The women who take my “sociology of family” class tell of brothers living in their parents’ basements, boyfriends hooked on pornography and male peers who don’t pull their weight in group projects. Most troublingly, many of these women say they have never been asked on a date. Their voices are part of a rising chorus expressing concern about the falling fortunes of our boys and men.”

Last week brought more bad news for men, this time regarding men’s falling fortunes at work—as the # of men working has fallen below women. This is bad news because it’s reflective of men’s growing inability to be successful breadwinners. And men who are not working are more likely to fail at Life and Love—literally, they’re more likely to die by suicide & fail when it comes to dating & marriage. See below:

"Thomas Jefferson, whose home sits just behind me, is justly famous for authoring the 'Declaration of Independence' where he talked about 'the pursuit of Happiness.' Yet, we are seeing that more & more Americans are failing in that pursuit. This is the subject of an important new article by Annie Lowrey in The Atlantic where she talks about what one Chicago economist calls a 'happiness crash.'
