Shell CEO Sawan reminds the #1 rule of oil production - it declines so need to add new production every year just to keep production flat. "the world needs more oil. We're growing at 1 million b/d demand at the moment, consistently. And natural declines on existing fields are around 5 million b/d. Big warning from Apollo Pres Jim Zelter "going to get more secular distress than cyclical distress". "I think you're going to get more secular distress than cyclical distress. That's very important. When we think about secular distress, I think the development of AI will change broad business models. We've talked a lot about healthcare technology.... about the outsourcing businesses... about software, enterprise software. The AI impact can have dramatic impact on those business models. And typically, when you go back in the underwriting memo, you think about your base case and the downside being down 5, 10, 15%. OXY CEO sees US #oil shale production to plateau between 2027 and 2030 and "then the shale declines pretty quickly". How US shale oil moves, so does total US oil production move. "The conventional oil in the US , the conventional reservoirs we think will recover about 230 billion barrels form those. we think we'll recover about 100 billion barrels from the shale development in the US. There will be a time when that production will plateau. We believe that's going to come between 2027 and 2030. And then the shale declines pretty quickly because when you look at it, about 70% of the shale oil being produced today is from wells that were drilled within the last 3 years. Apollo Pres Jim Zelter. $5-7T needed to fund data center and infra capex over next 5-7 yrs. ~$1.5T from from free cash flow of hyperscalers Next $1.5% from project finance, private capital & variety of other debt markets $1-1.25T from high grade investment grade market Leaves ~$1-1.5T where is that going to get financed??
