Police will be conducting high visibility foot patrols in key areas, managing traffic flow, and will be continuously monitoring activity to respond quickly across the region in the lead up to and on Canada Day. Unsafe behaviour such as misuse of fireworks puts everyone at real risk, impacting residents, homes and businesses. We will not tolerate disorderly conduct. Illegal activity will result in enforcement action, including tickets, seizure of fireworks, charges and arrests. In preparation, we have been working in close partnership with municipalities, by-law and other emergency services to implement additional proactive measures such as barriers, lighting and operational plans to facilitate everyone’s safety and security. Public safety is a shared responsibility. Please celebrate responsibly.

‼️ Here’s #SomethingToKnow – e-scooters are only allowed to be operated in the City of Burlington as part of the Centennial Trail E-Scooter Pilot. Under the Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Regulation 389/19: Pilot Project – Electric Kick-Scooters, municipalities must opt-in by passing a local by-law to allow e-scooters on their roads. Make sure you’re aware of the following before riding an e-scooter: • You must be 16 or older to operate an e-scooter, where permitted. • If 16 or 17 years-old, you must wear a helmet. • E-scooters can travel at a maximum of 24 km/h – it’s not lawful for them to travel faster than that. With the recent shopping rush, we’ve started to see pickpockets active in our community again. Last year, between mid-November and early January, Halton Police received 110 reports of phone thefts targeting shoppers — a reminder of how quickly these crimes can happen. This video shows how pickpockets work: they often operate in groups, blend into busy areas like malls and community events, and use distractions to steal phones, wallets, and other valuables without being noticed. Protect yourself: • Keep your phone and wallet in your front pockets. • Don’t store all valuables in one place. • Avoid distractions such as earbuds. • Never set your items down, even for a moment. If you discover something missing, please report it to our non-emergency line: 905-825-4777. Stay alert and stay safe.

Our Service is fielding a number of inquiries from residents regarding the rising use of e-scooters throughout #Halton. E-scooters are only permitted in municipalities that have passed by-laws allowing them. We strongly encourage residents to consult with their town or city before using an e-scooter. Under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), e-scooter riders must: 👉 Operate only on public roads, municipality permitting; their use on sidewalks, controlled-access highways, walkways, paths, and trails is not permitted; 👉 Be 16 years of age or older; and 👉 Yield to pedestrians and cyclists. 📽️ Watch the below video to learn more important rules of the road. 📄 Read the full media release here:
