On 9/29/25, Stephen Federico, father of murdered 22-yr-old Logan Federico, gave an emotional statement to a House committee, condemning "soft on crime" policies that freed his daughter’s killer. He described how Alexander Davante Dickey killed Logan, shooting her after dragging her from bed. Federico demanded accountability from prosecutors & judges, saying those who kept Dickey free should be jailed. His remarks came amid debates on sentencing reform & pretrial release. Logan, from Waxhaw, NC, was visiting USC in Columbia on 5/3/25 when Dickey, 30, broke in, shot her, stole her credit cards, & went on a spending spree. She died instantly. Dickey, with 39 arrests & 25 felony charges (burglary, robbery, weapons), had convictions since 2014 but faced lenient sentencing due to recordkeeping errors. SC’s Law Enforcement Div. admitted missing fingerprints, leading to underestimated criminal history. Dickey, despite multiple felonies & probation violations, served little prison time, last released in 2024 by Lexington Co. Magistrate Arthur Myers on $1,000 bond for a driving offense.
