Friends, during this visit to Washington, D.C. for the world premiere of “Heaven in Stone and Glass,” I was honored to celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew—where JFK’s funeral Mass was held and Pope St. John Paul II once offered Mass. Much like the gothic cathedrals explored in the film, this beautiful cathedral speaks the Gospel through its artistry and symbolism.

Friends, the Capuchin friars welcomed a broken man into their home, their routine, and their lives. In showing Christ’s tender love and mercy to Shia LaBeouf, they saw a man reinvigorated and ultimately welcomed into the fullness of the Church. It’s a beautiful story, modeled time and again throughout the ages by the brotherly example of Jesus, St. Francis of Assisi, Padre Pio, these brothers, and countless more. The more you give of your life and your love, the more the divine grace increases in you. As with all conversions, there’s so much more than we might readily be able or invited to see. The genius and humor of God is that there is a ripple effect with each conversion.
