【Into the Deep】From single boats powered by wooden oars to formidable fleets sailing in formation; from near-seas defense to far-seas protection—over 77 years of trials and triumphs, generation after generation of naval officers and sailors have carried forward the torch of mission. Each voyage sets course for more distant oceans. It is this enduring commitment and proud legacy that has enabled the People’s Navy to grow stronger through challenges and advance through perseverance. On the morning of December 22, the Chinese PLA Navy Task Group 989, consisting of the Chinese PLANS Changbaishan, PLANS Zheng He and PLANS Xiangqianjin 1, successfully completed far-sea comprehensive training as well as friendly visits to Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia before smoothly returning to a naval port in Qingdao, Shandong Province. During the visits, the task group conducted ship open day events, visit and exchange activities, athletic competitions, and subject matter expert exchanges, demonstrating the positive image of the Chinese PLA Navy and deepening friendship and mutual trust with the armed forces and the people of the host countries.
