I hadn’t programmed for about 35 years, and back when I did program, it was stuff like “10 PRINT ‘HELLO’ 20 GO TO 10,” or maybe a database in FoxPro in high school, and fooling around in assembler on a Zilog Z80 when I was trying to translate *Tir Na Nog* into Czech. And now, with the help of AI, I’ve coded a fully functional virtual Czech keyboard with a touchpad into a Chinese operating system for an awesome 18 inch folding hybrid notebook from Huawei in just three days. I created an account as a Chinese developer, installed their Deveco Studio in a virtual Windows environment, and compiled the code generated by GPT. Working with it felt just like working with a real person. We argued from time to time. It even made mistakes just like a real person, including typos in the code!!! And I had to guide it on how to proceed, so even though I’m a programming illiterate, it wouldn’t have worked without me so far. We’re now on version 9.1, and the only things that still don’t work are dragging windows with the touchpad and docking when the display is rotated to landscape mode. We’re still thinking about how to hack it so that the keyboard moves the bottom dock above itself—which is hard-coded in Harmony OS 7, and we don’t have access to it. In any case, what I initially considered just an expensive gimmick—something I’d try out of curiosity and then pass on, since it’s mostly in Chinese and you can’t even type in Czech in the English apps—has turned into a fully-fledged laptop on which I can work in Czech. A year ago, that would’ve been unthinkable. Oh, and that notebook is awesome. And that Chinese operating system is better than Windows, of course. How could it be otherwise? #huawei #matebookfoldultimate #harmonyos7

I've been to many concerts, including many performances of KCD music, but yesterday's concert at the Church of St. Barbara in Kuttenberg was not only the best KCD concert so far, but the best concert I've ever been to. Including the Enslaved club gigs 😉 Jan Valta
