A Congolese national detained at Gauteng’s Lindela Repatriation Centre says he fears deportation despite entering South Africa legally and being married to a South African citizen. Living in the country since 2018, he was detained after his passport and business visa expired while in custody on another matter. He claims detainees face uncertainty about their cases, alleges poor living conditions at the facility, and says as a father of four he wants the chance to regularise his documentation rather than be deported. 📷: Wendy Dondolo / IOL #CongeleseNational #LindelaRepatriationCentre #Deportation #Documentation

Evidence leader Chaskalson continued presenting evidence. A video of a man wounded in a car riddled with bullet holes (sent by Van Wyk on 25 February) was identified as Maxwell Mlengeni, owner of Today's Destiny Logistics—who survived the shooting. Van Wyk sent the video with the comment: "This guy also had an issue with George" (George Fundamaba). Van Wyk claimed in his statement that the photograph was circulated in private security WhatsApp groups, but Chaskalson noted the person shot was not Mr. Timber Moyo (as Matlala claimed) but Maxwell Mlengeni. A photograph of a bag of cash (R200 notes bound with rubber bands, sent 24 March) was explained by Van Wyk as money won at a casino (approximately R200,000)—though he inconsistently claimed he never sent such photographs. Chaskalson flagged a key chat on 6 April 2025 (page 378) as potential evidence of Van Wyk and Matlala dealing in cocaine. #MadlangaCommission

At O.R. Tambo International Airport, 22‑year‑old Sylvester Boakye was the only Ghanaian found in the departure section after his government announced a free charter flight for 300 nationals wanting to return home amid xenophobic threats in South Africa. Having lived with fellow Ghanaians in Pretoria, Sylvester was relieved to go back, but after arriving at 20h00 on Wednesday he discovered by 06h00 Thursday that no other expatriates had appeared for the scheduled 05h00 flight and no officials were available to provide answers. 📷: Timothy Bernard / Independent Media #ORTamboInternationalAirport #flight #Ghana #return #xenophobic #threats

Evidence leader Chaskalson presented WhatsApp chats between Mr. Van Wyk and Julius Mkhwanazi (EMPD) from October 2021 (pages 583-585). A voice note from Van Wyk on 8 October describes his vision for a "specialized unit" for EMPD: "We don't only just respond to medical emergencies, we can respond to riots, anything. We're on the scene if something happens, we can help with crime combating, drug busts because we know all the drugs." Mkhwanazi responded: "For now, let us form a line with him [Chief Mapier]... But with him, we are not going to destroy everything." Draft MOUs between EMPD and Medicare24/Anubis Protection Services (Van Wyk's entities) and CAT VIP (Matlala's entities) were presented (pages 806-814). The Medicare24 MOU includes provisions for private security personnel to be "issued firearms through our VIP protection unit" and for EMPD to assist with vehicle registration so they can "use blue and red lights to respond for and on behalf of EMPD." #MadlangaCommission

The SIU has confirmed what many suspected. South Africa’s Home Affairs system was turned into a marketplace, with marriage certificates and residency permits sold for as little as R500. Over 630,000 foreign nationals may now be in the country illegally through sham marriages, fraudulent life partnerships, and collusion between corrupt officials and religious figures. Cases have been referred to the NPA. - Sesona Madlokovana reports. #SouthAfrica #HomeAffairs #SIU #ImmigrationFraud

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said Durban businessman Tariq Downes allegedly fabricated an ‘undercover agent’ story to avoid arrest after being caught with an unwrought gold bar. Senior officials Maj-Gen Feroz Khan and Hawks head Ebrahim Kadwa reportedly vouched for him, leading to his release. Investigators later confirmed he was not a police spy and should never have been freed. 📷: Kamogelo Moichela / IOL #AthlendaMathe #TariqDownes #FerozKhan #EbrahimKadwa #arrest

Witness I testified about a meeting at a hotel on 29 January 2025 with Brown Mogotsi and a Crime Intelligence member (whom he knew from the Scorpions). He said the CI member stated they "needed to fix things"—meaning Witness I should make a statement clearing Major General Khan at his disciplinary hearing. He refused, saying that would amount to perjury. The CI member then allegedly said: "You will get a bag and they will facilitate for you to get a promotion at work if you help Major General Khan." Witness I pretended to go along, asking them to bring the bag so he could arrest them for bribery—but they never brought it. He did not report the incident, fearing it would reach "the targeted people." He also testified that after the John Wick scene (where a suspect was fatally wounded), Brigadier Mokwena claimed the scene was "a hit" and wanted to consult with Mr. Matlala to "fix it"—meaning Matlala would pay something to keep a source quiet. Witness I believed this was an attempt to extort money from Matlala, noting that Brigadier Mkwena did not have top secret clearance at the time. #MadlangaCommission

🚨 SIU Freezes R76.5m in Assets Linked to Eskom Corruption The Special Investigating Unit has frozen 17 properties and 7 luxury cars tied to businessman Siyabonga Nkosi after uncovering inflated relay contracts at Eskom’s Kusile and Matla stations. Relays priced at R50,000 each—worth just R180–R450—cost Eskom R73.6m. Officials split tenders to dodge oversight, while Nkosi’s trusts laundered funds into prime real estate and supercars. The SIU will now move to recover losses and pursue criminal charges.
