She is why we will continue to fight for Lebanon. Her and her family are why the Lebanese spirit will never die, because no matter how long you’ve been out of the country their spirit remains Maronite Lebanese. I may not have been born into a Maronite family, but my blood is Maronite and I will die a Maronite. Every time MP Camille Chamoun sits down for an interview, I imagine half the political elite glued to their TVs, waiting to find out whose week he’s about to ruin. He has a habit of saying what so many others won’t say out loud. And unlike many in Lebanese politics, his words aren’t just for show. The story of Lebanese Jews is not spoken about enough. Many Jews found refuge in Lebanon after fleeing their home countries for fear of persecution. Like the Armenians, the Jewish community contributed to society bringing culture and civilization. There was prosperity and true co-existence. Then the 6-Day war and the Palestinians (who came to Lebanon after trying to overthrow the Jordanian monarchy) obtained arms turning them on the Lebanese which led to the “civil war”. The "civil war" didn't just trigger Lebanon's downfall it also led to one of the country's communities leaving. For those advocating co-existence among the faiths and shaming Christians who are protecting their community by any means necessary, where is your mentioning of the Lebanese Jews in your vision of "co-existence"?
