Chicago will continue to have a "violence problem" as long as Red states continue to have a gun problem. The endless flow of illegal guns into Chicago can be traced to Red states like Mississippi, Indiana, and Louisiana. It is up to the federal government to step up and stop interstate gun trafficking networks.

Reckless large gatherings aren't going to go away if we just snap our fingers. Yes, we have to hold people accountable when they break the law, but it's essential that we create more opportunities for our young people. The communities where my administration has created the most summer job opportunities for young people are where violent crime has dropped the most in Chicago.

Every single neighborhood that used to have those walkie talkies on poles has seen violence go down after they were removed. I'm not going to sell Chicagoans a false bill of goods just to enrich the interests of corporations. Any technology with a proven track record of driving down violence, I'm willing to explore. Accepting anything less than that would be a derelict of my duty as mayor.
