450 million EU citizens should not have to depend on 340 million Americans to defend ourselves against 140 million Russians who can’t defeat 38 million Ukrainians. It’s time for us to take responsibility for the defence of Europe.

If 🇪🇺will face Russian aggression, it will face a Russian battle tested army, which is much stronger than it was back in 2022. Apart from Ukraine, no one in Europe has comparable experience. Are we ready to integrate 🇺🇦 battle tested military capabilities with ours, and how?

Our defence relies now on the backbone of U.S. mil. forces in Europe. What will that backbone look like in the future? German forces? 23 separate EU MSs/NATO forces? Or a new European Defence Union? Would 🇺🇸 be stronger, if it had 50 armies, 50 defence policies &amp; 50 budgets?

We are not at war, but not at peace either. Provocations can continue for years to come. It’s Russia that attacked Ukraine and provokes EU Member States. Not the other way round. To protect peace we’re working on defence readiness: materially, institutionally, politically.

Sweden’s support for Ukraine is unwavering and truly impressive. 🇸🇪 support for 🇺🇦 defence amounts to €10 bln in total since the start of the war. This level of support would amount to €450 bln for the entire EU. #MissileTour #ProtectWhatMatters

Since the Russian invasion we 🇪🇺 have supported Ukraine with €50bn in military aid alone. That's a lot – but annually it's less than 0.1% of our GDP. We can and must do more. The White Paper sends a very clear signal: Ukraine's defence is an integral part of European defence.
