Debt is $200 billion lower this year than what the Coalition left us. Australia's gross debt as a share of GDP is substantially lower under us than what they forecast in 2022. If the Coalition was in power right now debt would be approaching $1.2 trillion. Our responsible economic management has delivered one of the three strongest budgets in the G20 and much lower debt to GDP than any major advanced economy.

I asked this question to the former Liberal Treasurer in 2020. Most of the federal debt was racked up by the Liberals and Nationals between 2013 and 2022 - they even doubled the debt before COVID-19. Labor is managing the economy and the Budget in a very responsible way.

Getting compliance costs down for builders was a big focus of our Budget and we’re making access to building standards free. Instead of paying up to $1600 a year to access the standards, tradies will get them for free. That means more money in the pockets of tradies and small businesses and higher standards all round.
