Why could GenX afford to buy a house and you can’t? We bought ourselves cars that barely ran and learned to to fix them with duct tape and baling wire. Most of you refused to learn to drive and when you finally did, Mommy bought you one and still pays for your gas and insurance. We lived 6 people to a 1 bedroom so we could move out at 18. You’ll live with Mommy until you’re 40 because you can’t share a bathroom much less a bedroom. We got our first “real” job at 14 and have worked 2-3 jobs at a time through school and will until the day we finally retire or die. You won’t start working until you’re 25 and you cry on day 3 if you haven’t been promoted or if you don’t get praised because you showed up. We had a 13% interest rate and earned about $500 a week for a full time, above minimum wage job. You cry about 6% and you’ve never worked a minimum wage job because you think it’s beneath you. We learned very early on how to regulate our time, our money, and our emotions. You believe you’re the main character and that your big feelings require others to regulate so you don’t have to. You want a house? Stop whining and figure it out like every other generation has had to.

Did you know that one week after Muslim terrorists killed 3,000 people on 9/11, ABC News president David Westin issued a directive that the videos of the attack and its aftermath would no longer air on their stations? All other networks immediately followed suit. Think about what they did. They literally erased the deadliest terrorist attack in our history. Our kids didn’t grow up seeing the images, hearing the screams, learning the horror of that day. We said we’d Never Forget, but we just covered it like a mourning shroud and pretended it wasn’t there. Instead of honoring the sacrifices made that day, we hid them like a dirty secret. Just 25 years later, the New York governor dons a hijab, the city elected a communist Muslim mayor who openly despises America, and the the newly rebuilt World Trade Center is lit up in green to honor the very religion that brought the city to its knees. After a two week vacation when the Senate took drastic measures to prevent Trump from making any recess appointments, they finally reconvened at 3 pm and what did they accomplish? They agreed to vote tomorrow on 2 judicial nominees, approved a “Mental Health Awareness in Agriculture Day”, and passed a resolution honoring former U.S. Senator Donald W. Riegle Jr. That it. That’s all they did and they adjourned at 6:27 pm. They go on vacation for two weeks, set a return time of after 3 pm, clock out a few hours later, and call it a day. This is what we pay them for? This is how they earn lifetime pensions? We don’t hate our own government enough but specifically Leader John Thune Senate Republicans Vote them all out!

As a 20 year ER/Trauma RN, let me tell you a little bit about CPR that none of the tv shows will. To do proper CPR, you have to push down on the chest HARD & fast. If you’re doing it correctly on anyone over the age of 70, multiple ribs will be broken and the sternum bruised. When you have multiple broken ribs, we call it “flail chest” and even if the person gets back a heartbeat, they’ll be unable to breathe properly because the chest cavity is no longer supported. So, you’ll likely need to be intubated rapidly and we sometimes break off your teeth in the process. It’s not pretty. It’s not peaceful. And it sure as hell isn’t painless. Now, all of that is if you have your heart stop while in the hospital and you get a trained team. For patients over 80, if you need pre-hospital CPR, your survival rate is about 2%. Even if you do survive, your life is a living hell. You can’t laugh, breathe, cough or sneeze for up to a year without severe pain. You likely lost brain function due to the time without oxygen. Your mobility is impaired because you’ve been in bed for so long and many will never get out of bed again. But U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell ’s people want us to believe he’s already up and functioning as a member of Congress. I call bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit. The man was gorked for the last 5 years and there’s no way he’s miraculously healthy enough to vote on matters that impact our country after this. He must be removed immediately. Isn’t fair to him or us to continue this farce. Lastly, if you’re over 70, I beg you not to be a full code (make sure your loved ones know you don’t want CPR or intubation) and for the love of God, if you’re over 80, make sure you’re a DNR and have your POLST form on your refrigerator, in your wallet, and in your medical records so your poor family doesn’t have to make the decision for you. There’s nothing worse than being forced to break the chest of a frail granny because the kids are too sad to let her go or because the asshole grandkids want more time to have her write them into the will.

That same week I had to look an elderly woman in the eyes and tell her we were canceling her hip replacement… “elective,” they called it… so she would stay bedridden for at least another six months. On July 23, 2020 Anthony Fauci sat maskless at a Washington Nationals game, shoulder-to-shoulder with others, ignoring every social distancing rule he preached. That same day I had to explain to a husband why he couldn’t see his wife with dementia… who cried in confusion and fear because no one she knew was allowed to be there. They never lived under the rules they wrote. We did. Our patients did. Our families did. The elite never suffered the consequences of their own power. We did. Never forget who the rules were really for.
