I've watched Zidane, Ronaldinho, Henry, Drogba, Kakรก, Rooney, Lampard, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo shape different eras of the game. I'm a Chelsea fan. CR7 is still my GOAT. So when I call Lamine Yamal my young GOAT, I'm not saying he's already greater than the legends I grew up watching. I'm saying I've watched enough football to recognize when a teenager is doing something genuinely unusual. Yamal was 15 when Barcelona gave him his senior debut. At 16, he became the youngest player ever to appear at a European Championship. Then he helped Spain win Euro 2024 and was named the tournament's Best Young Player. Barcelona eventually handed him the legendary No. 10 shirt. And he kept producing. In 2025/26, he helped Barcelona win LaLiga, finishing with 16 goals and 11 assists before being named LaLiga's Player of the Season. Then came the 2026 World Cup. Before turning 20, Yamal had already added a World Cup winners' medal to his collection. That's when the comparison stops being about hype. He's already building a rรฉsumรฉ.
