Why could GenX afford to buy a house and you canโt? We bought ourselves cars that barely ran and learned to to fix them with duct tape and baling wire. Most of you refused to learn to drive and when you finally did, Mommy bought you one and still pays for your gas and insurance. We lived 6 people to a 1 bedroom so we could move out at 18. Youโll live with Mommy until youโre 40 because you canโt share a bathroom much less a bedroom. We got our first โrealโ job at 14 and have worked 2-3 jobs at a time through school and will until the day we finally retire or die. You wonโt start working until youโre 25 and you cry on day 3 if you havenโt been promoted or if you donโt get praised because you showed up. We had a 13% interest rate and earned about $500 a week for a full time, above minimum wage job. You cry about 6% and youโve never worked a minimum wage job because you think itโs beneath you. We learned very early on how to regulate our time, our money, and our emotions. You believe youโre the main character and that your big feelings require others to regulate so you donโt have to. You want a house? Stop whining and figure it out like every other generation has had to.

After a two week vacation when the Senate took drastic measures to prevent Trump from making any recess appointments, they finally reconvened at 3 pm and what did they accomplish? They agreed to vote tomorrow on 2 judicial nominees, approved a โMental Health Awareness in Agriculture Dayโ, and passed a resolution honoring former U.S. Senator Donald W. Riegle Jr. That it. Thatโs all they did and they adjourned at 6:27 pm. They go on vacation for two weeks, set a return time of after 3 pm, clock out a few hours later, and call it a day. This is what we pay them for? As a 20 year ER/Trauma RN, let me tell you a little bit about CPR that none of the tv shows will. To do proper CPR, you have to push down on the chest HARD & fast. If youโre doing it correctly on anyone over the age of 70, multiple ribs will be broken and the sternum bruised. When you have multiple broken ribs, we call it โflail chestโ and even if the person gets back a heartbeat, theyโll be unable to breathe properly because the chest cavity is no longer supported. So, youโll likely need to be intubated rapidly and we sometimes break off your teeth in the process. Itโs not pretty. Itโs not peaceful. And it sure as hell isnโt painless. Now, all of that is if you have your heart stop while in the hospital and you get a trained team. For patients over 80, if you need pre-hospital CPR, your survival rate is about 2%. Even if you do survive, your life is a living hell. You canโt laugh, breathe, cough or sneeze for up to a year without severe pain. You likely lost brain function due to the time without oxygen. Your mobility is impaired because youโve been in bed for so long and many will never get out of bed again. But U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell โs people want us to believe heโs already up and functioning as a member of Congress. I call bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit. The man was gorked for the last 5 years and thereโs no way heโs miraculously healthy enough to vote on matters that impact our country after this. He must be removed immediately. Isnโt fair to him or us to continue this farce. Lastly, if youโre over 70, I beg you not to be a full code (make sure your loved ones know you donโt want CPR or intubation) and for the love of God, if youโre over 80, make sure youโre a DNR and have your POLST form on your refrigerator, in your wallet, and in your medical records so your poor family doesnโt have to make the decision for you. Thereโs nothing worse than being forced to break the chest of a frail granny because the kids are too sad to let her go or because the asshole grandkids want more time to have her write them into the will.
