Taiz City | Day Three of the Siege | Besieged Taiz continues to fight back, but the pressure on the city and its civilian population is growing. We are receiving reports of fuel shortages, dwindling supplies of baby formula and sharp increases in food prices, with some goods reportedly doubling or tripling in price. Houthi forces now control the main road linking Taiz with Al-Turbah and Aden, effectively severing the city’s primary southern supply route, while Houthi positions surround Taiz from all sides. One resident today reported paying 10,000 Yemeni rials [$6.37] for a small bottle of gasoline. Despite the shortages, civilian support for the front lines continues. Video posted by Taiz resident Sanad Raweh shows a civilian convoy carrying food, water and other supplies from the city to troops at the Air Defense front on Jabal al-Sumoud wal-Tahaddi. Raweh said he visited the front alongside Ali al-Maamari al-Ajar, director general of the Taiz branch of the Yemen Petroleum Company. He described morale among the troops as extremely high and said the civilian effort would continue across other fronts surrounding the city. And they are still fighting. The Yemen National Army’s Taiz Axis المركز الاعلامي لمحور تعز reports that government forces repelled a Houthi assault on the Al-Anin front in Bilad al-Wafi, Jabal Habashi district, west of the city. Government troops backed by local resistance fighters are also reporting intense fighting around Jabal Han. Some of today’s heaviest clashes are being reported across Jabal Habashi and Al-Aqrud, while fighting has intensified across much of the Taiz Axis, particularly in the southern countryside and on the fronts surrounding the city. On the Al-Silw front south of Taiz, government forces say they repelled another Houthi assault, killing 12 Houthi fighters and wounding others. Yemeni military aircraft also reportedly struck Jabal Matran in the Qadas area of Al-Mawasit district. Against this backdrop, prominent Taiz-based anti-Houthi activist Taha Saleh issued a deeply personal message to the city’s residents and local resistance today. His message was essentially this. Taiz should prepare to fight even without coalition air support. He argued that the city has been here before, has survived siege before and must now rely first on its own resistance. Saleh acknowledged the scale of Houthi advances across rural Taiz, but drew a distinction between capturing sparsely defended countryside and breaking into the heavily defended urban core. He said the Houthis are throwing large numbers of reinforcements against Taiz from multiple directions but have so far failed to make meaningful gains against the city’s established defensive fronts. He pointed specifically to the recent fighting on the eastern front, the Air Defense front, Jabal Han and other positions around the city, arguing that some of these battles have been among the heaviest Taiz has experienced since 2015. His message to residents was one of defiance. Taiz has been surrounded before. It found alternative supply routes before. And, in his view, its defenders today are more numerous, better armed and more experienced than during the earlier siege. “Now, everyone, this is our battle,” Saleh said. “We are used to fighting alone. We are used to holding out alone.” طه صالح's message

The Houthis vowed that they would not blow up the homes of their opponents as they advanced into new areas of Taiz. That promise did not last long. Video circulating today shows the demolition of the home of the late Sheikh Ibrahim al-Maqrami in his village of Al-Maqarimah. Al-Maqrami fought the Houthis until he was killed defending his family and land. Meanwhile, Yemen's Minister of Legal Affairs إشراق المقطري reports serious abuses following the Houthi advance into Al-Hujariyah, an area the group had been unable to penetrate for 11 years. According to al-Maqtari, Houthi forces carried out field executions in Rasin, including Ibrahim al-Khadashi, Shawqi Mahyoub and Adnan Saeed Rashid. She also reports widespread arrests targeting people whose relatives resisted the Houthis. Among those detained is Abdul Salam Bajash, who was reportedly wounded and subsequently disappeared along with several others.

War in #Yemen #SITREP | Operation Dawn of Yemen #ODY | The tempo of military operations today appears lower than yesterday, at least for now, although fighting and strikes continue across several fronts. TAIZ: National Shield Forces (NSF) قوات درع الوطن released footage showing a drone strike targeting a vehicle and what it described as a concentration of Houthi fighters in the Al-Barayn area of Al-Ma’afer district. The force said the strike achieved direct hits as part of #ODY. AL-JAWF: The 3rd Division of the NSF also released footage of artillery strikes against Houthi positions and fortifications at the strategic Al-Labanat military camp. This indicates continued pressure on the Al-Jawf front despite the apparent decline in the broader operational tempo today. WEST COAST: The Southern Giants Brigades المركز الإعلامي ل ألوية العمالقة الجنوبية reported repelling a Houthi attack against their positions in the airport sector of Dhubab district. According to the force, the Houthis suffered personnel and equipment losses before withdrawing. The fighting around Dhubab remains important because, despite some reporting suggesting otherwise, the Bab al-Mandab area and Yemen’s southern Red Sea coastline have not been fully cleared of Houthi forces. Control remains contested in parts of the area.

What do you think Fabian Hinz? Houthi ballistic missile fell near civilians in Raghwan, Marib, and appears to be a Burkan-3 or Zulfiqar. According to the DIA, the Houthis first launched the Burkan-3 in 2019 and displayed an identical system under the Zulfiqar name in 2021. The DIA assesses a demonstrated range of 1,200 km with a 250 kg payload and says the system is consistent with Iran’s Qiam or Rezvan MRBM. You can find the full guide of Houthi arsenal here:

The viral Houthi POW is getting the red-carpet treatment after his release. When he was captured, he reportedly said he only surrendered because he had run out of bullets. Now, footage shows Houthi officials visiting him and kissing his hand, with Abu Muayyad al-Hamali being hailed as an “icon” among the released prisoners.

Tell me you’re nervous without telling me you’re nervous. 😬 Houthi security and intelligence services carried out a major and highly visible show of force in Sana’a this weekend around the anniversary of Yemen’s September 26 Revolution, which toppled the Zaydi Imamate in 1962. The deployment included the Interior Ministry’s police intelligence apparatus, the Security and Intelligence Service, and rapid deployment forces, with convoys circulating around the capital day and night in tinted black SUVs, Chevyss, Toyota Land Cruisers, Technicals, and armored vehicles. The Houthis have long viewed September 26 as a potential rallying point for public mobilization against their rule, and this year the security presence came with its own social media production. Houthi-aligned accounts posted and amplified dramatic footage of the convoys, remixing the videos with Houthi war zamels and music associated with Iraqi armed groups for added dramatic effect. The message appeared aimed as much at deterrence as security. The security apparatus was everywhere, it wanted people to see it, and it was signaling that any attempt at organized street mobilization would face a rapid and forceful response.

Breaking | After the failed attack targeting the port of Duqm, Oman, most likely Iranian drones struck oil storage tanks at the port of Salalah. At least three fuel tanks are now on fire, with thick smoke spreading across the port. The full extent of the damage is still unclear, and more tanks may have been hit. What makes this striking is the target itself. Oman has long acted as a quiet mediator between Iran and the United States, hosting indirect talks and passing messages between the two sides. Seeing Iran strike a country that has historically played this mediator role is unprecedented and shows how far the conflict is spreading across the region.

We have been waiting to see these in northern Yemen. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first Houthi FPV drone using the infamous fiber-optic guidance system that became well known during Russia’s war in Ukraine. This one was seized on the Ma'rib front and appears fully intact.

I can now confirm that Saudi Arabia وزارة الدفاع has carried out three airstrikes targeting UAE-backed المجلس الانتقالي الجنوبي العربي (STC) forces in Nuhoub base, Ghayl bin Yameen, Hadramawt, Eastern Yemen, marking an unprecedented development that pushes the situation into uncharted territory. No casualties were reported, and no equipment was targeted, indicating the strikes were intended as a strong warning to vacate the base or face further action. The critical question now is what follows: 1) Will Abu Dhabi pressure the STC to scale back and withdraw? 2) Or will the STC advance toward Al-‘Abr and the Al-Wadi’ah border crossing with Saudi Arabia? 3) Alternatively, is there still room for a diplomatic and peaceful resolution to contain the escalation and prevent further violence?

Breaking | The 6th Military Region Command (MRC) of Yemen’s national army, backed by tribal resistance forces, launched an early-morning mobilization toward the Houthi-controlled Al Labanat base. Widely circulated videos reportedly shows a child in Al Jawf tearing down a portrait of Abdulmalik al-Houthi. Others shows what appears to be a large military convoy mobilizing along the roughly 60-mile route from Ma’rib toward Al Hazm via Al Labanat.

Saudi-backed Yemeni قوات درع الوطن and Emergency Forces have received additional MRAPs and other supplies. Iranian-backed Houthis see these movements as preparation for a ground war. UAE-backed STC forces believe the reinforcements are aimed at them. The equipment entered through the Saudi–Yemeni Al-Wadiah border crossing, and locals filmed its arrival in Shabwah governorate.

Additional videos circulating on Oromo and Ethiopian social media platforms appear to show that the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) has established an armed training camp in the no-man’s-land between Houthi-controlled Sa’dah in northwest Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. One of the fighters in the footage is seen carrying what appears to be a Saudi-issued G3A3 rifle.

Houthi claims to have seized the al-Aghbarah front appear to be challenged by the accompanying footage, which shows the rugged terrain and intensity of fighting in the area. Jabal al-Bazlah (Mount Bazlah) is a strategic mountain position and one of several peaks along the al-Aghbarah front in the al-Subayhah area, near the border between Yemen’s Lahj and Taiz governorates. While the footage highlights the difficulty of combat in this mountainous landscape, it does not independently verify which side controls Jabal al-Bazlah or the wider front.

This video was recorded about 30 minutes ago on Al Fan [Art] Street in Abha. It shows normal activity, with no visible signs of disturbance. We are not seeing any open source evidence that a Houthi missile struck a structure at Abha International Airport. Most of the explosion videos circulating from Abha right now are old footage from the Yemen conflict between 2015 and 2022. We are not tracking any verified new videos showing explosions in Abha, so be careful before assuming those clips are recent.

Unlike the rapid territorial gains along the western coast, the Houthis are facing sustained resistance in the southern western mountains of Yemen. Government forces and local fighters have reportedly repelled repeated assaults around Jirdad and Al Rasin, although the battle remains intense and the threat to the Taiz-Aden highway is far from over.

UAE-funded activities are shutting down on the Yemeni island of Socotra. Circulated videos shows the dismantling of a site that was intended to host the UAE’s annual Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival on the island. There are also reports that Emirati-linked business activities, particularly in the fisheries sector, as well as UAE-based travel agencies operating in Socotra, are closing down. These developments follow a decision by Yemen’s Saudi-backed, internationally recognized government to halt all direct maritime commercial shipping and airline traffic from the UAE to the island. To the best of my knowledge, there are currently no UAE military forces stationed on Socotra. The only foreign military presence on the island is a Saudi military task force operating alongside local forces. These local units have historically been aligned with the Southern Transitional Council المجلس الانتقالي الجنوبي العربي, but like other southern forces across South Yemen, they are now pledging loyalty to the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.

Yemen’s Vice President Tareq Saleh طارق محمد صالح says direct U.S. support has amounted to “just talk.” Tonight, القوات المسلحة الجنوبية المركز الإعلامي ل ألوية العمالقة الجنوبية اصيل السقلدي confirms the Houthis have captured Perim (Mayun) Island, strategically located in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. CNN International’s Nic Robertson was there just last week, gaining rare access to the island shortly before the situation spiraled. His report highlighted warnings from طارق محمد صالح and المقاومة الوطنية commanders about the threat to Bab al-Mandab, just before the dramatic overnight collapse of the eastern front, as well as their frustration with the level of U.S. support. Asked directly whether he was receiving support from the United States, Saleh answered, “Just talk.” Saleh also had a warning for President Donald J. Trump Donald J. Trump, arguing that what Yemen loses on the battlefield could ultimately carry an economic cost far beyond Yemen. “We see the high cost paid by the international community to secure the passage of few ships through the Strait of Hormuz,” Saleh told CNN. “If the Yemeni forces were supported right now, they will make more achievements with a much lower cost than the Strait of Hormuz.” The timing of Nick’s visit to Bab al-Mandab was unprecedented, coming literally days before the Houthi ground advance began. What happens next remains uncertain. Will government forces be able to retake the West Coast? The coming days may provide an answer. For now, we wait and watch how the front develops.

Voices from #Houthi-Controlled North #Yemen Houthi loyalist Abu Mesha’l Hesham from Ibb appeared deeply frustrated, complaining that there is no khat, fuel is scarce because of the war, and basic services have collapsed. He said Yemenis “cannot provide electricity, water, oil... gasoline, we cannot provide anything.” Addressing the leadership directly, he said, “Sayyid Abdulmalik al-Houthi... you have exhausted us.” He blamed “the war and the siege” for humiliating people and stripping them of basic necessities. His harshest words were for the Houthis over Taiz. “Get us out of this Taiz situation. You have embarrassed us in front of the world,” he said, at one point complaining that they were stuck “in front of 15 armed men” and still could not open the road. He also criticized Anwar al-Mutawakkil انور المتوكل, the Houthis’ jack of all trades in Ibb, who lists himself as director general of Civil Status, deputy head of the Development Committee, head of the governorate Community Committee, and a senior official at Al-Sha'b Sports Club. Hesham then unloaded on both sides. “We have remained on this journey for 13 years, sitting here being patient,” he said. “They entered Taiz, we left Taiz. They entered al-Hawban, we left al-Hawban.” He then said he did not care who mediated an end to the situation, “the UN envoy, Russia, Venezuela, anyone who comes in,” adding, “We are brothers. We are one people... but fight it out, grind it, and let one side win.”

Intense fighting is underway in Yemen’s Taiz governorate, where Houthi forces are pressing a major offensive. The battlefield situation remains fluid and difficult to verify, but accounts from two Yemeni National Army officers involved in military operations suggest that government defenses have not experienced a collapse comparable to what was seen on the West Coast front. The Houthis are claiming major territorial advances, but the two officers tell Basha باشا that government forces, backed by coalition airstrikes, local tribes and resistance fighters, are engaged in heavy fighting to prevent Houthi forces from capturing Jabal Jardad. According to the officers, Houthi fighters attempted to advance from the villages of Al-Qarsab and Dar al-Kafir but were forced to withdraw after sustaining casualties. Fighting also continues around Rasin and Nu’man. The officers dispute Houthi claims of territorial gains and reports that the highway connecting Taiz city and Al-Turbah is at risk of encirclement. The offensive appears aimed at disrupting the strategic road network linking Taiz and Al-Turbah with Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen’s internationally recognized government and home to one of the country’s most important ports. Cutting these routes would threaten a key transport and supply connection between government-held areas. Separately, قوات درع الوطن anti-tank teams used a Kornet anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) to target a gathering of Houthi military vehicles in the Al-Manbah area of Al-Kadahah. Furthermore, the Houthi-controlled government compound in Al-Houban, north of Taiz city, was also reportedly subjected to heavy shelling.

I just finished a live interview on Al Jazeera English, where we discussed the latest developments in Yemen following the strike on Sana’a International Airport and the growing tensions between the Houthis, Internationally Recognized Government of Yemen, Saudi Arabia-led coalition in Yemen, and Iran. The anchor noted that this scenario closely aligned with the forecasts I shared with clients on 03 July 2026 and published publicly in recent days. While I assessed an attack on the airport as the least likely among several possible scenarios, I also emphasized that Yemen remains highly unpredictable, which is why our forecasts focus on cautious probabilities rather than certainties. During the interview, I explained that despite today’s developments, I do not believe we have crossed the point of no return toward a full-scale war. In my view, the Saudi-led coalition’s decision to allow the Mahan Air flight to land in Hodeidah was an important signal that regional backchannel diplomacy remains active and that key actors are still trying to prevent a broader conflict. I also noted that the next move now rests with the Houthis. My assessment is that they are likely to respond with drone and missile attacks against Saudi Arabia. Limited attacks would likely lead to a measured response. However, if they expand their campaign to target Saudi oil and energy infrastructure, especially aramco, the risk of a much broader military response would increase significantly. We also discussed the Houthis’ growing focus on Saudi Arabia, their deteriorating economic conditions at home, the possibility of renewed ground operations, and the ongoing diplomatic efforts by Oman, Qatar, and the @OSE_Yemen to contain the crisis. My assessment remains that we are likely to see a calculated, tit-for-tat escalation rather than an immediate return to full-scale war. That said, the situation remains highly fluid, and the coming days will be critical in determining whether diplomacy can stay ahead of military escalation.
