Brandon Lee died at age 28 from an accidental gunshot wound on the set of The Crow in what remains one of the worst on-set accidents in Cinema history. A real bullet fragment from a previously used dummy round was lodged in the barrel of a prop gun without the crew realizing & resulted in Lee losing his life. Lee’s performance in The Crow is extraordinary. For so many reasons, it’s tragic we lost him so young.

I’m watching a new Robert De Niro film tonight. Writing that sentence in 2026 feels like a total and absolute blessing. I will never take this man for granted - I will never take his films for granted. It’s nearly impossible picking a favorite De Niro film but I think The Deer Hunter is in the conversation. Simply one of my favorite actors to ever walk the face of this Earth. Excited to see him tonight.

DEVELOPING: Taylor Sheridan is reportedly returning to Cinema. That’s at least according to Josh Brolin, who confirmed on the press junket for Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars that Sicario 3 is 1) in the worlds & 2) being written by Sheridan. This isn’t good news. This is fantastic news. I’ve long maintained that Sheridan is at his best when he’s writing for Cinema. I have to admit, I’ve succumbed to Sheridan’s latest show Lioness, which is truly entertaining as hell. But Sheridan’s best work remains in Cinema.

Chris Hemsworth deserves the same criticism Chris Evans deserves for constantly returning to the MCU despite being capable of so much more. Take Crime 101 for example. Hemsworth is unbelievable in this film. It’s a mature, nuanced performance. Why is it asking so much for Hemsworth to do more roles like this & put Thor’s hammer down?

Tim Curry, Ridley Scott & Tom Cruise united for what I believe is one of the most overlooked film of the ‘80s: Legend. This movie was so far ahead of its time, it hurts. Curry is unbelievable as the Lord of Darkness & the fact we are losing Curry in the middle of Ridley Scott Week only makes me think about this film more. Studio interference & multiple versions of this film got in the way of its initial release. But now? Time to start giving this film the credit it deserves.

I strongly, strongly recommend giving Troy (🌟🌟🌟🌟) a rewatch before going into The Odyssey. Revisiting Troy last weekend was just one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. Nolan quite literally picks off right where Troy ends, so if your memory on The Odyssey is a bit hazy, I strongly recommend revisiting Troy.

Bill Paxton died at just 61 & when I tell you I miss seeing this man’s face in movies, I mean it. Paxton had a sneaky versatility about him: he could do drama, action, sci-fi- and above all- he was funny. That’s such a lethal combination for an actor as intelligent as Paxton. It’s also the reason why his filmography is incredibly deep. We lost a great actor way too soon.

Steel Magnolias is my personal favorite Dolly Parton film. This film is totally heartbreaking and emotionally crushing. With Parton gone, it takes on a new meaning. Parton’s strength as an actress was her relatability - you felt like you knew her. Her loss is a tremendous one. RIP to a legend.

Michael J. Fox is one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever seen in my life. There are days where I bitch & moan about little things that don’t matter but seeing Michael J. Fox return to acting while battling Parkinson’s sort of brings me back down to reality about what actually matters in life: health, family, and being able to do what you love in life. I can’t fathom how much bravery it takes from Fox to act on screen while battling this disease. It’s one of many reasons Shrinking is such an important show. Out of everything Apple TV has ever done, this is my favorite.

Rounders is an all-timer for me because it has four of my favorite actors all throwing 100 MPH at the same time: Matt Damon, Ed Norton, John Turturro, and John Malkovich. All four of these men are cooking with hot grease here & perhaps no one more than Malkovich. Everything about this is so ‘90s coded & I think it’s aged exceptionally well. For those of you who’ve yet to see this film, I can’t emphasize enough its quality.
