TKR, walking out of the press conference, taps Coach Painter and says “you can tell them about my block.” You can tell how much Painter loves these seniors by his smile. I pray this ride only ends one way 🏆. They all deserve it, man.

Like Omer Mayer last spring, incoming Purdue 7-footer, Sinan Huan, is spending this week at the Nike Hoops Summit in Portland. Here is Huan (#8) showing off his explosiveness. Another center that Coach Brantley can’t wait to get on campus, I’d imagine.

Flexibility. That’s probably the word that came to mind first after seeing Enzo Shahrvin get cleared. Purdue was always going to have flexibility in its backcourt - so many options at guard for PJ and Painter to mold this year’s team around, try different lineups with and find the perfect pairing - but it now has that luxury in its frontcourt, too. Purdue’s big-man-room features height, outside shooting and, now, a massive, above-the-rim bully. ‼️Shahrvin is listed at 6’9, 260 by Purdue‼️ And I don’t mean to sell Shahrvin short by calling him a bully - he is going to leave his mark on this team by doing all of the little things and I think he’ll play 15-20 mpg. That’s a big piece. This kid doesn’t mind doing the dirty work down low and diving after loose balls. (If our frontcourt ever has Caden Pierce and Enzo Shahrvin playing together in a (likely) small-ball lineup, good luck getting a rebound. No one will out hustle those two). Anyway, back to my point: Purdue is now able to play however Painter wants it to, both offensively and on defense. Shahrvin will help the rebounding worry greatly. He can defend guards and wings but will obviously start on the opponents 4 or 5-man (whichever is down low). That’s a huge addition to a Purdue team that already has plus perimeter-defenders but lacks a lock down guy on the wing or block. Enzo can guard guys like Toby Awaka and Morez Johnson. He wouldn’t have been bullied by Koa Peat. Purdue will be able to switch or play drop on D with Enzo, just as it can do either one with Jacobsen or Burgess. On offense, Enzo will give Purdue that short roll option while DJ (or Burgess?) is on the block to catch lobs or on the perimeter to shoot threes. Expect to see Enzo in the short roll when he’s in but not the other two. For instance, they’re taught to never throw a bounce pass to DJ (he’s 7’4). From reading Kraig Bowers, sounds like Enzo not only can handle the passes off the roll but he’s a good passer himself out of it. Just more flexibility and skill sets for PJ Thompson to work with. I’m not calling Purdue 2020 Baylor but that team won it all while starting a 6’6, 250 lb center. They obviously had 3 NBA guards playing alongside him, but Purdue can play that way if they deem it advantageous. And we know Matt Painter will find the best lineups to reach our ceiling. Purdue may not have one dominant big this year but, collectively, it’s 5-spot will be a +. With that, expect Purdue in the top-15 all year. This team will earn Purdue its 10th straight top-4 NCAAT seed come March. 🚂🏀

I’m exited for Cluff, Mayer and Murphy (plus Tyrese Haliburton and Ryan Hammer) to experience the Mackey Arena environment tomorrow afternoon against #10 Iowa State. Gonna be unlike any game they’ve ever played in/attended. 🚂🏀
