Subject: Request for Investigation into Alleged Political Violence and Intimidation in Tanzania To the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, United Nations I respectfully submit this communication to request an independent investigation into allegations of political violence and intimidation in the United Republic of Tanzania. On 4 July 2026 in Dar es Salaam, an incident was recorded on video and has since circulated publicly on social media. I have attached the available video and related materials for your review. I believe these materials warrant independent examination. I am concerned that the incident, together with other reported events, may indicate intimidation of civilians and could have implications for the enjoyment of fundamental human rights, including freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and political participation. The group allegedly involved in threatening citizens who participate in demonstrations identifies itself as "Chui Weusi." According to publicly available videos, the group's leader is identified as Sheikh Mwaipopo, who appears speaking in the attached video. I am concerned that, to my knowledge, the Tanzanian authorities have not publicly denied these allegations or announced any investigation or questioning of the individuals involved. This has contributed to a public perception that the group may be operating with impunity. I respectfully request that these matters be independently investigated to determine the facts, including whether any state actors have supported, tolerated, or failed to prevent unlawful intimidation or violence. I respectfully request that the United Nations United Nations review the attached evidence, verify the facts through an independent and impartial process, and, if appropriate, engage with the relevant authorities to ensure accountability and the protection of human rights.
