Brexit was sold as a chance to do better for British farming. The reality has been a difficult transition with mixed results at best. We need long-term, stable support that works for food production and the environment, not more spin. Back British farmers properly.

If patriotism means doing what is in the long-term national interest, not just waving the flag, then Britain should seek the closest possible relationship with the EU. It’s not the behaviour of someone putting country or party first at a moment of crisis. It risks making the exit even messier and further damaging Labour’s reputation. The country needs a clean, orderly transition. Andy Burnham has the mandate from Makerfield to deliver real change. No more drama. Time to move forward for the country.

🚨 ✅ Bridget Phillipson make a good point on Andy Burnham (responding to McSweeney’s claim Labour wasn’t ready to govern after 4 years): “Andy Burnham has been in Cabinet previously. He’s held a number of roles. He’s been an MP before. He actually has more experience of governing than many of us did when we entered government for the very first time as ministers in 2024.” Unlike Andy Burnham, who has real Cabinet and parliamentary experience, neither Starmer nor McSweeney had ever held office while Labour were in power. Starmer then sacked Sue Gray, the one senior figure who actually knew how government worked and their attempt to rule with iron fist failed spectacularly. The inexperience at the top has been glaring.

🚨 ALASTAIR CAMPBELL on Bloomberg with Jacob Rees-Mogg cuts through the noise: A rejoin referendum likely won’t happen anytime soon because while Nigel Farage and Reform remain influential, the EU simply won’t have us back. “While we’ve got the prospect of people like Jacob getting into bed with people like Nigel Farage… the EU’s not going to think about having us back.” Brutal but accurate. Farage’s chaos is the biggest barrier to fixing Brexit. Brexit broke British politics. Fixing it means moving past the Farage era.
