⚽ 🚉 NJ Transit access at Penn Station will reportedly be closed off to everyone except World Cup ticketholders before soccer matches this summer. Only ticketholders will be able to travel to New Jersey from the station in the four hours before the start of eight World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium, according to which obtained a document detailing the plans. The matches will happen on weekdays and weekends in June and July, including on June 16, June 22, June 26 and June 30, according to reports. Neither FIFA nor NJ Transit have confirmed the report, but they also haven’t denied it. More than 130,000 commuters use NJT in and out of Penn Station every day, and the goal of the plan is to safely get thousands of fans to and from the stadium. Additionally, no one will be able to park at MetLife Stadium for any of the games. 🍋 🥚 A Bronx supermarket owner says dozens of food vendors have taken over the area outside his store, putting his business on the brink of closure. Marvin Cruz, the owner of Food Fair Fresh Supermarket in Fordham, said he’s counted up to 30 vendors around Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue. “They don’t have no refrigeration, and they’re selling multiple different items,” he said. “I’ve even seen vendors selling eggs, not refrigerated. A mess of box. They’re blocking the sidewalk. They don’t pick up their garbage.” “When you’re passing by a supermarket and you see all this vending, all these tables set up on the street and tons of boxes, you don’t feel even safe to get out,” he said. He said he’s gone from 100 employees to 65 employees and that his business could shut down. Cruz said repeated calls to city for help and a crackdown are going unanswered. “We love the community. We invested in the community. We want to be part of the community. We need help,” he said. 🎤 glenn schuck reports 📸 Marvin Cruz 🔊 Tune into 1010 WINS at 92.3 FM for more local news #nyc #newyorkcity #nycnews #thebronx #nycnews #business #smallbusiness

🛒 Walgreens is piloting body-worn cameras for some of its workers in New York City. The pharmacy chain has dozens of stores in the five boroughs, and it’s unclear which locations will have employees testing out the cameras. Outside a Walgreens in Downtown Brooklyn on Wednesday, New Yorkers had mixed reactions, though many were supportive of the move. “I could see the rationale,” one man said. “As a customer, it doesn’t really bother me if it enhances security.” Another man was worried about bias, saying, “I don’t like to be monitored. I don’t like to be able to walk in the store and they going to watch me every time I go in, thinking I’m going to steal.” “Because we live in a crazy world, I have no problem,” a woman said. Walgreens said it’s not using the cameras to prevent theft but rather to deescalate conflict and keep employees safe. “Walgreens is piloting the voluntary use of body-worn cameras in select stores to help promote the safety of both customers and team members,” said a spokesperson. “Body cameras can help de-escalate conflicts, ultimately contributing to a safer environment for everyone. We understand the importance of protecting customer privacy and have safeguards in place to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations,” the spokesperson said. The pilot comes as the City Council considers bills that would severely limit biometric technology that is already in use at large retailers like Macy’s and Wegmans. 🎤 Marla Diamond reports 📸 Marla Diamond, Richard Pohle - WPA Pool/Getty Images, Spencer Platt/Getty Images 🔊 Tune into 1010 WINS at 92.3 FM for more local news #nyc #newyorkcity #nycnews #brooklyn #downtownbrooklyn #walgreens #bodycam #security #nyccrime

🍰 Caputo's Bake Shop in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, closed this week after 124 years. "It just came to a point where I said it's time for me, it's time for my family," said owner James Caputo. James is the fifth and final owner in the family. The first was in 1902. The fourth owner, John, said, "I am happy, and I have some sad feelings." 🚨 The NYPD commissioner disbanded the narcotics team involved in last week’s beating of a man who detectives had mistaken for a suspect in Brooklyn. At least eight officers have been reassigned after the eight-minute video of the beating and arrest went viral and sparked outrage. Three members were placed on modified assignments, including the officers involved in the arrest. The Rev. Kevin McCall met with Commissioner Jessica Tisch on Monday for a sit-down. He said he left with assurances from Tisch about oversights of the department's narcotics apprehension teams. He said the commissioner told him that “she saw that the units have gone rogue.” Among the items discussed, McCall said, were “making sure that they have body-worn cameras, making sure that they have radios, and making sure they're not using WhatsApp to communicate with each other.” The meeting stemmed from graphic video showing detectives beating a man, Timothy Brown, at the Brooklyn Wine Depot in Boerum Hill last Tuesday. It turned out it was a case of mistaken identity — he was not the suspect they were after. The charges were dropped. McCall said Mayor Zohran Mamdani also needs to do more. “All he’s doing is smiling and not getting results,” he said. Hawk Newsome, co-founder of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, said there needs to be accountability and that the video is “symptomatic of the NYPD’s narcotics unit.” Gwen Carr, whose activism was sparked by the death of her son Eric Garner at the hands of police in 2014, said she was having déjà vu. “We as New York citizens do not have to take this abuse,” she said. 🎤 Juliet Papa reports 📸 Courtesy of Abelee Moran, Juliet Papa 🔊 Tune into 1010 WINS at 92.3 FM for more local news #nyc #nycnews #brooklyn #boerumhill #nypd #nyccrime #police

New York City has officially suspended alternate side parking until Sunday, a move intended to give frustrated drivers more time to dig their vehicles out from under heavy snow. However, for many residents, the gesture isn't enough, as massive snow mountains continue to block curbs and trap cars more than a week after the storm. While the Mayor Zohran Mamdani maintains that significant progress has been made in the removal efforts, residents like Troy, who frequently rents cars for work, feel the cleanup is moving far too slowly for a city that needs to stay mobile. "I think that they should be removing the snow faster. It's been a week and a half and they're still picking up huge piles," he told 1010 WINS. Many neighbors on West 25th Street in Chelsea also noted the ongoing frustration with the pace of the cleanup, stating that despite the city's urging for citizens to continue shoveling, the volume of remaining snow has left many drivers effectively stranded. 🎤 Marla Diamond reports 📸 Marla Diamond/1010 WINS 🔊 Tune into 1010 WINS at 92.3 FM for more weather updates #newyorkcity #nyc #nycnews #asp #alternatesideparking #snow #snowstorm #chelsea #coldweather #cold
