⚡️At least 49 civilians killed, over 280 missing, and the 101-year-old St. Gabriel Church burned down in deadly attack on Amhara and Orthodox Christian communities in Aseko Woreda (📍East Arsi Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia) between May 31st and June 3rd. 🔴 According to sources on the ground, armed militants carried out coordinated attacks against Amhara communities and followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church across Teleta-Gabriel, Kuftena, Medhanealem, Bayo Kebele, and surrounding areas. 🔴 The attacks reportedly killed at least 49 civilians, left more than 280 people missing, and destroyed 234 homes, while large quantities of civilian property and livestock were looted. Thousands of residents were forced to flee toward safer areas, including Sunte. 🔴 Among the sites destroyed was the historic 101-year-old St. Gabriel Church in Teleta-Chefa, which was reportedly burned to the ground. Additional structures belonging to Kara-Kufta and Medhanealem church compounds were also destroyed. 🔴 Sources alleged that security forces failed to effectively intervene during the attacks and, in some cases, prevented local security volunteers from reaching affected communities. Several of the victims had been abducted a day earlier and later found dead. Survivors said the attackers specifically targeted Orthodox Christians during the nighttime assault. 🔴 In Enkole-Wabe Woreda, five Orthodox civilians were killed and a church servant from Egziabher-Ab Churchwas abducted in Kakisa Kebele. Fighting intensified following the deployment of OSF commando units to Andode-Dicho Kebele, where regime forces reportedly suffered significant casualties and material losses during clashes. 🔴 In retaliation, regime forces engaged in widespread human-rights violations between December 23rd and 27th, killing at least 19 civilians and injuring several others. Civilians were reportedly burned alive inside their homes and attacked with firearms and bladed weapons.
