I always see tourists staring at Florence’s Duomo, completely ignoring the absolute mind-bender of a design trick right next to it. And today, I want to share it with you. Look closely at the windows on Giotto's Bell Tower - notice how they get wider and taller as they go up? Architect Francesco Talenti did this on purpose. He rigged the design so that when you look up from the ground, the natural optical illusion is canceled out, and every floor looks perfectly symmetrical. They were literally hacking our brains in the 1300s. 🤯 📽️Matthew Bates

More people need to know that there is an Inca city FOUR TIMES bigger than Machu Picchu. Deep in the Cusco Andes of Peru lies T’aqrachullo, an ancient citadel that covers a larger structural footprint but gets a fraction of the tourists. 600 stone buildings sitting on a volcanic cliff 13,000 feet in the sky. Civita di Bagnoregio, or "The City in the Sky", is a spectacular, nearly isolated ancient village in central Italy dating back approximately 2,500 years. Accessible only by a steep 300-meter pedestrian footbridge, it sits atop a crumbling tufa rock pinnacle and is famous for its vanishing beauty and Etruscan history.

After 144 years, Sagrada Família is finally set to be completed this year in Barcelona, Spain. The project was initially designed by Francisco de Paula del Villar in 1882. Antoni Gaudí took over the next year, and spent the rest of his life working on it (over 40 years)! In 2026, after surviving war, delays, and generations of builders, this modernist dream will be realized for all to see.
