Here the timelapse; realism to me is primarily about patience, since you don't have to think about stylizing a reference or any other sort of shape design. I try to build a good foundation to paint, and then chip away at the rest

Here the "trust the process" timelapse, basically, sketch -> brush in colour variety -> big to small loose strokes for texturing. Then pray it starts to look good eventually

Here one of the timelapses, for speed, I tend to use the lasso tool to block in shapes. Seperate layers for fore/mid/background, or whatever else I think is important. Then I also individually lock them, so I can do colour shifts/accents without painting over the entire image.

This timelapse had a similiar process with painting in colour shifts to start with, though my main focus here was to preserve the lighting mood, so, I didn't go in to detail and mess with colours too much.

I really wanted to push the reference's (in comments) lighting mood, by planning out a more pronounced colour contrast. Pushing for saturated tones around the terminator line (the bright orange strip) and keeping the rest of the values on the left side more closely together

Main difference between this one and the other timelapses I've shared is mostly using a much smaller brush size and spending more time. Also clip studio's Lens Blur to mimic camera blur on the edges

Here the timelapse - I like practising with the square brush because it has no pressure or opacity variety, aka I'm forced to just focus on shapes/light/shadow. I also always work big - medium - small, both for efficiency and structure
