Any time I get frustrated with one of the teams I root for, I turn on the Angels and remember that there’s always worse. Every time you turn on an Angels game there’s an absolutely bewildering assortment of AAA players and 28 year old former top prospects running amuck in the middle of the most unspeakable plays you’ll ever see on a baseball diamond. This team will firmly end up between 70-80 wins every year lol just commit to a rebuild already man

My last memory of John Sterling play-by-play was the Soto AB that sent the Yanks to the WS in 2024 out on the porch with my dad. I remember everything about listening to this game so vividly lol I remember thinking it was a routine can of corn to center the way John made it sound and I put my head down for a sec. Then he does his whole HR shtick a second later pure fucking disbelief. I watch this at bat way more often than I'd like to admit, specifically with the Sterling call😂 RIP to an actual legend

I feel like the Jays fans are going through what we went through last year with Devin Williams. A year after giving up a historical, gut punching home run to be a big factor in losing his team a do/die game, the underlying metrics have looked amazing but haven't matched the results in the slightest. The peripherals on his season are outstanding. 🔹2.68 xERA || 2.31 FIP || 1.78 xFIP || 🔹99th-100th percentile Chase%, whiff%, K%..the stuff is stuffing. And he only has a 6.9% BB rate. 🔹A 37.9 K% - 6.9 BB% is absurdly good and this is one of the best predictive metrics we have in the sport 🔹Also limits hard contact: 6.5% Barrel rate and 30.6% Hardhit rate 🔹Andddd keeps balls on the ground for the most part But the results make no sense: 4.62 ERA (now higher obviously) .492 BABIP 68.8% LOB 16.7 HR/FB% This is almost identical to what we went through with Devin. On the one side, a lot of the data guys are (and understandably) saying this is a really good pitcher that needs more time for things to come back down to earth. But then you have more of the not-so data crowd (+ even some of the data crowd by now) saying this is a guy that shouldnt see high leverage again. And I understand both, just as I did with the Devin situation. It's hard to fault fans for just not wanting any part of this after what happened last year + what they feel as a fan this year. But then again, it's hard to ignore how dam good the data looks too, which is more often more correct than the eye.

One of the more interesting claims I think the team could've made this offseason Yanquiel (LHH - RF) is 23 years old and has quite a pocket of interesting tools to be played with: 🔹Average 74.5 mph bat speed 🔹Recorded 100th percentile Arm Strength - only behind Oneil Cruz He was in Triple-A for the majority of this year and put up some intriguing numbers 0.325 xwOBA / 0.426 xSLG 111.0 mph max EV 14% K - 8.5 BB% 26% Whiff / 81% z-contact (average/serviceable) Aggressive swing decisions, lots of chase but lots of swings in zone Low risk, high reward type of guy that's only 23. Not a bad move at all (Viz on the right done by Prospect Savant , everyone should check out his website)

Spencer Jones with an opposite field 106 mph bomb to get things going for Scranton Jones sits on the year with a .930 OPS The underlying batted ball data, as expected, has been outrageous. .413 xwOBA 110 EV90 28% Barrel rate 58% Hardhit Hell, he's even swinging in zone a bunch and taking his walks... The only thing? You guessed it: 46% Whiff 61% z-contact
