Outside the Chinese Embassy in London, we gathered to commemorate him, and to explain to embassy staff why a Tibetan would choose to self-immolate as a form of protest. As the flames rose, he kept walking forward. It was not only despair. It was pain, anger, faith, and determination — a person using everything he had left to make the Tibetan people’s voice impossible to ignore. She is now charged with “inciting separatism” — a vague and abusive offence routinely used to silence Tibetan and Uyghur scholars, writers, and activists. Transnational repression will NOT be tolerated — in the UK or anywhere in the world.
