🚨 Here’s a big issue we’re seeing with young athletes at the higher levels of high school, college, and pro ball. 🚨 They don’t understand direction—or what the actual job of the top hand and bottom hand is. But a great baseball player, Sammy Sosa, does… and we love this saying: “The bottom hand is our steering wheel, and the top hand puts it in the parking lot.” 🙌✅ #baseball #training

Why do we start BP in the opposite field gap? 👀 It allows the ball to travel deeper, helping us maintain connection and direction in our swing. As the game speeds up, if we start out by pulling the ball, we’ll likely end up WAY out front come game time—leading to poor connection and bad direction to the ball. #baseball #baseballlife #BP #gametime #onfield #hitting #batting #coaching

How we start with a new player we’ve never seen before! 12-year Major Leaguer, CEO, and Camwood Coach Wes Helms starts by simply watching the player swing—like Auburn commit Wade Shelley . He asks questions about how the player feels, what they’re struggling with, etc., so we can create a game plan tailored to their specific swing and needs. If you’re not doing this, you’re losing power and stability in your swing. After a controlled load into the back hip, we have to be ready to unleash that stored energy into the ball. The only way to do this with both force and stability is by hitting against a strong front side — more specifically, our front heel. When we drive the front heel properly into the ground, it allows us to maximize both force and stability, enabling our mechanics to function correctly and generate gap-to-gap power! #softball #hitting #lesson

Stop dumping the barrel!! Big cue here to make sure we aren’t doing this in our swing. When we start our move, the first move should be with the back hip and knob to set our direction to the ball. If you don’t feel this and instead feel your back elbow going first—getting in front of your hands—you’re dumping the barrel and losing control of your ability to make consistent contact. #softball #softballtraining #hitting #barreldump
