HB26-1084 makes it harder for Colorado citizens to exercise their First Amendment right to petition their government. Instead of protecting that right, this bill adds more hoops and gives a partisan board power to shape — or kill — citizen ballot initiatives. Government’s job is to secure the rights of the people, not silence them. I voted NO.

They spent your surplus to ZERO… now they’re coming back for more, without asking you. This bill: ❌ Dodges the Taxpayer Bill of Rights ❌ Raises taxes disguised as “spending” ❌ Takes more from YOU while ignoring fraud ~$1,000 per voter. ~$2,000 per family. Gone. This isn’t policy, it’s “Fees for Feels.” Colorado: you’re being taxed to feel good. 💸

Hour 2 of the Long Bill reading. This is the most egregious part of the budget: “Colorado for All” was sold at $14.7M— now it’s over $120M, with a $95M cap. Taxpayer-funded benefits for those here illegally, without your consent. That’s not compassion. That’s compelled spending. Real compassion is voluntary. Government should follow the Constitution, not ignore it.

WATCH: Colorado Energy Office Said The Quiet Part Out Loud. Yesterday, during the Smart Act Hearing, I pressed the Colorado Energy Office on a simple question I've asked for years: 👉 What are the actual climate goals? The answer? There aren’t any. What the state is really using to justify billions in new costs isn’t climate outcomes, it’s the “social cost of carbon,” a speculative accounting construct used to push unrelated policy agendas. ✔️ No measurable climate impact ✔️ No temperature change ✔️ Higher energy costs for Coloradans ✔️ Taxes and debt rebranded as “offsets” Even the agency admitted that Colorado’s actions won’t affect the climate, YET families are still being asked to pay more to “accomplish nothing.” I said what many Coloradans are thinking: If there are no real climate goals, why are we forcing working families to foot the bill? 🎥 Watch the exchange and decide for yourself.

Coloradans didn’t pass the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) so bureaucrats could redefine it every time they mismanage their budget. Today, I stood up to say: Honor the taxpayers. Honor TABOR. The nanny state’s solution to every self-inflicted budget problem is always the same — take more of your money. Instead of respecting your voice and your vote, they scheme to bypass your will through "creative" accounting, endless new enterprises, and manufactured exemptions. Here’s the truth: 👉🏼 Colorado's budget has exploded — from $40 billion to $55 billion — yet they still come back asking for more. 👉🏼 The worst place your hard-earned money can go is this building. 👉🏼 TABOR was created to protect you from them. And based on what’s happening today, it’s clear you still need that protection. Enough is enough. Let Coloradans breathe. Let families and businesses thrive without the constant heavy hand of government. I voted no on SB25-173, and I will always stand for you over the bureaucrats. Watch my full remarks below
