.Will Muschamp didn't fail at South Carolina because he couldn't recruit—he consistently signed talented classes and brought in NFL-caliber players. The problem was turning that talent into consistent wins. His teams struggled offensively, cycling through coordinators and quarterbacks without ever establishing a reliable identity. Close losses became a recurring theme, with South Carolina repeatedly coming up short in one-score games against SEC opponents. Injuries, particularly at quarterback, also took a toll, but the bigger issue was an inability to develop enough offensive production to complement solid defensive play. Muschamp finished with a 28-30 overall record and 17-22 in SEC play before being dismissed during the 2020 season. While he left Shane Beamer with several key players who helped fuel later success, Muschamp ultimately couldn't produce the consistent winning seasons that South Carolina expected, especially after the high standard established during the Coach Steve Spurrier era.
