The US military said it attacked the oil tanker, MT Settebello, after it tried to “violate” the blockade put up by the US outside the Strait of Hormuz, off the Oman coast.

A Tejas plane taking part in a demonstration at the Dubai Air Show crashed on Friday afternoon (November 21). The HAL made plane went down around pm local time while performing an aerial display before a large crowd. Thick black smoke was seen rising from the crash site near the airport, prompting panic among onlookers, including families with children who had gathered to watch the show. It remains unclear whether the pilot managed to eject before impact. Authorities have yet to release further details as emergency teams rushed to the scene.

Seven-year-old Ishank Singh from Jharkhand has become the youngest swimmer to cross the Palk Strait, completing a 29-km open sea swim from Sri Lanka to India in 9 hours and 50 minutes on April 30, an event recognised by the Universal Records Forum (URF), which said he was the ‘Youngest and Fastest Palk Strait Swimmer’. The crossing from Sri Lanka’s Talaimannar towards Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu is considered one of the toughest open-water swims due to strong currents and unpredictable sea conditions.

#ExpressInvestigation | For every candidate who cracked India’s civil services this year under the Economically Weaker Section quota, the son of a security guard or the daughter of a railway porter, there are many others on the same quota list whose backgrounds tell a different story: sons and daughters of businessmen, IIT graduates, alumni of private schools in the city charging over a lakh a year in fees. There were 104 candidates selected in the Civil Services Examination 2025 under the 10 per cent quota for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) — those from general category families with an annual income of less than Rs 8 lakh. An investigation by The Indian Express has found a gap between the scheme’s stated purpose and the profiles of many it has come to benefit. 🔗
