Friends, I had the opportunity to celebrate All Saints’ Day Mass at Pax Christi Parish in Rochester, Minnesota, where I also dedicated and blessed their new Saint Carlo Acutis Youth Center. Join me in praying for all the young people who will gather there, that they, too, may one day become saints.

Friends, the Capuchin friars welcomed a broken man into their home, their routine, and their lives. In showing Christ’s tender love and mercy to Shia LaBeouf, they saw a man reinvigorated and ultimately welcomed into the fullness of the Church. It’s a beautiful story, modeled time and again throughout the ages by the brotherly example of Jesus, St. Francis of Assisi, Padre Pio, these brothers, and countless more. The more you give of your life and your love, the more the divine grace increases in you. As with all conversions, there’s so much more than we might readily be able or invited to see. The genius and humor of God is that there is a ripple effect with each conversion.

Friends, I traveled today to the Planned Parenthood in Rochester to join a group of seminarians and lay people in praying for an end to abortion. Over the years, it has been edifying to join in prayer with 40 Days for Life and to see the progress being made to uphold the dignity of every human life. As I mentioned to our group today, we pray in our time, but the answers come in God's time. Please join me in continually petitioning the Lord to help us end the grave evil of abortion.

Friends, I was not overly familiar with Archbishop Fulton Sheen or his work until I was already ordained and teaching in the seminary. At the prompting of my students, I purchased his tapes and listened to many of his retreats and sermons, quickly realizing just how impressive he was. I now consider him one of my great heroes.
