Ben Hogan’s left arm got closer to his chest as he turned through the shot. Instinctually, a lot of golfers “chicken wing” because they think they can hit the ball harder. But that’s not how serious compression is created. Pull in as you turn the corner, and keep that upper left arm tied to the chest. That’s where the speed, control, and compression come together. My upcoming Classic Swing Golf Schools are June 20–21 at Grapevine Golf Course in Texas and July 17–19 at Foxwoods in Connecticut. Email school@classicswing.golf for details.

Hitting solid golf shots is like a trick. It’s counterintuitive. Some players feel it early and take off… others spend years chasing it. My job as a teacher is to show you that “aha” moment—how to compress the ball, control the strike, and repeat it. When it clicks, it’s euphoric. You’ll know it instantly. If you’re ready to experience that for yourself, join me at my upcoming golf schools: 📍 May 2–3 at Grapevine Golf Course (Texas) 📍 July 17–19 at Foxwoods (Connecticut) For details or private lessons, email me at christo@classicswing.golf

Ben Hogan once said, “The flatter my swing is, the fatter my wallet gets!” There’s wisdom in that. A flatter motion keeps everything moving around you—more rotary, more connected, more repeatable. When I work on flattening my swing, I feel my hips and shoulders turning on a more similar plane. The club begins to orbit instead of lifting and chopping. That freedom creates width, compression, and the kind of consistency you can trust under pressure. The classic players understood this. They built swings that worked when it mattered. My new Classic Swing Performance Academy, 3-Month class, begins March 4th. Enrollment is limited but there are a few spots left. Email christo@classicswing.golf if you’re interested in completely changing your swing for the better!

Ben Hogan once showed the world on the Ed Sullivan Show how he could swing with both elbows connected to his body. It was a simple, powerful reminder of how the greats built their motion from solid fundamentals. Working on that same feel today can do wonders. It keeps the arms synced with the body, encourages a classic, repeatable strike, and—believe it or not—you can even hit balls this way. It’s a timeless drill that still delivers.

What’s happened over time is this: modern instruction has become very position-based, while the greats—like Jack Nicklaus—were built on motion, sequence, and intent. So when teachers look at Nicklaus today, they often see: •Inside takeaway → “too far inside” •Across the line → “out of position” •Over-the-top move → “wrong path” •Early extension → “loss of posture” But that’s judging a living motion by frozen positions. The fundamentals that power his swing are no longer understood. Nicklaus wasn’t built on perfect positions—he was built on sequence, timing, and motion. A powerful shift before the top. A natural re-route of the club as he turned the corner. A vertical release that kept the face stable under pressure. It wasn’t textbook. It was effective. The great players didn’t all look the same—but they were built on the same timeless principles. Those principles haven’t changed… they’ve just been forgotten. I’ll be breaking this down step by step in my free webinar on the Classic Golf Swing, March 30th at 8pm and March 31st at 6pm. There’s a link to register in the first comment!

I pull the handle in with my left hand as I turn the corner. That simple move creates what I call the “water skier effect.” Just like a skier accelerates when the boat changes direction, the club speeds up when you pull in and turn through. It’s not about swinging harder—it’s about applying force at the right moment. This is one of the key pieces most golfers are missing. When you get it right, the strike feels effortless… and the ball jumps. If you’d like to learn how to build this into your swing, join me at my upcoming golf schools: 📍 May 2–3 at Grapevine Golf Course (TX) 📍 July 17–19 at Foxwoods (CT) For lessons or more info, email me at christo@classicswing.golf

186 yard, 7-iron with a smooth swing. I’ve worked hard studying technique and this is what I’ve found to be the most efficient swing. It is an inside takeaway, a slight OTT move, and pull in as you turn the corner - smooth power. I’ll be holding a free webinar on the Classic Golf Swing, March 30th and 31st. The link is in the first comment.

I’ve always loved playing blades because they kept me honest and narrowed my focus. But after years of that, I decided to see what a set of player’s distance irons could do for me. I gamed the P790’s for two years and really liked them—until I cracked my 7-iron. That sent me looking for something new, and I ended up with the MacGregor MACSPD irons. I’ve got to say, I’m blown away. They’re every bit as long as I need, and they fly ridiculously straight. The best part? They’re only $499 compared to $1499 for the P790’s. And if you use my code “classicswing”, you’ll save another 10%. These MacGregor Golf are the real deal.

One of the best ways to hit the ball straighter is by focusing on the extension of your right arm through the strike. When the trail arm straightens, it delivers the club squarely and helps your body release its stored energy in the right direction. Too many golfers collapse the right arm early or “chicken wing” the left, which causes pulls, slices, and inconsistency. Instead, think of the right arm extending down the target line after impact—just like Hogan, Snead, and so many classic swingers did. That extension keeps the clubface square, compresses the ball, and sends it flying on a rope. Work on this move and you’ll be amazed how much straighter your shots become.

Every golfer knows the feeling… you get to the top, you’re fully wound, and there’s that urge to hit from the top. That’s the Hit Impulse. The problem? The harder we try to fire our hands and arms early, the more we rob ourselves of sequence and compression. Power doesn’t come from panic — it comes from order. Here, I’m relaxing my arms as much as possible. Almost to the point of feeling passive. That softness allows my lower body to initiate, my legs to glide, and my core to unwind the club the way it was designed to move. When the arms stay supple, the body can dominate. It’s counterintuitive… but that patience at the top is what creates that heavy, compressed strike we’re all chasing. If you’d like to go deeper into how I train this and build a classic, body-friendly motion, visit my website for more information.

I hear a lot of talk today about “hip and shoulder separation.” Yes, there’s a differential there. But honestly, I don’t want to think about it at all. When I swing, I just rotate from my core as hard as I can — like I’m throwing a hook at a heavy bag. It’s simple! I’ve never once heard a boxing coach tell a fighter to “separate” for power. They teach you to rotate your body in sequence. The power shows up naturally. The golf swing works the same way. Athletic rotation from the ground up. Simple. Powerful. Repeatable. If you’d like to learn my Classic Swing power method in person, my next Classic Swing Masterclass to February 28th at Grapevine Golf Course near Dallas. Email me at christo@classicswing.golf for details.

Blades are the real game-improvement irons. They demand your attention, your balance, and that pure, center-face strike the greats always relied on. When you train with clubs that tell the truth, your swing gets sharper, your contact gets cleaner, and the rest of your bag benefits right along with it.

This swing has racked up over 1.8 million views on Instagram — and here’s why. In this move, I’m focusing on pulling my hands in toward my body as I turn the corner. This simple key accelerates my rotation and keeps the club in front of me — just like Hogan. When you feel it, you’ll never go back. 🎯 My next Classic Golf Swing Weekend School is happening September 20–21, and I’ll be teaching one-of-a-kind fundamentals that can truly change your game — and maybe even your life. Email me at christo@classicswing.golf for more details. Spots are limited! #ClassicGolfSwing #BenHogan #MySwingEvolution #GolfSchool #GolfFundamentals #GolfTraining #SwingLikeTheLegends #GolfDallas

Ben Hogan suggested you hit 30 drives as hard as you can at the end of practice to gain distance. Hitting it longer helps, and it’s fun! In my new course, Classic Power, I’ll show you every trick I used to gain over 50 yards with my driver. Coming Black Friday!
