A 55-year-old woman was fatally shot by her neighbour in Mawai village on Sunday morning following a confrontation over his daily presence outside her house, police said. The accused was caught by villagers and handed over to the authorities, while a video of the incident later emerged online. The deceased has been identified as Geeta Devi, a resident of Mawai village under the Januthar police station limits. She was rushed to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur after being shot around 9 am but was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors. Deeg Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamble Sharan Gopinath confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway. "A video of the incident has surfaced. We have seized the DVR and are collecting additional evidence. Strict action will be taken against the accused," the SP stated. According to the victim's daughter, Gudiya, the accused, who lived in the neighbourhood, had a habit of standing in front of their main gate daily. When her parents objected to this behaviour around 8 am on Sunday, an argument broke out. "He abused my father. At this, my mother slapped him. After this, the accused threatened, 'I will kill you all within an hour,' and fled from there," Gudiya recounted. The accused returned about an hour later, as promised. At that time, Gudiya and her mother were walking back home from the fields carrying fodder. Spotting him outside the house, Geeta Devi put down the load, picked up a stick, and struck him three to four times. During the ensuing scuffle, the youth pulled out a country-made pistol and fired a single shot at her. Witnessing the shooting, Gudiya also rushed forward with a stick, but the accused attempted to flee. However, local villagers chased him down, caught him, and immediately handed him over to the police. Police officials added that further legal proceedings are being initiated based on the evidence collected so far, including the seized video footage.

The family of a youth who died in a road accident in Pudukkad, Thrissur, has alleged that the incident was a deliberate act rather than a road accident. Authorities have not yet confirmed the family's allegations, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to Rijas' death.

Police have launched an investigation and are also examining the allegations made in the video. In the Instagram video posted before his death, Rahul accused his wife Jyoti, his mother-in-law Veena, his father-in-law Bittu and his wife's sister Neetu of mentally harassing him. He claimed that despite doing all household chores, including sweeping and washing utensils, he was assaulted, and false cases were filed against him. He said he had been living under constant mental stress. Rahul also said in the video that his wife and her family were responsible for his death and should be punished according to the law. He further said that after his death, his property should go to his mother, sister and brothers. The victim, Rahul, had opened a garment shop around four months ago. According to police, Rahul met his mother at home on Sunday morning before leaving for his shop. A short while later, he hanged himself inside the shop. Police reached the spot after receiving information, took custody of the body and sent it to hospital for post-mortem. According to Rahul's family, he had married a woman named Jyoti in a love marriage around two years ago. They alleged that after the marriage, his wife did not want him to live with his parents, following which he started living separately. They said Rahul had recently opened his new garment shop. A family member, Amit, alleged that Rahul had been under severe mental stress due to harassment by his wife and her family. He claimed that Rahul's wife had also filed a case against him, which added to his stress. The family further alleged that Rahul was not even allowed to meet his parents. Investigating officer Sanjay Kumar said police have sent the body for post-mortem and are investigating the case. He said the viral social media video has been included in the investigation and that the allegations made in it will be verified during the probe.

A 40-year-old IT professional was arrested after allegedly firing an air gun from the balcony of his apartment at security guards, parked vehicles and a parking shed in Anekal taluk on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Police rushed to the apartment complex after receiving information and took the accused into custody. The Scene of Crime Operations (SOCO) team inspected the spot and collected evidence, including air gun pellets recovered near the damaged vehicles. Police have seized the air gun and the pellets allegedly used in the incident. A case has been registered at Suryanagar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

A 42-year-old man, against whom a video alleging misbehaviour with a woman passenger on a bus had surfaced on social media, was found hanging dead at his residence on Sunday, police said. The deceased was identified as Deepak U, a native of #Puthiyara, who was residing at #Govindhapuram, #Kozhikode. According to police, around 7 am, Deepak’s parents knocked on the bedroom door to wake him up, but there was no response despite repeated attempts. They later entered the room with the help of neighbours and found him hanging from a ceiling fan, police said. The police were immediately informed and, upon reaching the house, confirmed the death. Relatives said Deepak was employed at a textile firm and had travelled to #Kannur on Friday in connection with his work. On the same day, a woman passenger travelling on the bus in which Deepak was seated had recorded a video alleging that he misbehaved with her, a relative told reporters. The video was widely circulated on social media and had come to Deepak’s notice, police said. According to relatives, Deepak denied the allegation and had been under severe mental distress since the video surfaced. The medical college police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation. After Lavanya got off the bus at the BC Road bus stand, the accused allegedly followed her. Police said he then took out a machete from a bag and chased her. Despite her attempt to escape, he allegedly attacked her repeatedly before fleeing the scene. Police personnel from the Bantwal subdivision and Bantwal Town Police Station rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. Lavanya, who sustained critical injuries, was immediately shifted to Bantwal Taluk Hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries despite efforts to save her. After the attack, the accused allegedly fled towards Mangaluru in an Alto car. During his escape, he reportedly called Lavanya's father and told him that he had killed his daughter and intended to end his own life. Acting swiftly, the Bantwal subdivision police formed a special investigation team. Using mobile phone location data and CCTV footage, officers traced and arrested the accused along with the vehicle near Vamanjoor-Pacchanadi on the outskirts of Mangaluru. In a big twist in the death of real estate firm director Ketan Vishal Agrawal, police on Tuesday arrested his fiancée and her lover for allegedly pushing him into a deep gorge off Lohagad Fort in Pune and passing it off as an accident, officials said. While the incident, which occurred on June 18, was initially believed to be a case of an accidental fall at the historic Lohagad Fort, the investigation pointed to a murder conspiracy, they said. Agarwal (26), a resident of Gahunje in Pune district and director of a family-run real estate business, was found dead in a gorge near the fort on June 18. The police had then said Agarwal fell nearly 400 feet into the gorge while taking photographs during a trek with his fiancée and friends amid strong winds at the fort. An accidental death report was registered after his fiancée, Siya Goyal, told the Lonavala rural police that Agarwal had slipped and fallen while the couple was on an outing at the hill fort. Agarwal was scheduled to marry Goyal later this year. It was learned that the families had made elaborate wedding preparations, including booking a palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan, for the ceremony. Superintendent of Police, Pune rural, Sandip Singh Gill, said the circumstances surrounding the death appeared suspicious, which prompted police to investigate the case thoroughly. "Our teams examined multiple angles, including financial disputes and personal relationships. During the probe, police allegedly found that Goyal was in a relationship with another man, identified as Chetan Babulal Chaudhary (22), a resident of Kondhwa in Pune," he said. The investigation showed that Goyal was unwilling to marry Agarwal and considered him an obstacle to her relationship with Chaudhary, the official said. The two allegedly conspired to eliminate Agarwal. As part of the plan, Goyal took him to Lohagad Fort under the pretext of an outing, while Chaudhary was called to the spot later. The duo then allegedly pushed Agarwal off the fort, leading to his death, police said. Based on suspicion, the local crime branch took Chaudhary into custody. During interrogation, it emerged that since Agarwal was becoming an obstacle in Chaudhary's relationship with Goyal, both of them plotted to eliminate her fiancé. Goyal was also arrested based on Chaudhary's interrogation, the police said. "Following a complaint lodged by Ketan's father, Vishal Agarwal, the Lonavala rural police registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on Tuesday," Gill said. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events, collect forensic evidence and determine if other persons were involved in the alleged conspiracy, police officials said. Lohagad fort is linked to the history of Maratha empire founder Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is one of the 12 forts in Maharashtra listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in this district for allegedly killing his wife, suspecting her of having an extramarital affair, police said on Tuesday. According to police, the accused allegedly filmed his wife in her final moments while she was hanging from the noose, with the video purportedly showing her struggling, and later circulated it to several people, including her family members. However, investigators are yet to determine whether the woman was assaulted and then hanged or whether she died by hanging after an assault, since there were blood injuries found on her body. Around 5:30 pm, the accused called the victim's father and informed him that she had died. Preliminary investigation suggested that the accused suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with another man. Police have recovered videos allegedly found on the woman's mobile phone, as well as those recorded by the accused after the incident. "The accused shared those videos with the woman's father, family members and some friends. We have recovered those videos," Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal said. According to the SP, the videos allegedly showing the affair were found on the wife's phone by the accused, who copied those videos to his own phone and shared them with some of his friends. "We have seized the husband's mobile phone. During its examination, we found videos that allegedly led him to suspect his wife was having an extramarital affair. We are examining those videos to determine the circumstances that led to the crime," he said. The SP added that even the victim's family had acknowledged they were aware of the alleged affair. Responding to reports that the accused may have made a video call to the man with whom his wife allegedly had the affair and showed him what had happened, Goyal said: "We have to verify that. We have seized the phone and sent it for data extraction. We will examine the call records, the data available on the device, and recover any deleted data, if possible." Police said the couple married in 2020 and lived together for about four years. They have a three-year-old son. According to the preliminary investigation, while the husband was working as a driver and travelling frequently over the past two years, the woman allegedly developed a relationship with another man from the area where her parental home is located. The alleged affair led to frequent disputes between the couple, police said. The woman had been staying at her parents' house for the last one-and-a-half months. Investigators are also looking into her alleged complaints that her husband was not taking proper care of her. According to the SP, on Monday, the accused allegedly went to his in-laws' house and brought his wife back to their home. The two were alone when the incident happened. Police said blood injuries were found on the woman's body and an iron rod-like weapon has been recovered. Officers have also collected evidence from the crime scene for forensic examination. "The post-mortem examination will clarify the nature of the injuries on the neck. We are also examining whether she was given any intoxicating substance. Stomach contents have been preserved and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis," the officer said. Beer bottles were also found at the scene and police are examining whether the woman had been made to consume alcohol. "There are blood injuries on the woman's body, and the accused appeared to harbour resentment towards her. Instead of attempting to save her, he recorded videos and immediately shared them with several people. The exact sequence of events will be established after a detailed investigation," he said. Police said they would seek the accused's custody to verify the authenticity and timing of the videos recovered from the woman's phone, question witnesses and examine whether village panchayat meetings had earlier been held over the couple's marital disputes. Further investigation is underway.

A long-running family property dispute turned violent in Hyderabad's Secunderabad after a 33-year-old woman allegedly attempted to murder her mother-in-law by attacking her with a kitchen knife inside their house in Chilkalguda. The accused, D Vijayalakshmi, 33, was arrested by Chilkalguda Police within 24 hours of the incident and has been remanded to judicial custody. According to the police, the incident occurred around 9 am on July 21 at Erukala Basti, Chilkalguda, when the victim, Devarai Padmavathi, 57, was alone on the first floor of her residence. Investigators alleged that Vijayalakshmi entered the house armed with a sharp vegetable-cutting knife, grabbed her mother-in-law by the hair, dragged her inside and repeatedly attacked her with the intention of killing her. The victim sustained serious injuries to her neck and fingers during the assault. Her cries for help alerted neighbours, who rushed to the house, intervened and rescued her. Padmavathi was immediately shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where she was admitted for emergency treatment. Police said her condition is currently stable. During the investigation, police found that Padmavathi and Vijayalakshmi had been involved in a long-standing dispute over the ownership of the family house in Chilkalguda. Investigators believe the simmering property conflict culminated in the alleged knife attack. Based on the victim's complaint, Chilkalguda Police registered Crime No. 356/2026 under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and launched an investigation. A police team inspected the crime scene, collected forensic evidence, examined CCTV footage from the locality, recorded statements of witnesses and seized the knife allegedly used in the attack. Acting on credible information, police arrested Vijayalakshmi on July 22. During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to committing the offence. Investigators also seized the clothes she was allegedly wearing during the attack as part of the evidence. The accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody, while further investigation is underway.
