“It was like this biblical battle where the Palestinian men … went in front of me to protect … me and my rescuers from being attacked again,” Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine told Jake Tapper. Levine was kicked, beaten with clubs and robbed by Israeli settlers while covering Friday’s olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, leaving her with multiple broken bones. Speaking after leaving the hospital, she said Israeli soldiers charged Palestinian farmers as settlers advanced alongside them. She said that unlike her, Palestinian victims endure these attacks daily, with absolutely nowhere safe to go.

“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah. Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah. Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah. "The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him. Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot.

The phrase originated in a bizarre Snapchat message allegedly sent by an undercover police officer posing as a student to infiltrate groups organizing school blockades. The message, awkwardly mixing Arabic expressions, French youth slang, and Algerian flag emojis was asking about protest plans. Students seized on the apparent attempt to imitate them, and have turned the phrase into a meme to mock suspected police infiltration and racial stereotyping. It now appears on protest signs and is chanted at demonstrations. Swedish activist Greta Thunberg also joined in, repeating the slogan during a visit to striking students at a high school outside Paris on October 13. The identity of the sender and police involvement remain unverified.

Gaza’s Greek Orthodox Church held funeral services today for Maysa Daoud and her daughter, Mary, who were killed while sleeping when an Israeli strike hit their apartment in western Gaza City, according to Gaza’s Civil Defense.
