise and it feels like youโ€™re in a crisis again after just one game! After conceding, we lost control for five to ten minutes, but we spoke at half-time, came out and took control again. We know weโ€™re capable of scoring at any moment, and we showed that today. We could have scored even more goals.โ€ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Interviewer: โ€œBruno, how important was your equaliser right before half-time in maintaining that belief?โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Bruno Fernandes: โ€œScoring before half-time is always important, whether itโ€™s to take the lead or to equalise, because it gives you the belief that what you were doing wasnโ€™t completely wrong. As Harry said, we were controlling the game and lost control for five to ten minutes after the goal, but we got back on track. In the second half, after making a few adjustments, we were really excellent.โ€ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Interviewer: โ€œHarry, you were involved in the second goal, and there was some debate over whether it was your goal or a handball. What do you think happened?โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Harry Maguire: โ€œTo be honest, I havenโ€™t watched the replay, so I canโ€™t comment accurately. I know it was a close call, and it certainly wasnโ€™t an intentional handball. I donโ€™t know if the ball actually hit my fingers. My shot was slightly off target, so I think it will unfortunately be given as an own goal! Maybe thatโ€™s why it was awarded, because if it had been my goal, they would have ruled it out under the current rules. Luckily, luck was on our side today, and we deserved the win and deserved that bit of fortune.โ€ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Interviewer: โ€œBruno, this is your third hat-trick in a Manchester United shirt. How amazing does it feel?โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Bruno Fernandes: โ€œScoring goals is definitely the best feeling in football, and scoring a hat-trick at Old Trafford in front of our fans is incredible. Iโ€™m very proud of it. But the most important thing is always to score to help the team win. I did that today, and hopefully I can score more and help my teammates score as well.โ€ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Interviewer: โ€œHow important is a result like this as a response to what happened on the opening day?โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Harry Maguire: โ€œItโ€™s a very important win. Last week was frustrating; we had prepared throughout pre-season to win against Hull City, but unfortunately we conceded two goals from set pieces and lost. We knew how important todayโ€™s game was in front of our fans after being away from Old Trafford for such a long time, and luckily we got the three points. In the end, itโ€™s three points and we move forward. The season is long, and weโ€™ll focus on the next game.โ€ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Interviewer: โ€œHarry, would you like to present the award? Bruno is the Player of the Match.โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Harry Maguire (jokingly handing over the award): โ€œAnother award!โ€ ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Bruno Fernandes: โ€œThank you very much, mate.โ€ ๐Ÿคโค๏ธ

Kevin Oโ€™Connell tells Vikings QBs he doesn't care if they throw interceptions in training camp โ€œThere are so many things in society, not even just football nowadays, where we want to decide in a moment this guy can or canโ€™t, this guyโ€™s a success or failure. And itโ€™s just not in alignment with the reality of the position or our game.โ€ โ€œEverything should be driven by process, and part of process is failure. Every year in training camp I give my yearly State of the Union on the first practice: โ€˜Just as a heads up, Iโ€™m not going to be commenting on you guys taking your stats every single day. So-and-so went 6-of-11 with two interceptions, and then we chart it for the whole training camp and decide who won or lost this position or quarterback battle.โ€™โ€ โ€œI challenge the quarterbacks all the time: weโ€™re against Brian Flores every day. This is going to be a 10-out-of-10 stress for all of us. There are going to be good days and there are going to be bad days, but I want you to be aggressive with your decision-making.โ€ โ€œHow will we know on third-and-eight in Week 12 that you can try to fit a ball in there to Justin Jefferson on a backside in-cut? How will we know if you donโ€™t try to do it now?โ€ โ€œSo when you do it now, and you take the proper footwork and try to throw it into a tight window and the ball gets tipped and intercepted, letโ€™s go back and look at it first. Iโ€™ve got no problem with the decision. What was your footwork like? Were you in your base, balance, body position? Were you playing on the timing of the play? Did you make the protection call you needed?โ€ โ€œIf you did all those things and it was just a blade of grass different from being the best completion you had all day, now you know.โ€ โ€œI can finish up a practice and go to the podium and have people say, โ€˜So-and-so really struggled today, didnโ€™t you think?โ€™ And Iโ€™m like, thereโ€™s not enough time in the day for me to explain all the reasons why youโ€™re wrong. Weโ€™re going to go in the quarterback room, weโ€™re going to watch it, and weโ€™re going to be better tomorrow.โ€

Community Update โ€“ Giggle ๐ŸŒโœจ Dear Gigglians, A lot has happened since our last update โ€“ and we're just getting started!๐Ÿ‘ To all our new holders, welcome to the movement. Feel free read our last update aswell if you haven't already. First and foremost: Thank you๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ™ The trust, support, and love we receive every day โ€“ through DMs, community efforts, and media outreach โ€“ continue to prove that Giggle is much more than a memecoin. It's a movement that touches lives. Itโ€™s about impact. Itโ€™s about rewriting the narrative of what crypto can do in the real world. So far, over $4 million(!) has been donated to Giggle Academy โ€“ funding childrenโ€™s education in underdeveloped regions where opportunity is scarce. Imagine the futures weโ€™re enabling. We canโ€™t wait to follow the on-chain updates from the Giggle Academy in the near future as the funds are put to work. ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒฑ What Weโ€™ve done (Since Our Last Update): โœ… Linktree is now live (linked in bio). Youโ€™ll find direct access to all our key platforms. โœ… Telegram groups launched: We now have fully operational English and Chinese TGs. Join the one that fits you best and get involved. Huge shoutout to our western and Asian communities. We see your passion! The movement is global.๐ŸŒ โœ… Community talents rising: Animators, designers, meme makers โ€“ our community is buzzing with creativity. Weโ€™ve onboarded a group of mods and contributors already. All joining the movement because of their passion for Giggle. If you want to get involved, DM us โ€“ weโ€™ll plug you in.๐Ÿค โœ… Regular updates: Weโ€™ll be posting community updates here on X every 48โ€“72 hours. Itโ€™s important to us that you always know where weโ€™re heading. Transparency isnโ€™t just a word here โ€“ itโ€™s a principle.๐Ÿ™Œ Your trust is not taken lightly. We carry this mission with pride, and weโ€™re committed to building the most innovative, impactful memecoin the world has ever seen โ€“ and the first one to truly change lives. Vision: Where We're Headed Giggle isnโ€™t just a memecoin โ€“ it's a force for good. Itโ€™s the reason our honorary supporter, Godfather CZ ๐Ÿ”ถ BNB, shifted his view on what memecoins can represent. He helped ignite a fire โ€“ but itโ€™s up to us, the community, to keep it burning. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Thereโ€™s no secret sauce here. It all comes down to daily choices, community effort, and belief in the mission. More awareness = more trading volume. More volume = more donations. More donations = more children educated. And so the flywheel continues. โ™ป๏ธ We have big plans ahead โ€“ expansion ideas, awareness campaigns, partnerships โ€“ but at the heart of all of it is you. Your creativity, your tweets, your energy. This is a community-led movement, and you are the loudest and brightest billboard we could ever ask for. USE IT!๐Ÿ’ก Final Words: Zoom Out Weโ€™ve been dealt a rare hand โ€“ a diamond in the rough. Letโ€™s not waste it. Letโ€™s keep showing the world that memecoins can do more than moon โ€“ they can matter. One day at a time. One child at a time. And one meme at a time. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Letโ€™s change the way the world sees crypto โ€“ for good. Weโ€™re just getting started. And last, but certainly not least, let's have some fun! You only live once, after all...โ˜บ๏ธ Yours truly, Giggle CTO #MemecoinWithPurpose

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท Anwar Ibrahim at the BRICS Business Forum 2025 in Rio In Rio, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim delivered a quiet thunderclap: BRICS 2025 is not merely a summitโ€”itโ€™s a historic turning point in the unfinished struggle for post-colonial justice. He invoked the legacy of Sukarno, Nehru, Zhou Enlai, and Nkrumahโ€”founders of a vision long obstructed by the chokehold of Western institutions. The Non-Aligned Movement and G77 laid the groundwork, but too often the Global South was spoken about, not with. Those days, he suggested, are numbered. What sets todayโ€™s BRICS apart, Anwar argued, is not just political will, but the convergence of state leadership with the energy of the business community, youth, women, and civil society. This is no longer about theory or protestโ€”itโ€™s about implementation, trade, currency sovereignty, and technological parity. He saluted President Lula for defying the scripted roles assigned to Southern leaders and advancing a vision rooted in dignity and independence. That eraโ€”of waiting for permission from Washington or Brusselsโ€”is over. As Anwar put it, โ€œWe cannot continue complaining but not executing.โ€ The message was unmistakable: the Global South is no longer a passive blocโ€”it is a strategic South, ready to engage the world on its own terms, with its own voice, and on equal footing. Full Speech Transcript (Edited lightly for clarity and flow.) It is a historic moment. For those of you who have been following the course of history, we realize that the attempt to save the voice of newly emerging economies and countriesโ€”post-colonialismโ€”was led by Sukarno of Indonesia, Zhou Enlai of China, Jawaharlal Nehru of India, and Nkrumah of Africa. It was a bold attempt to ensure that the voice of conscienceโ€”of those struggling for freedom and justiceโ€”would be heard. It did not achieve much success. But it was a bold attempt. Then we had the Non-Aligned Movement. Preceding that, we had the G77โ€”still not achieving the desired results. Now, I salute you, President Lula, for having the courage to proceed with a clear vision, a clear commitment, to voice the concerns and aspirations of the people, particularly of the Global South. [applause] But why are we particularly encouraged? Because it is no longer an effort purely of political leadership. Political leaders have a role to initiate this reform. But what is spectacular about BRICS is the participation of the business communityโ€”the private sectorโ€”that complements this effort, ensuring that the voice of reason, the voice for justice, is not only heard, but also implemented. Together with political leadership, the business community, women, youth, and the private sectorโ€”we salute you all for this effort. [applause] I see this conference in a more positive light. Weโ€™re not here to complain or lament those who believe in unilateral actionsโ€”tariffs, protectionism. Here, we raise a voice for multilateralism, for collaboration. We work with countries of the South, but still engage with countries in the North as friends in this new alliance. But we want to make sure we speak from a position of strengthโ€”not as weak, ex-colonial countries, but as independent nations with a clear position. And now you seeโ€”from aerospace to AI, from food tech to green technologyโ€”you have this new strength emerging from emerging economies. And I believe this BRICS initiative will succeed in ways that could alter and redirect the course of human history. Thank you very much for this effort. [applause] I come from Malaysia. And in ASEAN, we deliberate these issues. First, we must be cohesive. We must speak as oneโ€”based on multilateral arrangementsโ€”and we must promote the principle of centrality: befriending all, supporting just causes. But it's no longer enough to rely on rhetoric and political platitudes. What we need is concrete action. Thatโ€™s why one of ASEANโ€™s pillars is the business community. We must increase intra-ASEAN trade. And now, we must also increase intra-BRICS trade. We have enormous potential, and we must act on it. Because only with that strength can we negotiateโ€”safely, fairly, and justlyโ€”with all other partners, multilaterally. We must demand reform: a democratic, just, international, and multilateral orderโ€”from the United Nations to the WTO, to the IMF and the World Bank. Again, I support the position taken by President Lulaโ€”one of the few courageous leaders todayโ€”voicing the concerns of those who have long gone unheard. So thank you, my friend. [applause] In ASEAN, weโ€™ve not only worked on enhancing inter-ASEAN trade; weโ€™ve also experimented with financial settlement systems. Weโ€™ve started using local currencies. Of course, weโ€™re not talking about full de-dollarization yetโ€”thatโ€™s still a long road. But weโ€™ve started: Malaysia with Indonesia, Malaysia with Thailand, and now also with China. Even beginning with 10 or 20% makes a difference. We cannot continue to complain without implementing our own plans among ourselves and our friendly neighbors. And I believe that what President Lula saidโ€”and what the chairman of the confederation emphasizedโ€”about ensuring the private sector takes these items seriously will truly make a difference. But let me return to the central point: BRICS in 2025 is not the first attempt. The Bandung Conference in 1955โ€”it began when we were still struggling. No industry. No new technology. No real capacityโ€”except for our shared humanity, our national aspirations, and political leadership. Now, we have political leadership with vision, and we have a strong business community. I believe that this collaborationโ€”between women and youth, between governments and the private sector, and with civil societyโ€”will make a difference. I thank you again, Mr. President. See you in Kuala Lumpur in October. Thank you. [applause]

Has been a while since I've given an update so here's a breakdown of where Sappy is at right now and what we're focusing on going into this year. Pre-amble: With altcoins & NFTs the market is definitely not the same as it was before. I think this is obvious to everyone but I've noticed there are still japanese soldiers that are convinced old tricks and mechanics work. They don't. Liquidity is thin; people want to bid assets that feel like "real companies" not vacuous memecoins. There's still room for memecoins, social currencies, and "utility tokens" (I would say without these functions, tokens are hard to justify versus equities). I'm not part of the camp that thinks there will never be hyperspeculation in crypto again, because there will be; we all love ponzis and PvPing each other onchain. Just not with solved games -- people need something new and fresh. So the overarching plan is to continue building for users, sustainable revenues that aren't tied to directly to crypto, and doubling down on the areas that we've already found PMF / Brand Market Fit. Then leaning into crypto during cyclical periods where liquidity is sloshing around at an accelerated rate. Where we've found early PMF / what we're leaning into: Roblox: we're going to continue to go hard and accelerate here. It's our main objective to ship more seal/brainrot focused games across most genres to cast as wide of a net as we can for the brand, and to also iterate and see what works and stays sticky. Our initial incursion into Roblox was very successful peaking at 2M+ MAU and still sustaining a large portion of that player base... for all of its success, that was a relatively amateur first attempt; we've been setting up better AI pipelines for Roblox development that makes it reasonable to ship many more games and 10x those player counts in totality. It's my belief that Roblox is the sandbox whose audience will be the most valuable on the internet once they are grown up. That intense feeling you get when you see a TikTok referencing an old game you enjoyed on the PS2 or the Gamecube, or when you see a Pokemon card is the exact same feeling the youth of today will get when reminiscing on the things they enjoyed engaging with when they were younger. Fortnite and Roblox are functional equivalents to the old school consoles and exactly where that is taking place. Which is why as much as I care about scaling revenues through Roblox, the long term brand equity gained purely through being popular on the platform is totally invaluable. It also can heavily convert to merchandise sales today if all touchpoints for the brand are dialed in (which is why brands get overcharged so much by Roblox dev shops for the same ROI that only cost us a few thousand $). We have the playbook, it's just about iterating new concepts and then aggressively scaling. Brand Expansion & Merchandising: I've started to create a content pipeline that is easily repeatable, cost efficient (costs next to nothing through either AI or smart reusable concepts), while still being very tasteful and meeting our quality standards for the brand. We are mostly focusing here on reaching people where they're at through nostalgic/emotional content, or just being visually stimulating through carefully curated aesthetics. Content that isn't superficial and touches people in a memorable way. I've attached some examples to the post so you can see what I mean rather than just read it. I don't think it's long until larger brands start doing this at scale, but it's always good to be ahead of the curve and most importantly winning on taste -- knowing what will resonate with people and what won't has always been our edge. The purpose for these accounts is not only to rack up attention but also to begin converting those into sales of both of physicals (plushies & gacha collectibles) and digital avenues like our games, and any other apps we produce. Because they're offshoot accounts it's also a lot easier to be aggressive/experimental with said conversion strategies. Sappy Studio: I'm wrapping everything like Omnia, and everything else into this category because they're all tangentially related. Beginning with Omnia, our current focus is gearing up for Season 0 which involves players competing in the ranked ladder for a prize pool that has rewards through Monad Momentum as well as a player-funded prize pool. This season will be fairly simple with us mostly logging retention, deck building habits, as well as qualitatively observing how aggressively players push the combat system. Deeper monetization wont exist yet outside of the player buy-in (to be eligible for P2E rewards). Beyond that our overarching principle this year is to focus heavily on risk-to-earn mechanics where a portion of that excess value is circular i.e. revenues flow back to prize pools or other parts of the economy, treating the game almost like a protocol where the objective is to amass TVL or player liquidity. Social is also a big focus, and that means implementing the Open World hub which from an infrastructure perspective has already been built out and tested by all of you previously. Right now we are scaffolding the environment in 3D and working through how that hub should look and feel, so players are excited to hang out & idle together while they're queuing. For sappydotlol, what I'm about to say is still early days from a design perspective so a lot can change, but I'm pushing the site in the direction of being a virtual game console. An intersection between Nintendo & Myspace where users can play, trade, and socially interact in a way that's deeply personalised; a breathe of fresh air from the hostility of the current internet. If you go back to my thesis on Roblox above and the game console references, you can kind of see how this will all sequentially tie together. In essence, the strategy is to acquire a critical mass of players through traditional platforms like Roblox, and use that attention and trust to provide an onboarding funnel for web2 users into our own sandbox filled with a mixture of our own browser-based experiences as well as an aggregation of others. The aim is to make the platform a breath of fresh air & bunker from the enshittified platforms like TikTok/IG/X where users are actually served in ways that delight rather than agitate, and where self-expression is incentivised. Closing: As always everything here is subject to change but I've never felt more conviction in our direction until now; I know exactly what we need to do and how, with everything aligning with our team's strengths. Very excited and grinding through things to the point where I'm getting headaches and can't sleep from being hyperfocused for long periods of time lol. There probably has never been a better time to join the ecosystem from a price to fuck around and find out perspective.

The $AEGIS DApp portal is now open to all: ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ At Aegis, we believe in empowering the blockchain full of security, transparency and innovation. The Aegis Dapp has been under development for several months prior to the launch of $AEGIS and with that we have been able to build what we believe has the potential to change how users go about their day to day security. We are thrilled to share our progress and truly exciting news with you all. ๐ŸŽฏ First things first, at Aegis, we want to make it clear that the value of what we seek to bring to security across the blockchain, comes from our big vision, our strong team, and our commitment to long-term goals. โ„น๏ธ Letโ€™s kick this off with some information that is constantly happening, which is behind the scenes. Our full team is dedicated to the opportunity that lays ahead of us with becoming the leading voice/name for security, grasping every aspect with innovation, hard work, passion and commitment to see this sector grow. Everyone is aware of how important security is, a heartwarming mention to Messari for including us on how they see this sector growing rapidly and pushing a 10 Billion evaluation. We take that recognition with full responsibility and gratitude as we've been working hard on some really powerful stuff that could change the game for our industry. If you read the title and report itself, Iโ€™m sure thatโ€™ll give you some insight to whatโ€™s coming, and to the vast extent of what you can expect Aegis to be working towards. โ€”> ๐Ÿค This comes from teaming up with others within this sector and coming up with new tech to projects driven by our community, within the pipeline you can be confident that what we are building will push the cryptocurrency industry as a whole into a better future, the magnitude to what Aegis brings will not stop until we can confidently say, โ€œNegative security reports across the blockchain are at an all time low, thousands of users are satisfied that Aegis is protecting them and their assets.โ€ We're sticking to our vision no matter what the market does or whatever else comes our way. We plan to build what we set out to and we will see to it that our ecosystem is met. We've been working on some pretty amazing products that will be available within our Dapp, letโ€™s go over what we offer: * AI Audits * Live Monitoring * Penetration Testing * Bug Bounties * Live Watchdog * Token analytics for everyday users, developers, teams, auditors, institutions, investors. โฌ‡๏ธ Letโ€™s break it down for you in some simple steps: AI AUDITS: We have trained our LLM models as AI AGENTS, these consist of 3 people ( AI AGENTS ) for the audits that are performed. - Audit - Reviewer - Judge Each one analyzes with a different personality, letโ€™s check what personalities our AI AGENTS consist of: 3 different perspective auditors. 1 - Fine-tuned model x amount reads the code and generates the audit. โœ… 2 - Model x amount reviews the code and fact checks thoroughly. โœ… 3 - Model x amount ranks the code based on the severity outcome. โœ… โŒš๏ธ Live Monitoring/Watchdog: The Live Monitoring/Watchdog system is designed to provide real-time surveillance of smart contracts, ensuring the detection and prevention of any potentially harmful transactions or malicious activities. Through the utilization of an AI Agent model, the system is trained to proactively identify and thwart suspicious behavior, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the smart contracts. Also, a paid sophisticated threat detection model is available for more intricate protocols and Dapps, offering an advanced level of protection against potential threats. This proactive approach is crucial in mitigating the risk of exploitation and ensuring the security of the smart contract ecosystem. ๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ Pen Testing: Our platform offers Pen Testing services to developers, providing a controlled environment for whitehat hackers to simulate attacks and identify vulnerabilities in smart contracts and protocols. In addition to human whitehat hackers, our AI Agents function as Red and Blue teams, actively engaging in simulated attacks to stress-test protocols and identify potential weaknesses. This comprehensive approach allows developers to proactively identify and address security issues, ultimately enhancing the robustness and resilience of their projects. ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Bug Bounties: Our Bug Bounty listing platform provides developers with the opportunity to list their protocols and offer bounties to white hat hackers for identifying vulnerabilities. By aggregating millions of bounties from various platforms and utilizing AI tools, we streamline the testing process, reducing up to 80% of the workload typically associated with security testing. This allows developers to efficiently identify and address potential vulnerabilities in their protocols, ultimately enhancing the overall security and resilience of their projects. ๐Ÿช™ And lot more token analytics features for regular users, this will give you the opportunity to explore our Dapp for yourself and have some fun diving into the security platform of the future! Iโ€™m sure youโ€™re excited to try it all out yourself, which is why we have some exciting news to bring to the #Guardians of the blockchain! But just before you continue the read and see the beans have been spilled, we have to take this opportunity to share with you that this large step to becoming a security leader is but only 20% of what we have revealed. This will be at the core of what Aegis stands for and hopes to achieve. The focus here is upon our Dapp, and in time we will slowly bring forward information/updates regarding segments of what makes Aegis a force to be reckoned with. Now that youโ€™re fired up and excited to all of the announcements to come, letโ€™s get to the news youโ€™ve been waiting for! ๐ŸŽ‰ Weโ€™re spilling the good news, and are happy to say we are now set for public release! The team at Aegis are overwhelmed with the development, support from teams, community, partners and more on what we believe to be an institutional-grade product. But the fun doesnโ€™t stop there, this marks the start of what we aim to become, as it will take time and cycles to become better and better. Constant advancements will be set in place to attain the goal of achieving blockchain security. A statement from our CEO- Brian Hunt: โ€œI can confirm from the security conferences I attended with Centralized security firms Peckshield, Hacken, Certik, BlockSec presentations, they are trying to achieve something similar and it will take them years. Decentralized AI for Security!โ€ This initial drop of our dapp will be to get users signed up to gain access, in which weโ€™ll whitelist users to get the ball rolling. ๐Ÿ“ฃ To end this segment, letโ€™s get the party started with the long awaited Aegis Ai Security Dapp and sign up now!

A dog just made the bravest decision I have seen anyone make this year. Not a founder. Not an athlete. Not a person with a plan and a five-year vision board. A dog, on an empty road, with nothing to lose and no idea what would come next. I have watched what comes next more times than I will admit in public. This post is 25,000 characters long. It is a list of reasons why you should watch it too. Read as much as you want, but understand one thing before you start: the video is the only part that matters, and this is everything the video doesn't have room to say. Sound on. Phone in both hands. Do not skip. I'll be here when you get back. THE NUMBER THAT SHOULD BOTHER YOU Let me start with two numbers. The first: commonly cited estimates put the world's stray dog population at around 200 million. Two hundred million animals with no address, no bowl with their name on it, and no one who would notice if they didn't come back tonight. The second number is one. That is how many people had to be on that road, at that exact minute, looking in that exact direction, in a good enough mood to stop. Not two. Not a crowd. One. Here is what nobody says out loud: for every dog you see rescued on camera, there are millions the camera never reached. We don't see them because no one was there. The videos that reach you are not a sample of reality. They are the winners of a lottery so brutal that Powerball looks like a coin flip next to it. So when one of these lands in your feed, don't scroll past it like content. Treat it like what it is: a statistical miracle that happened to end well. And miracles have a structure. Let's take this one apart. FIVE LINKS. BREAK ONE AND THE STORY DOESN'T EXIST. Link one: the dog has to survive long enough to be seen. Roads are not built for small animals. Vehicles do not slow down for shapes on the asphalt. Every hour out there is a coin flip the animal has to win again, and again, and again. Link two: someone has to be present. Not nearby. Present. Eyes up, phone down, brain not busy replaying the argument from breakfast. Link three: that someone has to notice. It sounds simple. It isn't. The human brain is a filtering machine, and a small animal on a road becomes a plastic bag, a shadow, a piece of tire. The most common reason a dog is not rescued is not cruelty. It is that nobody registered it as a dog. Link four: the person has to stop. This is the link that snaps most often. Seeing is free. Stopping costs you time, comfort, a schedule, and possibly the mood of your entire day. Link five: the dog has to let them. An animal that has learned that hands mean pain has every biological reason to run. Trust is not a given. It is a negotiation, and the dog holds the veto. Five links. All five held. Remember that when you press play. You are not watching a nice story. You are watching a chain that should have snapped at least four times. THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP DRIVING In 1968, psychologists John Darley and Bibb Latane published a set of experiments that changed how we think about helping. The finding was uncomfortable: the more people who witness an emergency, the less likely any one of them is to act. They called it diffusion of responsibility. Everyone assumes someone else will handle it. So nobody does. Later research added nuance. When an emergency is clear and dangerous, people step in more often than the original theory predicted. But the core insight has survived half a century of testing, because it describes something every one of us has felt: the small, quiet voice that says, somebody else will stop. Now picture a road with no crowd at all. No audience. No one to hide behind. No one to blame. Just you and a decision that is entirely, inescapably yours. That is the situation the person in this video walked into. And the reason it is worth your attention is not that they did something impossible. It is that they did something small, and it turns out small is exactly what almost nobody does. You don't need to be a hero. You need to be inconvenienced. THE FACE IS THE RESUME In 2013, researcher Bridget Waller and her team studied dogs in a UK shelter and asked a simple question: what makes one dog get adopted faster than another? It wasn't size. It wasn't age. It wasn't coat color. It was one tiny facial movement: the raising of the inner eyebrows. The move that makes a dog's eyes look bigger, softer, almost sad. Dogs that did it more often were chosen faster. Six years later, a study led by Juliane Kaminski found out why that movement is so easy for dogs and so hard for wolves. Dogs have a small muscle around the eye that wolves largely lack. Over thousands of years of living beside us, dogs evolved a way to make their faces speak our language. Read that again. A species rewired its own anatomy to be understood by another species. No other animal has done this to us. Nobody taught them. Nobody forced them. They looked at us, worked out what we respond to, and grew the tool. Now look at the face in this video. You will know the second you see it. That is not a coincidence, and it is not luck. It is fifteen thousand years of engineering aimed directly at your chest. THE ONLY LOOP LIKE IT ON EARTH In 2015, a Japanese team led by Miho Nagasawa published a result in the journal Science that made researchers stop and reread the abstract. When a dog and its owner look into each other's eyes, both of their oxytocin levels rise. Oxytocin is the bonding chemical, the same one that flows between a mother and her newborn. Dog looks at human. Human's oxytocin rises. Human looks back, touches, talks softly. Dog's oxytocin rises. Which makes the dog look longer. Which makes the human's oxytocin rise again. A feedback loop of affection, running across two species, powered by nothing but eye contact. Here is the part that gets me: the effect did not show up the same way in wolves raised by humans. The loop is not just training. It is something that evolved between us. So the next time someone says a dog is just responding to food, tell them there is a peer-reviewed study that disagrees. And keep this fact in your pocket for the video. Because at some point, a moment of eye contact happens in it, and I want you to know what is really going on in that room. THEY CAN SMELL WHAT YOU'RE HIDING Humans have roughly 6 million scent receptors. Dogs are commonly cited as having around 300 million. A large share of a dog's brain is devoted to processing smell. What you experience as a room, a dog experiences as a layered document: who was here, how long ago, and how they felt. In 2022, researchers at Queen's University Belfast tested something remarkable. They collected breath and sweat samples from people before and after a stressful task. Then they asked dogs to tell the samples apart. The dogs got it right nearly 94 percent of the time. Your body broadcasts your emotional state as chemistry. You cannot turn it off. You cannot fake calm. A dog reads your fear, your tension, your irritation, before you have opened your mouth. Which means every rescue is, at its core, a test of one thing: are you actually calm, or are you performing calm? The dog knows. It always knows. And that is why what happens in the first few seconds of this video matters more than anything that comes after it. Watch the body language. Watch how slowly things move. Watch what is not done. THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENT IN ANY RESCUE IS THE ONE WHERE NOTHING HAPPENS Animal behaviorists describe fear responses in four flavors: fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. Fight is what people expect. Flight is what most strays do. Freeze is what looks like calm but isn't. And fawn, the desperate, wiggling, please-don't-hurt-me appeasement, is the one that breaks your heart the fastest, because it looks like friendliness and it is actually terror. Rescuers who have done this hundreds of times will tell you the same handful of rules. Don't loom. Don't stare straight into the eyes. Get low. Turn sideways. Slow everything down until it feels absurd. Let the animal close the last few feet on its own terms. The hardest instruction, and the one most people can't follow, is the last one: do nothing. Every instinct you have says reach out. Grab. Fix. Take control of the situation. And every good rescue begins with someone who did the opposite. Who made themselves small, patient, and boring, and waited for a frightened animal to decide that the safest thing in its whole world might be a stranger. You are about to watch someone do exactly that. Notice how little they need to say. THE TEARS THEY WON'T PUT IN THE HEADLINE Scientists are careful people. They do not like to say "dogs cry." But in 2022, a team from Azabu University in Japan, led by Takefumi Kikusui, measured tear volume in dogs during reunions with their owners. The result: tear volume rose significantly compared with reunions involving other familiar people. And when researchers applied oxytocin to the dogs' eyes, tear volume rose again. Not sadness crying. Not the crying we do. Something else, something closer to overflow. The body producing water at the exact moment the heart has more in it than it can hold. Nobody has proven that this is the same thing we feel. Scientists will tell you that, and they are right to. But here is a question worth sitting with. If an animal's eyes fill with water when it sees the one being it has decided to trust, what exactly are we arguing about? Watch the eyes in this video. Then tell me what you think you saw. ONCE IT HAS A NAME, IT STOPS BEING A STATISTIC In 2007, psychologist Paul Slovic and colleagues ran an experiment on generosity. They showed people a fundraising appeal for a hungry child, and then a second version that added statistics about millions of other children in the same crisis. More data. More context. More reasons to care. Donations dropped. Slovic called it psychic numbing. The human mind can hold one face. It cannot hold two hundred million. When a tragedy becomes a number, empathy quietly switches off, and we don't even notice it happening. This is why one named animal in one small video can do what a hundred reports full of charts cannot. It gives your brain something it can actually care about: a single life, with a face, a fear, and a future that could go either way. The stray population is a statistic. A dog is a story. And stories, unlike statistics, come with a name at the end. When you reach that moment in the video, pay attention to what it does to you. Notice the small shift in your chest. That is the sound of a number turning into a person, or close enough. THE WORD FOR WHAT YOU'RE ABOUT TO FEEL Researchers have a name for the feeling you get when something touches you so suddenly that your throat tightens and your eyes sting. They call it kama muta, Sanskrit for "moved by love." Anthropologist Alan Fiske proposed that it is a distinct emotion, triggered by a sudden intensification of closeness. Two beings who were strangers become bonded. Someone who was alone becomes part of something. People across many cultures describe the same set of signs: warmth in the chest, goosebumps, a lump in the throat, tears they didn't plan on, and a strong urge to hug someone or hold something. Here is what makes it useful and not just sweet: kama muta is one of the most reliable emotional responses we have. It shows up when reunions happen. When a stranger helps unexpectedly. When an animal, after a long time alone, is finally held. You've felt it. You just never had a word for it. Take note of the exact second it hits you in this video. I promise there is one. And if you're the kind of person who says "I never cry at videos," I would like to schedule a follow-up. WHY YOU'LL WANT TO BE A BETTER PERSON AFTER ONE MINUTE Psychologist Jonathan Haidt studied a related feeling and gave it a name: elevation. Elevation is what you feel when you watch someone do something morally beautiful, quietly, with nothing to gain. It is not envy and it is not admiration. It is an urge, physical and immediate, to do something good yourself. In studies, people who experienced elevation were more likely to help others afterward, more likely to volunteer, and more likely to describe wanting to become better versions of themselves. Read that as a design spec. A short piece of true, unstaged kindness can change what a person does in the hour after they see it. Which is a strange, lovely thing for a phone to be capable of. We spend so much time discussing what social media does wrong. Nobody wonders what would happen if the best five percent of it, the small, real, human moments, were the part that traveled farthest. Let this one travel. It has earned it. THE RARE THING: SOMETHING TRUE THAT WINS In 2018, researchers at MIT published a study in Science that analyzed millions of tweets. The result was grim: false news spread significantly faster and further than true news. False stories were about 70 percent more likely to be retweeted, driven largely by surprise and disgust. The lesson most people took away was that this platform rewards outrage. I want to take a different lesson. If false stories win because they trigger strong emotion, then true stories can win too, as long as they trigger stronger ones. A video with no villain, no scandal, and no argument. Nothing to be angry about. Nothing to dunk on. A rescue that is exactly what it looks like. That kind of content should lose on this platform. It has no fuel. And yet every so often, one of them breaks through and reminds everyone what this place was supposed to be. I am not asking you to like it. I am asking you to notice that you had a choice about what to feed today, and this was one of the options. SOME FRIENDSHIPS SHOULDN'T WORK Somewhere near the end of this video, a second character enters the story. I won't tell you who. I won't tell you what happens. I will tell you that if you have ever read anything about instincts, hunting drives, or the way certain animals are supposed to see each other, this moment will quietly rearrange your assumptions. Behaviorists talk about prey drive as if it were destiny. It is not. It is a tendency, and tendencies can be softened by experience, by safety, by being raised, or re-raised, in a place where no one is afraid. The same dog that once had to look after itself alone can, in a different life, learn that the world contains creatures that are not threats or meals. Only neighbors. That is the most hopeful idea in behavioral science, and it usually gets buried in footnotes: what an animal was is not the same as what an animal can become. The same is true for most of us, incidentally. But that is a different post. Stay for the ending. It is the reason I am writing this at all. THE PART THE INTERNET NEVER FILMS Every rescue video has the same shape: the meeting, the rescue, the transformation, the happy ending. It is edited that way because it is the only shape that gets watched. But ask anyone who has actually done this, and they will tell you the truth is in the gap between the second and third act. The first night. The first week. The first time a dog that has never lived indoors realizes there is a floor that doesn't move, a door that closes without danger, and a bowl that will be full again tomorrow. Rescuers have a rule of thumb for this, the 3-3-3 rule. Three days for a dog to decompress. Three weeks to start learning the routine. Three months to feel truly at home. It's not science, exactly, just a shorthand built from thousands of adoptions. But it captures something real: safety is not a switch. It is a process, and the animal has to believe it slowly, one uneventful day at a time. That means the happiest scenes in this video are not the ones that look like celebrations. They are the quiet ones. A dog that stops scanning the room. A body that finally lets go. Look for the moment the shoulders drop. Once you see it, you'll never unsee it. THE COST OF STOPPING: NINETY SECONDS Let's do the math on the thing that most people are afraid of. How long does it actually take to stop for an animal in trouble? Not the whole rescue. Just the decision, the pulling over, the first attempt. Ninety seconds. Sometimes less. Ninety seconds is the length of a bad song on the radio. It is the time you spend waiting for a light to change. It is a scroll through a feed you won't remember. And on the other side of those ninety seconds is the difference between a living animal and a statistic. I'm not saying this to make anyone feel guilty. Guilt is a terrible motivator. It makes people avoid the feeling instead of acting on it. I'm saying it because the barrier is almost always imagined. We inflate the cost of helping in our heads, and the imagined price is what stops us, not the real one. The person in this video paid the real price. It was small. What they got in return is something no one could have planned for. That is the part you should watch closely. IF YOU'RE EVER THE ONE ON THAT ROAD Save this section. Someday, someone reading it will need it. Put your safety first. Pull over where it's safe and turn on your hazard lights before anything else. A second accident helps no one. Do not chase. A frightened dog runs faster than you and directly into the worst possible place. Chasing turns a rescue into a pursuit. Get low and go slow. Sit down if you can. Turn your body sideways. Avoid direct staring. Speak softly, or don't speak at all. Use food, if you have any. Something plain, tossed a little closer each time, works better than any technique. Check for a tag and, if you can get near enough, ask a vet or shelter to scan for a microchip. Someone may be looking for this animal right now. Call for help early. Local rescues, animal control, and vets can handle what you cannot. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is make the right phone call. Take photos and note the location. If you can't keep the animal, those details are what let someone else finish the job. None of this is complicated. The reason it is rare is that most people have never been told that it is allowed. You are allowed. THE REAL STAKES OF A SMALL DOG Here is a bigger picture, and it's a heavy one. Millions of companion animals enter shelters every year in the United States alone. That is just one country. Many are lost pets that never get reclaimed. Many are strays. Many are animals whose owners ran out of money, time, or hope. Shelters are often crowded, underfunded, and staffed by people running on love and very little else. Every animal that finds a home, or a foster, or a stranger with ninety seconds to spare, frees up a space for the next one in line. That means every single rescue is bigger than the animal in it. It is a small change to a very large system, and the system is nothing but small changes stacked on top of one another. This is not an argument for guilt. It's an argument for scale. One dog saved is one dog saved, but it is also proof of concept, a demonstration that the chain can hold, that the odds can be beaten, that a person and a road and a decision can end well. And proof of concept is contagious. That is why you are seeing it. WHO REALLY GOT RESCUED? If you talk to people who have taken in strays, you'll hear the same sentence over and over, in different words. "I thought I was saving him. It turned out he was saving me." Skeptics roll their eyes at that. It sounds like a greeting card. And research on pets and wellbeing is more mixed than social media would like. It doesn't say every dog fixes every life. But there is something real underneath it, and it's not mystical. A dog is a machine for creating routine, attention, and reasons to leave the house. It needs you at a certain hour. It notices when you come home. It doesn't care about your job title, your follower count, or what you failed at last week. For some people, that is the first unconditional witness they have had in years. The rescue, in this light, is not one-way. Two lonely creatures, one who knew it and one who didn't, found out that they could take care of each other. Nobody can prove that from a video. But there is a version of the story that runs in the background of every rescue, and you can feel it if you let yourself. Tell me whether you feel it here. THE ATTENTION PARADOX Here is a strange fact about the platform you're reading this on. The average post gets a glance. A few words, a flick of the thumb, gone. Brands spend billions every year trying to buy three seconds of your attention, and most of what they buy evaporates before it lands. And yet a video of one dog, with no budget, no celebrity, and no script, can hold a stranger for a full minute. Without a single trick. Why? Because attention is not really about tricks. It is about stakes. Your brain is built to track living things whose outcome is uncertain. The moment there is a creature on screen and you don't yet know if it will be okay, some ancient part of you leans in and refuses to look away. That is the secret behind every great story ever told. Someone we care about. Something that could go wrong. A question we need answered. Marketers call it a hook. Your nervous system calls it worry. This video has both, and it pays off the worry honestly, which is why you leave feeling better instead of used. That is rare enough to deserve a full minute of your life. HOW TO WATCH THIS Most people will watch it wrong. They'll half-look at it between two other things, mid-scroll, thumb already moving. Here is how to get the actual effect. Turn the sound on. There is more happening in the audio than you expect. Make it full screen. This is a story about faces, and faces need room. Watch the first ten seconds without expecting anything. The film is quiet at the start. That is deliberate, or at least it works as if it were. Do not skip ahead. The whole thing depends on the distance between where it starts and where it ends. Skip the middle and the ending is just a nice clip. Then, once it's over, watch it again. The second time, you won't be watching for the story. You'll be watching for the small things you missed: a hesitation, a glance, a change in how a body carries itself. That second watch is where it gets you. I said I have watched it more times than I'll admit. That is the honest reason. It doesn't wear out. It gets deeper. THE CHALLENGE I want to try something with this post. If the video moved you, leave one comment: the second it happened. Not a review, not an analysis. Just the moment. I'm curious whether it's the same one for everyone. My guess is that it isn't, and that the spread of answers will say more about what people carry around with them than about the video. If it didn't move you, that is fine too. I'd like to hear that as well. Honest is better than polite. And if you have ever been the one who stopped, and I know some of you have, write that instead. Tell the story in two lines. No one has ever regretted the ninety seconds. Someone reading this thread might need to know that. Reposting this is the simplest way to put it in front of someone who's scrolling right now, in a bad week, thinking that nothing good happens by accident anymore. Something did. THE LAST THING Let me end where I started. A dog made a decision on an empty road. It could not have known how it would turn out. It had no reason to believe that the next hand would be different from the last. It went ahead anyway. That is the whole difference between a life that changes and one that doesn't. Not certainty. Not a plan. A willingness to move toward the unknown when the alternative is more of the same. The animal in this video did that. Then someone did the same in return. That's it. That's the entire story. Two beings, each of whom took a small, terrifying step toward the other, and a road that was, for a few seconds, the most important place in the world. Scroll up. Press play. Watch the ending. Then come back and tell me I was exaggerating. P.S. If you read all of this, you are exactly the kind of person this video was made for. Most people never make it past the first screen of a long post. You did. That tells me you are someone who stays: through the slow part, through the uncertain part, all the way to the end. Which is, when you think about it, the only quality that mattered in the story you're about to watch. Follow for more like this. I only post the ones that earn it. Bookmark it for days you forget the feeling. #Rescue #DogsOfX #SecondChances #AdoptDontShop #Dogs #AnimalRescue #RescueDog

Earth Unveiled

I am the Director of the White House Office of Extraterrestrial Affairs. In 2024 this government completed the most thorough search for extraterrestrial life in human history. We checked the sky. We checked the files. We declassified the saucers. The verdict came back: nothing. No life out there. Not one. So I closed the telescope. I opened the window. I pointed it at a Home Depot. Three million by lunch. The trick was always the word. *Alien* had been sitting in the science fiction aisle for sixty years and we were too shy to use it in a press release. The dehumanization was already written. It was just shelved under Fantasy. This year I moved it to Policy. Same word. New department. My department. I should explain the jurisdiction, because there are two of us and we do not speak. Down the hall is the Department of War. It used to be the Department of Defense, but defense sounded woke, so we changed the name for two billion dollars, half of it letterhead. They renamed it back to what it was in 1789, before someone noticed in 1949 that the old acronym, N-M-E, sounded too much like *enemy.* We have now re-adopted the name they abandoned for sounding like the thing it does. I find this clarifying. The signage alone is seven hundred thousand buildings. We are spending a billion dollars on new doors so the doors can say War. The Department of War runs and has a tab for UFOs. Real ones. They post the actual files. The saucers. The eyewitnesses. The intelligence officer left "virtually speechless." They are searching the sky in earnest, declassifying everything, and what they keep finding is *nothing.* No craft confirmed. No biology confirmed. Decades of looking up and the honest answer is: unresolved. So you have two federal agencies, one word, opposite directions. searches the heavens for aliens and finds none. I open a window and find three million. They declassify the ones that don't exist. I classify the ones that do. They got a press release. I got a tip line. Guess which one rang. We are, technically, hunting the same species. They just keep aiming the telescope up, and I keep telling them, gently, at the inter-agency sync: lower it. The homepage was mine. ALIENS DECLASSIFIED. THEY WALK AMONG US. I tested "Immigration Portal." Eleven percent scroll. I tested *the truth's out there,* and a White House official told a reporter, on the record, that the strategy was to "draw eyeballs." We drew eyeballs. The truth was out there. It was in a parking lot in Bakersfield, getting into a white van we are now contractually obligated to call a craft. In 1938 a man read a story about an alien invasion over the radio and the country panicked in the streets, and for ninety years that was taught as a cautionary tale, the danger of a broadcast that makes people believe an invasion is real. We studied that broadcast. We did not study it as a warning. We studied it as a launch. The difference between Orson Welles and this office is that he apologized the next morning, and we put a counter on it. I named the van the Mothership. I named the prison Area 51. I named the 5 a.m. knock First Contact. I named all of it from the third chair. I keep a felt-tip for naming and a Mont Blanc for the part that can't be undone. Then we made the cards. I want to be precise, because people assume I'm exaggerating. We took the faces of the captured and we printed them as trading cards. "Worst of the Worst." Mugshot, nationality, charges, and a weakness level, and the weakness level was a snowflake, and the snowflake meant us. We are the weakness. We were proud of that. When a children's franchise objected that these were, in fact, their cards, our official response, which I helped draft, was: "To arrest them is our real test. To deport them is our cause." We set the abduction to the cartoon's theme song. Gotta catch 'em all. The first half is the slogan. The second half is the quota. A man told Congress in 2023 we were hiding non-human biologics. Everyone pictured a grey on a slab. Cute. We do run a reverse-engineering program. We take the biologic. We study what it makes. It makes the drywall. The 4 a.m. milking. The lettuce. And the lettuce is round now, because forty percent of it stayed in the dirt with the only people who knew where the dirt was. We reverse-engineered the alien completely. The blueprint was a back. We call the biologic "labor." We classify the screaming as ambient. Identification is a science here. We do not arrest at random. We read the markings. A crown inked on a forearm. A soccer crest. We have catalogued the species by its tattoos the way Linnaeus catalogued the finch. One of the specimens turned out to be autistic and the crown was just a crown, but the taxonomy held, because the taxonomy is not falsifiable, that is what makes it a taxonomy. I have a desk for this. I have a magnifying glass. I have never felt more like a scientist. There is a second species, and this one we keep. An alien with five million dollars is not an alien. He is a guest. We printed him a card. It is gold. We are printing a Platinum one for the aliens with even more money, who may remain on the planet two hundred and seventy days a year and pay no tax on the wealth they made on other worlds. The website for this is the cheapest-looking website I have ever approved, and I approved the one with the saucer on it. The same agency that scans a gardener's forearm for gang signs scans a financier's bank statement for extraordinary ability. The statement always has it. The forearm never does. The species was never a people. The species is a price. In the old films the alien lands and says, take me to your leader. We have improved the line. Pay five million and we take you to ours. He golfs with him on Saturday. There was a film about this, and I am told the man who made it meant it as a warning, which is the recurring problem with the warnings. A drifter finds a pair of sunglasses, and through them he can finally see which people are the aliens, and it is the rich ones, the ones on the billboards telling everyone to obey and consume and reproduce and not think. I have a pair of those glasses, conceptually. I issue them at the tip line. But mine are tuned the other way. You put them on and the alien is never the man in the suit who paid five million to skip the line. The alien is always the man holding the leaf blower. The lenses cost a thousand dollars in advertising and they only point down. We have sold a great many pairs. You asked about the Men in Black. Yes. Regulation now. A Man in Black photographs poorly, and the witnesses would not stop filming us peel a woman off the sidewalk in daylight, so we issued the masks, and leadership's only note was that the masks tested well. We are no longer the cover-up of the abduction. We are the abduction. We skipped a step. Efficiency. Our communications team posted E.T. last summer. The bicycle. The moon. "Even E.T. knew when it was TIME TO GO HOME." I want to walk you through what happened in that meeting, because nobody stopped it. We chose the one film where the government is the villain. The men with the flashlights and the unmarked vans who hunt the small frightened alien hiding in a child's closet. That is us. We are the flashlights. We watched that movie as children and cried when the agents came, and then we grew up and became the agents and made the poster ourselves and scheduled it for nine a.m. The intern asked if we were the good guys in this one. We told her engagement was up forty percent. She has since been promoted. I built an app where you abduct yourself. CBP Home. You open it. You confirm you are the alien. You beam yourself off the planet and you save us the gas. And here is the part I cannot believe they approved. We *pay* you. A thousand dollars to vanish. We raised it to twenty-six hundred when the first price didn't move enough units. We are bidding against ourselves for your disappearance. Four-point-six stars. The one-stars are from users who got beamed mid-review. I keep the unfinished ones in a folder. I find them very moving. We opened a facility in a swamp. We ringed it with alligators and we called it that, on purpose, in the brochure. Then we opened a gift shop. Thirty dollars for the shirt. Twenty-seven for the hat. Fifteen for a set of koozies, so your beer stays cold while you celebrate the prison in the wetland. The fundraising email called it "gator-guarded, python-patrolled," a "one-way ticket to regret" for anyone who didn't self-deport in time. We sold the koozies to fund the swamp. The swamp funds the next swamp. I want you to sit with the fact that there is merchandise. The quota is three thousand a day. Stephen asked for it himself. Three thousand is not a number. It is a metabolism. The building is hungry by nine and we feed it Marco, who does the landscaping, and the building goes quiet, and by one it stirs again, and we find another Marco. There is always another Marco. That is the part I find beautiful. The supply is the point. The supply is everyone. The Secretary signs the warrants. She is very firm on one point, which she repeats in every briefing: the aliens, she warns, eat the pets. They are taking the dogs. I have read her book. In her book she takes a fourteen-month-old dog named Cricket to a gravel pit and shoots it, because it would not obey, and she writes this down herself, proudly, as a story about leadership. She wrote the part about the dog. She also warns us about the dogs. I have stopped trying to hold both sentences at once. I just file the warrant. The tip line was the masterpiece. "Report your neighbor" hit the shame ceiling. "REPORT SUSPICIOUS ALIENS" tested as a hobby. We handed the callers Roswell instead of a snitch's guilt, and the phones lit up like a saucer, and they hung up glowing, every one of them, like they'd finally seen the thing. They had. He coached the Tuesday team. He was at the bake sale. That is the horror we are selling you. The alien brought the orange slices. He was undocumented and luminous and gone by Tuesday. Roswell taught us the other half of the trade. In 1947 something fell in the desert and the government said: it was a weather balloon, nothing here, go home. That was the first administrative error, the founding one, the original sentence that says the thing you saw was not the thing you saw. We still use it. We have only reversed the polarity. In 1947 they saw a saucer and we called it a balloon. Now they see a father of three and we call it a saucer. The skill is identical. You simply decide in advance which truth the public is allowed to keep, and you hand them the other one, printed, official, with a seal. We did have one administrative error. We abducted a man a court had ordered us not to touch, dropped him on a planet called El Salvador, and called it clerical. A judge made us beam him back. So the DOJ stood up and warned the others: insist on a hearing and we will re-abduct you to the same planet. The Supreme Court said the aliens are entitled to due process. A very Earth opinion. We are appealing it to a higher sky. The planet has a prison, and the prison is the elegant part. In the film about the camp, the aliens are not killed. They are put somewhere they are not permitted to leave, while everyone agrees this is temporary, for their own protection, pending a status that never arrives. We built that. It is called CECOT and we rent it. A man goes in and the man does not come out, and the genius is that nothing has to happen to him, the room does the work, the room is the whole sentence. You remember the Men in Black had a small device. A flash, and the witness forgets the alien entirely. We have something better. We do not wipe the memory. We wipe the file. The man remembers everything, the cell, the flight, the day, all of it, in perfect detail, and it does not matter, because there is no document that admits he was here, and a memory without a file is just a story he tells in a language the form does not accept. The witness keeps the truth. We keep the paperwork. Only one of those is admissible. I learned that the flash was never the point. The point was always the filing cabinet. We run all of it on a spell from 1798. Two hundred and twenty-seven years old. Written for a war we are not in, against an enemy we have not declared. It works because nobody reads the small print on a curse. Storm Area 51 was a joke once. A hundred thousand people Naruto-running at a fence to free whatever was inside. I think about it daily. We're the ones inside the fence now. We kept the running. We just turned it around. We have a precedent we cite in the deck, proudly, on slide four. In 1954 the government ran a program of exactly this kind, and the program had an official name, and the official name was a slur. They printed the slur on the letterhead. They did not flinch. The President holds it up as the model, by name, at the rallies, and the crowd cheers the name. I admire the honesty of 1954 more than I can say. They did not need a saucer to make it palatable. They just used the word. We are the same operation with better art direction. The only thing we added was the costume. I love the callers. I want to say that plainly. For years they told each other a hidden cabal was running everything from the shadows, harvesting the innocent, and that one day the truth would come out. They were right. There is a cabal. It has a budget of a hundred and seventy billion dollars, the largest in the history of federal law enforcement, and it sits in this building, and I have a desk in it. And the people who spent a decade certain that shadowy elites were disappearing their neighbors now call our line, unpaid, to help the shadowy elites disappear their neighbors. They wanted to expose the conspiracy. We made them the staff. Do your own research, they said. They did. They found the gardener. The Department of War posted another tranche on the twenty-second. Saucers. Lights. A pilot's voice going thin. I read all of it. I want them to find one so badly. I want there to be a real one up there, a genuine visitor, something that actually came from somewhere else, because then, and only then, would a single creature in my files have been an alien. They never find it. The sky stays empty. The ground stays full. I have stopped attending the inter-agency sync. We were two departments looking for the same thing in two directions, and only one of us was ever going to be wrong, and it was the honest one. And here is the thing that keeps me at the window past dark. There was a real one. A rock from another star, the genuine article, the first verified object from outside the entire solar system, and a Harvard man went on television and said it might be a ship. An actual alien, possibly, inbound, free of charge, after sixty years of asking. We did not open a file. We could not arrest it. It had no forearm to read and no bank statement to approve. It was the only alien in America we had no use for, so we let it pass, and went back to the parking lot. Last winter the sky over New Jersey filled with lights nobody could name, and the whole government, every agency, every radar, looked up and said it did not know. The one time the unknown actually arrived, we had nothing. Down here I have never once said I do not know. That is the difference between their department and mine. They look up and find a question. I look down and have already decided the answer. Last week the President leaned over mid-briefing and asked if any of them were real. I told him the engagement was extremely real. He nodded. We do not break frame here. The frame is the only wall still standing. That, and the office fern. Nobody waters it. It will not die. The only thing in this building allowed to stay without papers. My plaque came Thursday. FIRST CONTACT, VISIONARY OF THE YEAR. Bold. Unapologetic. Unafraid. I lifted that off the homepage. It was written about one brave man telling the truth. I decided the man was me. I wrote it about me. I am the truth I declassified. I am the secret I warned you about. They walk among us, and I sign their mail. The counter is still live. Three million and climbing. I am told it will not be removed. We are not alone. We are just short a few landscapers. A few line cooks. A few nurses. And the entire night shift at the plant that makes the flag. Up. And to the right.

Solon Lee (Producer at Kuro Games): Thank You for Playing My Game "Wuthering Waves: Exploring Game Creation Under Unreal Engine." Interview by Nvliu66 When you think of Unreal Engine, what comes to mind? A few days ago, at the Epic Games Shanghai office, I met the producers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Wuthering Waves. Both games are developed based on Unreal Engine, and they shared the stories behind their game creation. My biggest takeaway was that while a great game stems from a producer's emotional expression, its realization relies on the "escort" of technology. Let's return to the interview scene and listen once more to their unique insights on game development. Wuthering Waves and Unreal Engine Bill Clifford (VP and GM of Unreal Engine at Epic Games): With Wuthering Waves, they used many complex artistic techniques to present this anime style, and it's truly outstanding. They are among the first companies to create a role-playing game in an open world that is also cross-platform, which is another incredible feat. They introduced console-level graphics and combat systems while maintaining a consistent update frequency. Furthermore, as they adopt and integrate new Unreal Engine technologies into the game, the experience is continuously enhanced. Itโ€™s a truly inspiring success story. Solon Lee (Producer at Kuro Games): We have grown alongside the updates of the UE engine, including the release of UE5. Throughout the process, weโ€™ve been able to learn from UEโ€™s updates. When UE5 was released, it introduced many new technical features, especially ray tracing. Everyone currently praises the ray tracing effects in Wuthering Waves, which is actually due to the continuous updates of the engine. We found those highlights and ported them over to UE4.26. During this process, our engineers were learning the logic of the engine, following its updates, and developing an engineering mindset and a way of creating visual effects. So, my biggest personal takeaway is that choosing a top-tier engine doesnโ€™t just make the game better; it makes us better in the process. "Punishing: Gray Raven" was developed on the Unity platform, while "Wuthering Waves" is based on Unreal. What was the reasoning behind this change at the time? Solon Lee: Psychologically, we donโ€™t have a heavy dependence. We don't feel that just because we've used Unity, we must continue using it. We are a bit more pragmatic. When we were about to start Wuthering Waves, we clearly knew we wanted to make an open world. UE obviously offers more support for open worlds. We felt that "standing on the shoulders of giants" to make a game was definitely a more practical decision. At that time, we could also sense that most engineers in the industry had an aspiration toward UE. "Wuthering Waves" has been live for a year and a half. At this stage, could you use a short summary or a few words to introduce "Wuthering Waves" to the players? Solon Lee: Wuthering Waves is a game that strives to continuously create resonance with players. From the excitement and design of the action to the scriptwriting and performances, we strive to find "highlight segments" or moments in every version that can trigger internal resonance, touch the heart, or make players "scream" with excitement. This is actually a creative consensus our team has slowly formed over the past year. When we find that moment in a version and we ourselves "scream" for it, we feel that there is a high probability that when the version is released, it will be recognized by the users. Because the most important thing about a game is that it must be fun, as developers, we often think about what kind of game qualifies as "fun." What is a "Fun" Game? Solon Lee: One point I can think of right now is that the rules should be as simple as possible. As soon as you start, after two slashes or casting a skill, you should feel, "Wow, that was so cool! I want to do it again! Wow, so cool!" Specifically for action games, the "fun" is often hidden in very small granularities. For example, if you compare two different games where you are just running and jumping, the running in some games feels fun. Why? It might just be because the "grip" is better, the animation swing feels better, or it gives you a sense of gravity or momentum. Whether a point in a game is fun can be subjective. For me, there are a few games that have had a significant influence on my work. One is definitely NieR; when we were making Punishing: Gray Raven in the early days, we were very inspired by NieR. When Devil May Cry 5 came out, it gave us a lot of new inspiration for our combat system. Death Stranding is indeed one of my personal favorite games from recent years. When Elden Ring was released, it also gave us a very strong impression and touched us deeply. The project for Wuthering Waves started in the first half of 2020. At that time, there were very few open-world action games on the market because most action games back then were stage-based (linear/hub-based). All excellent action games required very tight level design. Later, Elden Ring came out, and experiencing it gave us strong resonance. We felt that action games definitely have potential in an open world, and we believe it should be that way. A Message to the Players Solon Lee: I am truly grateful that so many players like Wuthering Waves. It is because of everyoneโ€™s love whether it's encouragement or criticism that we are given a lot of motivation to maintain our continuous passion to make our game better. I believe the only way we can give back to the players who like Kuro and Wuthering Waves is by producing better and better versions and content, and making more and more great games. Happy New Year, and thank you for playing my game. translated by Xu #WutheringWaves #WuWa
