Earlier this month, we received a report of a driver allegedly brake-checking another vehicle, stopping traffic on 6th Avenue, and then getting out of her Bronco to confront the other driver. Fortunately, the victim remained calm, safely left the area, and provided our Lakewood Police agents with dash-camera footage of the incident. Our agents investigated, identified the driver of the Bronco, and took her into custody. This is a good reminder that everyone on the road is simply trying to get where they are going. Mistakes happen, and frustrations can build, but a moment of anger is never worth putting yourself or others at risk. Take a breath, keep moving, and arrive at your destination without adding an unexpected stop at the Lakewood Police Department. We appreciate the victim for reporting the incident and providing the evidence that helped our agents move the case forward.

Our agents recently took two dangerous suspects into custody following a high stakes encounter that began with a carjacked vehicle out of Denver. On March 23 agents spotted the stolen car near West Teller Street and West Colfax Avenue and immediately coordinated a response. With the vital assistance of Colorado State Patrol, the suspect vehicle was successfully intercepted as it turned south on Kipling Street. You can see in the video how the specialized grappling equipment effectively tethered the car even as the driver attempted to rev the engine and escape. The situation escalated when a passenger discarded a firearm and the driver attempted to flee on foot across Kipling Street. Our agents pursued and apprehended the driver who was found with a loaded stolen handgun and several packages of powdered fentanyl in his possession. Both individuals now face a long list of charges including motor vehicle theft and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. We are proud of the quick thinking and seamless teamwork displayed by our agents and state partners to remove these weapons and drugs from our community. Great job by everyone involved in safely resolving this incident.

What began as a call for a verbal disturbance at a cell phone repair shop on W. Colfax quickly escalated into the removal of an illegal, high-capacity machine gun from our streets. Lakewood Agents responded to reports of a man harassing employees after being told his phone could not be repaired. Despite multiple requests to leave, the individual continued to cause a disturbance and eventually returned to the property after being escorted out. After placing the suspect under arrest for trespassing, Agents observed a handgun in plain sight inside his vehicle. Upon further inspection, the weapon was found to be equipped with a 33-round, high-capacity magazine and a 3-D printed “Glock Switch” (Auto Sear). A "switch" is a small device that converts a standard semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic machine gun. These illegal modifications are incredibly dangerous to the public and our agents. In addition to the illegal weapon, the suspect was also found to have an active felony warrant from another metro jurisdiction. He is now facing multiple charges, including Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine, 2nd Degree Trespass, and Disorderly Conduct. This is a prime example of how our Agents' diligence during "ordinary" calls keeps Lakewood safe. We are proud to get this individual, and this dangerous weapon, off the streets.

Bad decisions don't keep office hours. A DUI is just as possible at 2 PM as it is at 2 AM. In this case, just before 6:00 A.M. We received multiple calls of a driver going in the wrong direction and causing a crash on 6th Ave. Upon talking to the wrong way driver, our Agents immediately suspected that alcohol was involved. The driver believed he was on I-25 at 104th, a far cry from Lakewood. He was arrested and it was found that the driver had already been convicted of DUI four times. Thankfully no major injuries were reported, but this situation could’ve been a lot worse. A DUI doesn't care what time it is. Neither does the law.

Our Agents recently headed out to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle—and the results highlight exactly why we always encourage you to "See Something, Say Something." What started as a call about people opening mailboxes led to a significant bust. The vehicle involved was an unreported stolen rental, and inside, Agents found a mountain of mail and packages stolen from victims across the metro area. The best way to help protect yourself against mail theft is to pick up your mail daily Try not to leave it sitting overnight. Use informed delivery from USPS, that way you know what’s coming so you know if it’s missing. And as always, report suspicious activity. If you see something, say something.

On the morning of January 11, 2026, Lakewood Police agents heading to an active call discovered a potentially life-threatening situation at the intersection of Wadsworth and Alameda. Agents found a truck stopped in the roadway with the driver asleep at the wheel. While the driver’s foot remained on the brake, the risk of the vehicle rolling into cross-traffic or a pedestrian was extreme. Upon further investigation, the driver was arrested for DUI. This marks the individual's second DUI offense. Driving under the influence isn't just a personal choice; it is a direct threat to everyone sharing the road. Falling asleep at a controlled intersection is a clear sign of severe impairment that could have easily resulted in a fatal collision. Our Agents are committed to arresting impaired drivers on our streets to ensure you and your family get home safely. Please, if you plan on drinking, plan for a sober ride home.

You know the ol’ adage “caught with your pants down?” Somebody should’ve told this burglary suspect who was arrested by Lakewood Police Agents early this morning. When a verified burglary alarm went off, Agents quickly got to the scene and utilized a drone to look for a suspect. While we see a lot of things in the line of doody, we had no clue what awaited us this time! The suspect was taken to jail (after pulling his pants up) and is being held on 2nd degree burglary charges. Overall great teamwork by our Patrol and Drone Teams.
