Jerry Seinfeld says he regrets claiming the extreme left suppressed comedy. Jerry Seinfeld: I did an interview with The New Yorker. Tom Papa: Mhm. Jerry Seinfeld: And I said that the extreme left has suppressed the art of comedy. Tom Papa: Mhm. Jerry Seinfeld: I did say that. Tom Papa: Yeah. Jerry Seinfeld: That’s not true. (laughs) It’s not true. Tom Papa: No? Jerry Seinfeld: No. Again, you want to go back. Let’s go back to our solid, liquid analogy. Tom Papa: Okay. Jerry Seinfeld: And the other thing that I have said about this: if you’re Lindsey Vonn, if you’re a champion skier… Tom Papa: Uh-huh. Jerry Seinfeld: …you can put the gates anywhere you want on the mountain. She’s going to make the gate. Tom Papa: Right. Jerry Seinfeld: That’s comedy. Tom Papa: Mhm. Jerry Seinfeld: Whatever the culture is, we make the gate. Tom Papa: Mhm. Jerry Seinfeld: You don’t make the gate, you’re out of business. That’s your job. You make the gate. The culture moves. People are different. They react differently. Your job is to make the gate. If you can’t make the gate, get another job. That’s what I think. That’s how I feel about it now.

Aubrey Plaza revealed that while filming, Nick Offerman reminded her she could get her own coffee instead of asking a production assistant. Aubrey Plaza: I remember I was just sitting in my little chair and wasn’t doing anything for a while. One of the PAs came up and said, “Do you need anything?” I was like, “Uh, sure. I’d take a coffee,” or something. Then Nick was sitting next to me reading a book or something, and he looked over and said, “Don’t forget that you can get up and get your own coffee. It’s right over there.” Amy Poehler: (laughs) Aubrey Plaza: I know that sounds kind of like an asshole thing to say, but I didn’t take it like that. I was like, “You’re fucking right.” Amy Poehler: Yeah. Aubrey Plaza: I was like, “I don’t need that little PA over there to walk over there, in my eyesight, and pour me a cup of coffee.” You get in that zone on set where you just turn into a couch potato, where you’re like, “Uh…”

Seth Rogen said rich people used to spend their fortunes building things everyone could use. Seth Rogen: Maybe this is like naive of me, but it seems like these rich people who are like, had outsized wealth, it seems like they used to like to have their names on things Keanu Reeves: Libraries, that were like public... Seth Rogen: able to be used by the public. Keanu Reeves: National parks. You know what I mean? Yeah, parks... Seth Rogen: ...parks, observatories, libraries, museums, you know, things like that. And now it's like, people don't do that stuff anymore.

Seth Rogen reveals The Interview used a real tiger because the CGI was too expensive, then the tiger wrangler started asking terrifying questions I did a movie called The Interview about North Korea, and there’s a scene with a tiger. I directed the movie with my partner, and we wrote this scene where there’s a tiger. I thought in my head it would be CG. Life of Pi had come out recently, and I was like, “We’ll get the Life of Pi tiger. Put us down for one Life of Pi.” They were like, “We can’t afford that at all. We’ve got to get a real tiger.” I was like, “Oh God.” So we found a tiger wrangler in Calgary, and we had a call with him. It was so funny because he was the least confidence inspiring person you’ve ever spoken to in your entire life. I asked, “Where’d you get the tiger?” He said, “From a stripper.” We were like, “What?” He said, “She had a tiger cub as part of her act, and it got too big, so she had to get rid of it.” We asked, “Where does a stripper get a tiger?” He said, “It’s easier than you think. You could get one.” We had sent him the script, and he said, “Let’s go over the scene. You’re not shooting this at night, are you?” I said, “Yeah, the scene is set at night.” He said, “Ooh.” I asked, “Why is that bad?” He said, “Well, they hunt at night.” He asked, “Can it be during the day?” We said, “No. Is that okay?” There was a long pause, and he said, “Yeah, it’s okay. I think it’s okay.” Then he asked, “It won’t be in a big open area, will it?” We said, “Yeah, it’s basically a giant meadow.” He said, “Ooh.” We asked, “Is that bad?” He said, “Well, if there’s a deer or something, they will go after it.” We said, “That’s bad. Should we not do this?” He said, “No, it’s fine.” Then he asked, “It won’t be raining, will it?” We said, “Yeah. We’re filming in Vancouver in the winter. It will be raining.” He said, “Oh, that’s not good.” We asked, “Why?” He said, “The rain really agitates them. They just don’t like the rain.” We asked, “Should we not do it?” He said, “No, it’s fine. It’ll be fine.”

Jerry Seinfeld apologizes after realizing he hurt Adam Carolla’s feelings by refusing to look at his Porsche. Jerry Seinfeld: He came up to me and said, “Hey, my 935 is here. I want you to see it.” Adam Carolla: Mm-hmm. Jerry Seinfeld: I thought, for me to get to where his car was, I’d have to move through a lot of people. I was already dealing with a lot of people. At a big Porsche event, I get a lot of interaction, which is great. I love meeting people and I love the fans. Adam Carolla: You’re a very recognizable guy. You’ve been in the public eye for a long time. People recognize you at any airport. But if you go to a Porsche event… Jerry Seinfeld: It amps it up. Adam Carolla: It amps it up. The recognition factor is off the charts. Jerry Seinfeld: So I said, “Why do I have to see your car? What does it do for the car if I look at it? Nothing. It doesn’t add value. All that’s going to happen is I’ll walk over and say, ‘Hey, that’s cool.’” Adam Carolla: I know. Jerry Seinfeld: And I thought, if he needs that, what kind of comedian needs that kind of recognition? So I said, “I don’t need to do that.” Adam Carolla: I’ve been saying for years they should brick up the Louvre. What does it do for the Mona Lisa if you look at it? Jerry Seinfeld: Yeah, but you do get it. You want the recognition of saying, “I have this.” I’m the opposite. I’m not a “look at what I have” guy like a lot of car guys are. Adam Carolla: Right. Jerry Seinfeld: I’m very low-key. I never like to show my stuff. I do it for me. I enjoy it. There’s a whole show-off segment of the car community that I don’t love being around. Adam Carolla: Yeah. They’re called most car guys. Jerry Seinfeld: I thought I was just being smart-alecky and funny when I said, “I don’t want to see your car.” But I later saw Adam talking about it, and I realized I had hurt his feelings. I felt terrible, and I wanted to come here and apologize for trying to be funny in a way that came off as nasty.

Will Ferrell reveals the Talladega Nights dinner scene took all day to film because the entire crew couldn’t stop laughing. Is it sad that I laugh that much at my own stuff? Yeah. Of course, it makes sense that they would pray before having a meal, but the fact that Ricky’s obsessed with the baby Jesus and to just follow that thread to the end. And shooting those kind of scenes around a dinner table or lunch table, it’s painstaking. That took all day for maybe a two-minute, two-and-a-half-minute scene. We were having so much fun. I remember feeding lines to the kids, and the camera operator was laughing so hard he called cut himself. He was like, “I’m sorry, it’s so unprofessional. I can’t stop laughing, and I don’t think you can use that take. The camera’s just bouncing.” And because we just kept feeding every line we could think of… What’s funny about that is I’ve now been sent sermons from pastors at churches who have taken excerpts of that scene and presented it to their congregation, and that stuff’s just really cool. We were also having fun in our own way with the gross exploitation of product placements and how they had to mention endorsements in a family prayer, as if anyone was watching.

Kevin Costner said he didn’t want to speak publicly after Whitney Houston died because he felt their relationship was “just a movie.” Kevin Costner: What happened was, it was a thing I didn't want to do. When Whitney passed, the microphone was going around for a, for a week, that everybody getting on TV talking about her. And I'm thinking, "Jesus, the last thing I want to do is get on a radio and talk about her." Uh, after all, it was just a movie really. And, but there was this weird thing that I didn't take into consideration. I think sometimes, maybe you and I can miss what the real momentum is, that we don't really gauge it because we either intellectually dismiss it or we just don't care, but people wanted to hear what I had to say about her, which baffled me. It was a, it was a make-believe relationship we had. And so I avoided it.

LeBron James: I don't recommend anybody go to Miami at 25. LeBron James: If you don't have... (laughs) Yeah, you gotta have a strong mindset. Uh yeah, I had it. I had a strong mindset. I don't recommend people to go to Miami at 25. Yeah. Yeah.

Oprah Winfrey reveals she goes by Oprah instead of her birth name Orpah because people kept mispronouncing it. Keke Palmer: I found out that your name… it was originally Orpah? Oprah Winfrey: It was Orpah, from the Bible. Ruth, first chapter, 14th verse. Keke Palmer: (gasps) Oprah Winfrey: You know, it’s that whole Ruth and Naomi story. And, you know, Ruth said, “Wherever thou goest, I will go,” and then Orpah said, “I’m going back. I’m sorry, I can’t…” (laughs) “…too long. The road’s too long.” Keke Palmer: Now, what made you go to Oprah? Oprah Winfrey: It’s not what made me, I was a kid! And nobody knew how to spell it. So it turned out, on my birth certificate, it’s O-R-P-A-H. And then people started calling me Oprah. And so, it’s just the difference between the “P” being before the “R” or after the “R”. So once they started with Oprah, that’s it. I didn’t learn until I was like, probably 20 or something that, “Oh, this isn’t really my name. My name is Orpah.” Keke Palmer: And it’s still on your birth certificate as Orpah? Oprah Winfrey: As Orpah. Keke Palmer: Wow. We have so much in common, because I’m actually Eeky. Oprah Winfrey: Eeky? I thought you were Lauren Keyana… Keke Palmer: (laughs) That’s stupid… Yes! You knew my middle name! Oprah Winfrey: Your middle name. Keke Palmer: That is… I’m so happy you knew that! Oprah Winfrey: You know how I know that? Keke Palmer: How? Oprah Winfrey: TED Talk!

Seth Rogen jokes that Apple is okay with snorting “cocaine” off an iPhone, but won’t let a bad guy own one in a movie. Seth Rogen: …on Apple. It’s amazing that the biggest corporation in the history of the world has invested in me in any capacity. Seth Meyers: I know! It doesn’t seem like a fit. Seth Rogen: No, it doesn’t, and I agree. Even working with them, I was like, “I can’t imagine that our brand of humor is going to fly with these people.” (laughs) I remember reading the scripts for Platonic, and there’s literally a scene in the first season where we’re snorting cocaine and ketamine off an iPhone. I remember thinking, “I don’t know if Apple’s going to be cool with this.” But Apple let it happen. They let it happen. And I’m not saying you should snort cocaine off an iPhone, I’m just saying it is technically the perfect cocaine-snorting surface. Seth Meyers: I know. I’m glad they let that happen, because every now and then there’s an Apple show where there’s a real high-tech bad guy who’s got a flip phone, and I’m like, “All right.” Seth Rogen: Exactly. They don’t like murderers to have iPhones. (laughs) They don’t like that. They don’t like it if you damage them. There’s some weird stuff. Seth Meyers: I will say they’ve told us a little bit about themselves. They’re like, “No, we’re good with that ketamine scene.” Seth Rogen: “Oh, we’re okay with ketamine, but you just can’t smoke cigarettes on an Apple TV+ show.” (laughs) You can snort cocaine, but no cigarettes. Seth Meyers: What an interesting time we live in. Seth Rogen: Comedically, I’ll take it.

Aubrey Plaza compares the grief of losing her husband to a horror movie. Amy Poehler: You lost your husband. Aubrey Plaza: Yeah. Amy Poehler: You’ve been dealing with that, and you’ve been looking for all different ways in which to feel and find support. And I think I would, on behalf of all the people who feel like they know you and the people who do know you, ask: how are you feeling today? Aubrey Plaza: Um, I’m… I mean, right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Amy Poehler: Mhm. Aubrey Plaza: Um, I feel… overall, I’m here, and I’m functioning, and I feel, you know, like I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. Amy Poehler: Mhm. Aubrey Plaza: I think, like, I’m okay, but, you know, it’s like a daily struggle, obviously. This is like a really dumb analogy, but… and it was kind of a joke at some point, but like, I actually mean it. Did you see that movie, The Gorge? Amy Poehler: No. Aubrey Plaza: Okay. Amy Poehler: Horror movie? Aubrey Plaza: It’s like a sci-fi alien movie or something. Amy Poehler: Okay, okay, okay. Aubrey Plaza: With, like, Miles… Amy Poehler: Teller? Aubrey Plaza: Teller. And, um… but it’s like, in the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side, and then there’s like a cliff on the other side, and then there’s this, like, gorge in between, and it’s like filled with all these, like, monster people that are trying to get them. And, like, I swear when I watched it, I was like, “That feels like what my grief is like,” or what grief could be like, where it’s like, at all times, there’s like a giant ocean of just awfulness that’s, like, right there, and I can, like, see it. Amy Poehler: Mhm. Aubrey Plaza: And, like, sometimes I just want to, like, dive into it and just be in it. And then sometimes I just look at it. And then sometimes I try to get away from it… Amy Poehler: Mhm. Aubrey Plaza: …but it’s always there. It’s just always there, and the monster people are trying to get me, like Miles Teller. Amy Poehler: Yeah. And… and, uh, Anya… Aubrey Plaza: And Anya Taylor-Joy. Amy Poehler: Yeah.

Kevin Costner said he left Yellowstone over scheduling conflicts after staying for five seasons instead of the three he originally agreed to. Kevin Costner: I'm not in it. I was in it for five years. I guess I could be in it again if, um, if the planets wanted to line up, which means the storyline, the script. And then, I want to work more than once a year. Um, and to do that, the times have to be set aside for things. And when that couldn't happen, then that can't work for me anymore. Howard Stern: Well, that's a ballsy move. I mean, what a great show, what a great character you developed. Kevin Costner: That was great. Kevin Costner: Yeah, Cole is fabulous. And Kelly was great, and it was perfect. Look, I love this, I love the show. I went and sold it for them before it was a show. Taylor wrote a beautiful script. I went overseas, I stared at 300 people, and they go, "What is the show?" And I said, "I don't know. I think it could be good." "Are you going to be in it?" I said, "Uh..." I said, "I'll be in it for three years, but then I'm not sure." But I said this, "I think it's good."

Iman Shumpert: So, I'm probably two, three checks in. Looking at my account, I can't go broke. It's no way I'm going broke. But the difference was, one, my brother always, him and my financial advisor have been taking half my check the whole time. So, I never knew how much money I had. There were some test screenings beforehand that didn't go so well. Seth Rogen: Oh God. Keke Palmer: Really? Keanu Reeves: Having that, going into the next step of the release, really set up like, we don't know how this is going to go. Aziz Ansari: Wow. Keke Palmer: Wow. Caleb Hammer schooled a guest on how taxes work in America, explaining that the U.S. has one of the most progressive tax systems. Caleb: Question, what percent does the top 1% pay in federal income taxes? Guest: None. (Brief silence) Caleb: Think it's about 40 to 50 percent? No, I think it's about... I believe it's about 35%. Then the top 10% pays 50 to 60%. Top 50% pays 99%. The bottom 50% of earners only pay 1%. Did you know we actually have the most progressive income tax system in the entire Western world? Did you know that? Guest: I did not. Caleb: Oh, we do. Of course you didn't know that. Why know anything before having an opinion? What the fuck is wrong with you?

Seth Rogen revealed he and Keke Palmer smoked real weed on set because the fake stuff wasn’t convincing. Seth Rogen: What is Seth Rogen's favorite strain of weed? Keke Palmer: Ooh. Keke Palmer: But by the end of the scene, man, I didn't even know if I was Keke Palmer or who I was. Seth Rogen: I don't know what was happening. We smoked like so many joints during that. Keke Palmer: That was crazy! Seth Rogen: That was a lot. That was wild. That was why you don't smoke real weed on set. Keke Palmer: [Laughs] Seth Rogen: I was glad it was you. I was glad it was you. Anyone else, it would've really spun me out.

Seth Rogen said a note was put in his passport upon arriving in Singapore that read, “If we find drugs on you, we will execute you.” Seth Rogen: ...I was doing press in Singapore. I had to go. It was for work. Howard Stern: I mean, I would have said to the studio, "Listen, I'll do anything you want. I'll go to every country on this planet, but I'm not going to Singapore because they will cane me!" And there's a chance that some dog will sniff a roach or something, and then I'll be fucked.
