Miguel Angel Jiménez has one of the smoothest, most unhurried, and most effective golf swings ever put on display. Never a care in the world. He simply swings from the inside, lets it work over the top, and then strolls away from aces like he's competing in a Macarena contest. The beauty of Jiménez's motion isn't just that it works—it's that it's built to last. If you'd like to learn the classic over-the-top swing that's stood the test of time, check out my Classic OTT instructional video. Learn to swing with rhythm, freedom, and a move you can trust for a lifetime. A hallmark of Lee Trevino’s swing was right arm extension. I studied this move with Tim Brantley, and it completely changed the way I think about the release. Here I’m working on allowing my right hand to thrust the handle forward and around through impact rather than trying to “hit” at the ball. It’s a great feel to try because it encourages the club to release naturally while maintaining lag and compression. Trevino understood that power comes from extending through the shot, not quitting on it. Give this feeling a try on the range and see what it does for your ball striking. 👍🏻

Ben Hogan’s left arm got closer to his chest as he turned through the shot. Instinctually, a lot of golfers “chicken wing” because they think they can hit the ball harder. But that’s not how serious compression is created. Pull in as you turn the corner, and keep that upper left arm tied to the chest. That’s where the speed, control, and compression come together. My upcoming Classic Swing Golf Schools are June 20–21 at Grapevine Golf Course in Texas and July 17–19 at Foxwoods in Connecticut. Email school@classicswing.golf for details.

Ben Hogan once said, “The flatter my swing is, the fatter my wallet gets!” There’s wisdom in that. A flatter motion keeps everything moving around you—more rotary, more connected, more repeatable. When I work on flattening my swing, I feel my hips and shoulders turning on a more similar plane. The club begins to orbit instead of lifting and chopping. That freedom creates width, compression, and the kind of consistency you can trust under pressure. The classic players understood this. They built swings that worked when it mattered. My new Classic Swing Performance Academy, 3-Month class, begins March 4th. Enrollment is limited but there are a few spots left. Email christo@classicswing.golf if you’re interested in completely changing your swing for the better!

The sweetness of catching a pure blade right on the screws is hard to describe. These Miura Baby Blades are as pure as it gets. Miura Golf Early in my swing evolution, I made a decision that most people thought was crazy. I put away my oversized game-improvement irons and switched to blades. The result? My ball striking improved dramatically. Why? Because blades demand your full attention. They expose flaws, reward precision, and force you to develop better mechanics. Every shot matters. In a way, it was sink or swim—and my game got much better because of it. If you’re serious about becoming a better ball striker and learning the Classic Golf Swing, I’d love to work with you at one of my upcoming golf schools. For details and registration, email me at christo@classicgolfswing.com. One question… Are you a blade player, or do you prefer game-improvement irons? Let me know in the comments.

Hitting solid golf shots is like a trick. It’s counterintuitive. Some players feel it early and take off… others spend years chasing it. My job as a teacher is to show you that “aha” moment—how to compress the ball, control the strike, and repeat it. When it clicks, it’s euphoric. You’ll know it instantly. If you’re ready to experience that for yourself, join me at my upcoming golf schools: 📍 May 2–3 at Grapevine Golf Course (Texas) 📍 July 17–19 at Foxwoods (Connecticut) For details or private lessons, email me at christo@classicswing.golf

Ben Hogan once showed the world on the Ed Sullivan Show how he could swing with both elbows connected to his body. It was a simple, powerful reminder of how the greats built their motion from solid fundamentals. Working on that same feel today can do wonders. It keeps the arms synced with the body, encourages a classic, repeatable strike, and—believe it or not—you can even hit balls this way. It’s a timeless drill that still delivers.

Blades are the true game-improvement clubs. Why? Because they demand your full attention. They require focus, precision, and a commitment to finding the middle of the face. When you know a slight mishit will let you know about it, your concentration sharpens and your strike quality improves. Those big, hulking, offset monstrosities allow your mind to wander—and that’s a dangerous thing in golf. Great ball striking starts with awareness. Get zeroed in. Get committed. Get Zen. If you’d like to learn the Classic Golf Swing and improve your ball striking, join me at my next Weekend Golf School on June 20–21 at Grapevine Golf Course in Texas. We spend two days building a repeatable, powerful swing, and we play 18 holes together on Sunday. For golf school information or private lessons, email me at school@classicswing.golf.

I’ve always loved playing blades because they kept me honest and narrowed my focus. But after years of that, I decided to see what a set of player’s distance irons could do for me. I gamed the P790’s for two years and really liked them—until I cracked my 7-iron. That sent me looking for something new, and I ended up with the MacGregor MACSPD irons. I’ve got to say, I’m blown away. They’re every bit as long as I need, and they fly ridiculously straight. The best part? They’re only $499 compared to $1499 for the P790’s. And if you use my code “classicswing”, you’ll save another 10%. These MacGregor Golf are the real deal.

What’s happened over time is this: modern instruction has become very position-based, while the greats—like Jack Nicklaus—were built on motion, sequence, and intent. So when teachers look at Nicklaus today, they often see: •Inside takeaway → “too far inside” •Across the line → “out of position” •Over-the-top move → “wrong path” •Early extension → “loss of posture” But that’s judging a living motion by frozen positions. The fundamentals that power his swing are no longer understood. Nicklaus wasn’t built on perfect positions—he was built on sequence, timing, and motion. A powerful shift before the top. A natural re-route of the club as he turned the corner. A vertical release that kept the face stable under pressure. It wasn’t textbook. It was effective. The great players didn’t all look the same—but they were built on the same timeless principles. Those principles haven’t changed… they’ve just been forgotten. I’ll be breaking this down step by step in my free webinar on the Classic Golf Swing, March 30th at 8pm and March 31st at 6pm. There’s a link to register in the first comment!

Before speed training, my longest drive on a launch monitor was 257 yards. After speed training, my longest drive was 332 yards. That's a 75-yard gain! The video compares these two swings side-by-side, and the difference is eye-opening. Speed training didn't just help me hit it farther—it completely changed what I thought was possible. Today's YouTube video features my fastest speed training session ever and premieres at 3:00 PM CT. If you're looking for more distance, you won't want to miss it! If you'd like to learn how I generate speed, compress the ball, and build a more powerful Classic Golf Swing, join me at my next Classic Swing Weekend Golf School on June 20-21 at Grapevine Golf Course. 186 yard, 7-iron with a smooth swing. I’ve worked hard studying technique and this is what I’ve found to be the most efficient swing. It is an inside takeaway, a slight OTT move, and pull in as you turn the corner - smooth power. I’ll be holding a free webinar on the Classic Golf Swing, March 30th and 31st. One of the best ways to hit the ball straighter is by focusing on the extension of your right arm through the strike. When the trail arm straightens, it delivers the club squarely and helps your body release its stored energy in the right direction. Too many golfers collapse the right arm early or “chicken wing” the left, which causes pulls, slices, and inconsistency. Instead, think of the right arm extending down the target line after impact—just like Hogan, Snead, and so many classic swingers did. That extension keeps the clubface square, compresses the ball, and sends it flying on a rope. Work on this move and you’ll be amazed how much straighter your shots become.

I pull the handle in with my left hand as I turn the corner. That simple move creates what I call the “water skier effect.” Just like a skier accelerates when the boat changes direction, the club speeds up when you pull in and turn through. It’s not about swinging harder—it’s about applying force at the right moment. This is one of the key pieces most golfers are missing. When you get it right, the strike feels effortless… and the ball jumps. If you’d like to learn how to build this into your swing, join me at my upcoming golf schools: 📍 May 2–3 at Grapevine Golf Course (TX) 📍 July 17–19 at Foxwoods (CT) For lessons or more info, email me at christo@classicswing.golf

My 72-year-old student Bob can still rip it 300 yards. Not because he swings harder—but because he finally learned to stop fighting the forces in the golf swing and let them work for him. A sound, traditional setup is worth its weight in gold, and Bob is living proof that real power never goes out of style. I’ll be teaching all of my Classic Power principles in a free webinar on December 19th and 22nd. The last one filled up fast, so if you want in, don’t wait—sign up now. Link below.
