I barely recognized the journalist Ali al-Samoudi when I saw him this week. He had been imprisoned by Israel — without charge and without a trial — for a year, during which time he lost half his body weight. He is one of 105 Palestinian journalists who have been imprisoned by Israel since October 7, 2023 — most without charge, according to Committee to Protect Journalists.

So honored to have won an Emmy for my interview with senior Hamas official Ghazi Hamad. This was one of the most challenging interviews I’ve ever prepared for, but I had a clear idea of how I wanted to approach it from the outset (more on that in the video) and a phenomenal team that helped execute it. Fahd Abu Haikal was driving through Hebron last week when he spotted a group of Israeli soldiers. He began to slow down, but one of the soldiers raised his rifle & opened fire. One bullet pierced the windshield, striking his son, Sam, in the head. He was just 7 months old -- the 13th child to be killed by Israeli security forces in the West Bank so far this year. The IDF says it is investigating the shooting.
