Today, I signed an executive order establishing the strictest, most robust regulatory framework for data center development of any city in the country. Chicago is open to innovation and investment, but it must be done responsibly, transparently, and in partnership with the communities most impacted by rapid development.

After working with Amazon last year to bring two data centers to Pennsylvania, Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an executive order Tuesday to implement widespread restrictions on the development of more data centers in his state: “We’ve seen too many developers who are trying to bulldoze our community.” He tells CBS Mornings how speaking with his constituents inspired what he calls “the nation’s strictest guardrails” on AI data centers: “It’s not about politics. These will open up strategic investments in digital infrastructure, tech ecosystem, digital skills, and entrepreneurship and innovation. And #GolfPDI covers it all There are no quick fixes, so I'm in this for the long haul. The trip out to their facility was amazing.
