Every single neighborhood that used to have those walkie talkies on poles has seen violence go down after they were removed. I'm not going to sell Chicagoans a false bill of goods just to enrich the interests of corporations. Any technology with a proven track record of driving down violence, I'm willing to explore. Accepting anything less than that would be a derelict of my duty as mayor.

Chicago will continue to have a "violence problem" as long as Red states continue to have a gun problem. The endless flow of illegal guns into Chicago can be traced to Red states like Mississippi, Indiana, and Louisiana. It is up to the federal government to step up and stop interstate gun trafficking networks.

They picked a fight with the wrong city. Chicago has been through worse than this before and we will come out of this federal invasion stronger and more united. Whether you are the descendant of slaves or immigrants, you belong in the greatest freakin city in the world.

7 YMCA locations across the city will be free for young Chicagoans aged 12-18, starting June 8th and going through the end of August. Thank you to the YMCA of Metro Chicago and to Mielle Cares for committing $250,000 to support safe gathering spaces during these summer months. These efforts play a huge role in keeping our young people safe. YMCA of Metro Chicago GoodKidsMadCity Chicago Youth Works

Unless you've lived through the trauma of shootings and homicides in your community, perhaps you don't know the reason behind our whole-of-government approach to community safety. One thing we can't do is offer people a pacifier and pretend we're making them whole.
